While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

                          [email protected]

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the Japan GameBoy game Pocket
Golf. Much as you would expect, this another one of your typical video games
based on the world-popular sport of golf.

...

That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy.

Please note that this FAQ is written from the Japanese version of the game, and
thusly the translations are for such. The order is usually fairly accurate in
the listings, though.

Also, major credit for the translations go to Devin Morgan!

Main Menu/Title Screen:
```````````````````````
After the title screen, there are two options:
 - 1 Player Mode: Play alone.
 - 2 Player Mode: Play with another player. Presumably requires the use of a
                  GameBoy Link Cable, as you can't do it with just one GameBoy.
After choosing 1 Player Mode, you'll get two options:
 - Victory without Battle: A tentative translation. From the context of the
                           other mode, I would assume this is moreso just your
                           basic exhibition match against a single AI.
 - Tournament: A series of holes are played with scoring much like in typical
               real-world golf. Uses multiple AI's over the single one like in
               the previously-mentioned mode.
If you go to the Tournament mode, you'll proceed straight into the golf game.
If you choose the other mode, you'll have two options: New Game, and Load Game
with a password.
When the hole appears on-screen, you'll get some general info about it. This
namely includes par, hole number, and distance from the tee to the hole. Soon,
a message box will appear detailing your shot number and the distance to the
hole. Press the A Button to continue.
At the right, you'll see the wind direction, the club you're using, and the lay
of the ball. You can use different clubs by pressing the B Button, then using
Left/Right on the D-Pad. (Various club stats are in the chart above.) The game
will usually optimize the club for you, but in case you don't like the wind
direction or something, there you go.
Outside of that menu, you can use the D-Pad's Left/Right Buttons to rotate the
cursor and thereby adjust your trajectory. Press the A Button to confirm this,
then the power/accuracy meters will appear. Press the A Button to start the
left meter - which determines power - going up. The more that is filled, the
further the shot will go. After you reach a desired level, press the A Button
again. The right gauge will empty out. This will determine the hook/spin on
the shot. There is an implied baseline you want to stop the gauge on (with the
A Button) halfway down the power gauge - below it, and the ball will angle to
the right; above it, and the ball will angle left.
This process will generally loop throughout the holes. In Victory without
Battle mode, you'll only shoot when your ball is the furthest from the hole;
otherwise, you have free reign. Between each of the eighteen holes, you'll
get the various standings on the mode. The game usually ends when all holes
have been played.
===============
Scoring Details
===============
Each given hole will have a set "par" on it. The par is the number of shots it
ideally takes to finish a hole. If you go under this, you earn points (your
score is negative, but that's good), and if you go over, you lose points (you
gain positive points). Hitting exactly par neither hurts or helps you.
The number of shots you take can also be affected by two other things - water
hazards and out-of-bounds area. Both are considered out-of-bounds. This bad
shot will count against you, and you'll be penalized an additional shot. For
example, if you hit the water on your first shot, consider the next shot you
take your third and not the second.
At the end of the hole, the number of shots you take, minus the par, is your
score. If such is positive, you went over (bogey); if negative, you did good by
going under (birdie, eagle, albatross). And, of course, par is neither good or
bad.
For the purposes of this game, you'll be using basic stroke play rules. That is
to say, whoever has the better score at the end of eighteen holes wins. The
only reason I mention this is that some use a win-loss basis rather than an
overall score, and this is just to remove confusion.
To the curious, the relatively official names for various shots:
                     O----------------O-----------------O
                     |  Name of Shot  |  Score Changes  |
                     |  Eagle         |        -2       |
                     |  Birdie        |        -1       |
