Pokeballs Work on Any Pokemon

Did you know that Pokeballs can catch any Pokemon? I, for some reason started catching any Pokemon I could find with plain regular Pokeballs. I first managed to catch both Snorlax then Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres, and finally Mewtwo with regular Pokeballs. Mewtwo took between 30 to 60 minutes but then fell to the Pokeball. My point is, Ultraballs can be too expensive at times of money crisis since 6 Pokeballs can be bought for the same price as 1 Ultraball.
