While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game Skate or Die:
Tour de Thrash, a game whose title is obviously a skateboarder play-on-words of
the Tour de France. Of course, that's biking, and this is basic skateboarding.

Yeah, I don't have much to say about this. But try to enjoy.

------
Basics
------

There are two modes which you can play: one-person solo, or versus an AI
player. Either way, the game is the same; you just get bumped around more in
the latter.

You'll go across eight tracks. Each one is the same in concept - a randomized
set of barriers will come out at you over a set distance. You must cross the
set distance in as little time as possible, which also means avoiding the
barriers, or going off-track.

To avoid the barriers, you first must learn the three types. The center ones
are the ones that it is preferred you jump over; for the other two, the ones
taking up half of the pipe, you must get out of their way. Sometimes, you'll
find a combo of the center and side ones; basically, you can only jump over
the right/left half. Those start in Chernobyl.

Additionally, the track is not straight. It turns, and the character you
control is made of matter - that is to say, HE HAS MOMENTUM. You must account
for this inertia by turning into the curve - if it goes left, use Left on the
D-Pad, and vice versa. Otherwise, your momentum will cause you to fly out of
the pipe and lose time.

At the top of the screen are three numbers - time remaining, speed setting, and
distance remaining. You must zero-out the distance before time runs out. To do
so, you want to increase your speed by using Up on the D-Pad. However, don't go
too fast or momentum will overpower you; stay with you are comfortable with.

After the end, you'll get a password for the next level.

In the versus mode, it is the same thing, but you just get bumped around by the
AI a lot.

One final thing - at random points, often after barriers, you can find reddish
stars. These will give you ten extra seconds on the clock.

---------
Some Tips
---------

Jumping seems to void all horizontal motion, so if you're about to run into a
wall due to diagonal momentum, jump.

The distance required to clear a jump increases as you speed up. You'll learn
this, and maintaining a constant speed will prevent crashes.

Don't worry about the star time boosts. The most demanding stage is Atlantis,
where you need to do one distance unit every 1.8 seconds, which max speed will
do you okay on.

ALWAYS lean into the turn. I cannot stress that enough; often, you'll fly into
a barrier if you don't.

And practice makes perfect. I went through every course on my first or second
try with no problems at all.

-----------
Course Data
-----------

This assumes that one crash takes up approximately 4 seconds. It also assumes
that your maximum speeds average out at about 1.5 seconds to travel one unit of
distance. It also assumes you do not grab any time power-ups.

These are not meant to be used as EXACT guides; personally, the less crashes
the better. Remember, I am assuming your speed will not vary from 1 unit every
1.5 seconds, where it WILL going around turns. For best results, subtract three
or four from the fourth column to be safe.

Here, you'll find yourself on a half-pipe. The goal is to get as many points as
possible by doing tricks.

Unfortunately, it is unclear as to how you do them. I usually mash A and B and
hold either Left or Right on the D-Pad. I'll usually do some form of trick.
Some obviously seem to take longer than others, or I don't know how to complete
them. It is likely the former, since the tricks don't really get affected
during their execution.

So, in short, the tricks are randomized. As you approach a ramp or the top of
the pipe, you can do a trick by holding Left or Right on the D-Pad. If you
succeed, you get points. If you fail to execute the trick, you lose one of your
four "lives". If you lose them all, or run out of time, the game ends and you
may get to put in your high score.
