1. Start a new day, I can answer that question but not the other one
Remember when you set that clock at the begging of thew game? Thats the game time in the game so if you set it for your real time when you wake up that is the next day
A new day starts every "real" day. In the beginning of the game when you set the time, it is like real time, so you just have to wait. But, if you have the glitch that some of the Ruby games have then you will not be able to start a new day unless you get a leaf green and fix the glitch. I also am not sure if you can get a ditto in this game.
The answers above already mentioned the real time deal, so I'll just answer the other...
You can't catch Ditto on this game, however, you can get it via trading from FireRed, Leaf Green or Emerald.
If you set your clock to the real time then it should correspond to real days. Go to sleep, wake up and go back to the Dept. Store.
You can only get Ditto from trading between FR/LG/E.
In real life wait one day and then come back, unless your game cartridge is dry. Dittos can be found in a cave in the desert area
After you defeat the Elite Four and have the National Dex.
Warning: The answer about Ditto has only been tested in Emerald
