Infected Pokemon that won't faint!!!!

I tried this before when my altaria used perish song it said that all infected pokemon will faint in 3 moves, I used my Altaria until it said your Pokemon will faint in 1 move thats when I switched it out with my other Pokemon when the my foe's Pokemon fainted I checked my altaria it didn't faint.
