First off what does your gyrados know and the moves I think it should know is.
Waterfall
Dragonrage
Surf
Dragondance
Or,
I believe you can teach it hypnosis or confuseray I don't know.
Crunch
Twister
Hyper beam

My gyarados got Surf,thunderbolt,ice beam and earthquake and I think it works great

Since gyrados is a water and flying type Pokemon, I would recommend teaching it a combination of water and flying type moves for advantages against grass type.

1.Earthquake/Dig.Puts out electric types who are dubble super effective on gyrados
2.Hydropump.
3.Flamethrower.for grass types.
4.ice beam/thunderbolt.for dragons or water types.
