The golden caterpie was a shiny pokemon. Shiny Pokemon are extreamly rare. Theres a 1/10000 chance of finding one so I hope you caught it. The caterpie will stay golden even if it evolvs so don't worry. If you didnt catch it then good luck trying to get it again.

How come my shiny Caterpie evolved into meta-pod but it didn’t learn harden
digireaper answered:

The gold caterpie is a shiny Pokemon which is basicly a different colored Pokemon it can happen to any wild Pokemon and is very rare.
And yes when it evolves it will be a different color but not gold.

annefranman52 answered:

You have a shiny Pokemon. They are very rare, but don't have any different qualities - just a glitch really. They look pretty cool, so they're good... It's just a shame it was a Caterpie. If you Evolve it, it should still be discoloured.

mini_mario answered:

Yes it will still stay golden

kscott23 answered:

Ice warrior you may be correct in your percentage, but I heard it was more like 1 in 5.8k.... Lol still unbelieveably rare the only discolored Pokemon I've ever had was the red garados in gold version lol
