While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game Jack Nicklaus
Golf, one of your typical golf games centered around the famed golfer Jack
Nicklaus. It was created in 1991 for Nintendo's Gameboy by Accolade.

...

That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy.

Please note that this FAQ is written from the French version of the game, and
thusly the translations are for such. The order is usually fairly accurate in
the listings, so if you have a game in a different language, you can just go by
order.

========
Controls
========

 ~ D-Pad        : Move cursors
 ~ A Button : Confirm decisions; proceed during the game
 ~ B Button : N/A (barring "Pressez un bouton" ("Press any button") areas)
 ~ Start Button : Proceed at points in menus; pause gameplay and opt to quit
 ~ Select Button: Open options menu in game

===============
Before the Game
===============

Main Menu/Title Screen:
```````````````````````
As the title screen featuring the game logo and the picture of Jack Nicklaus
appears with the copyright notice, press the Start Button to proceed.
At the main menu, you'll have two options:
 - Nouveau Jeu   : Start a new game.
 - Jeu Sauvegarde: Start an old game via the use of a password.
For the purposes of this FAQ, we shall assume you chose the first option.
After this, you get to choose one of four courses - Jack's Greatest, Castle
Pines, Desert Mountain, and Muirfield Village. Each course is a different set
of 18 holes of golf. Choose whichever you prefer.
Game Modes:
```````````
At the next screen, you'll have to choose between Skins and Stroke Play, and
the number of players (joueurs). The screen layout is below.

             Skins:                        Stroke Play:

             [] 2 joueurs (2 players)      [] 1 joueur (1 player)
             [] 3 joueurs (3 players)      [] 2 joueurs (2 players)
             [] 4 joueurs (4 players)      [] 3 joueurs (3 players)
                                           [] 4 joueurs (4 players)

From what I can understand, the modes differ as such: Skins is based on
having better scores on holes than your opponent, like Match Play. It will
disregard whether you have less strokes overall, just how many times you've
won on a hole. Stroke Play, however, is based upon total strokes across the
eighteen holes. For example, if you take 67 strokes and everyone else takes
69, 70, and 583, you win, because you used less strokes and therefore had the
better overall score.

You can use the D-Pad to go amongst the boxes ([] on the diagram above) and
the A Button to choose.

Player Customization:
`````````````````````
Next, after selecting a game mode, you'll fill out the data on each person.
Here is a psuedo-translated version of the menu:
                   Player ##  [] Male     [] Female
                   Name       [________________________]
                   Difficulty [] Beginner [] Expert
                   Tee        [] Front    [] Normal  [] Back
                   Narrator               [] Yes     [] No
At the top, you will see the player number you're customizing. Feel free to
give said person a gender by filling in one of the boxes. You can also press
the A Button on the Name (Nom in French) box to see a keypad to make a name.
Difficulty is just that - how hard it is.
The details on tees are a bit more complicated. For basic purposes, the first
option allows for easier topspin, which allows more distance but less stopping
ability. The third option allows for easier backspin, which lowers distances
but promotes accuracy. The second option is the recommended one, as it is a
decent balance of the two.
Finally, the option for what I assume is the narrator is completely optional.
Press the Start Button to proceed.
Almost There...:
````````````````
You'll then have several more options...

 - Jouer Une Partie: Play the whole course, start to finish.
 - Trou a Pratiquer: Play a chosen hole.
 - Coups Longs : Go to a driving range to practice shots.
 - Au Putting : Practice putting.
 - Autre Parcours : Change course.
 - Autre Joueur : Change game mode and player data.

================
Playing the Game
================

We'll assume you chose the option "Jouer Une Partie", which will make you play
the whole course. Other modes' data can be derived from the content here. Feel
free to press the A Button to proceed through the initial conversational stuff.

During a hole, feel free to press the Start Button. This will bring up a menu
asking you if you wish to quit - the A Button is "Yes", the B Button is "No".

Additionally, during the course of a hole, press the Select Button for some
other options:

 - Vue Aerienne : View the course map.
 - Les Scores : See the scores thus far.
 - Statistiques : See some shot statistics for the game thus far.
 - Conditions : Set the weather (B) and wind force (Up/Down).
 - Carte de Clubs: See the list of club stats.
 - Rejouer       : Retire?
 - Mulligan      : Call a mulligan?
 - Sortir : Return to game.

When you begin a hole, you will see an amount of data of it, including the hole
number (Trou #), distance to the hole kinda-sorta based on tee type, and the
par. You can also navigate the map with the D-Pad. Press the A Button to
continue.

At the next section, you'll see more data at the bottom. This includes the
player number (Joueur), club type, club max distance, stroke number (Coup),
par (baseline shot level for scoring), and the wind speed and direction is in
the bottom-left.

Use Up and Down on the D-Pad to choose your club type, as per the following
details. To the curious, a yard is somewhere around 0.91 meters. You can also
use the D-Pad to move the trajectory cursor (topmost gray dot) left and right
to choose the direction in which to aim. The flag marker shows the direction
of the hole.

  O---------------------------O---------------------O-----------------------O

You can press the A Button to begin your swing. The meter at the left side of
the screen will fill up to represent your shot power. The first time you go up
the meter, it is for shot power - the topmost bold black line represents the
100% power rating as per the above. When it is as desired, press the A Button.
Then it'll go down. If you are early in pressing the A Button for the bottom
bold black line, the ball will go left; late, it'll go right. If you end up
failing to set a power or the hook/slice measure, you'll take no shot but it
will still count against.

This proceeds like such up to the green where you are forced to putt, which is
basically shooting, but your distances are in feet (unit is "P") and you have
no real influence from the wind. You will get the scores after the ball gets
into the hole, and then loop throughout the holes in such a manner.

===============
Scoring Details
===============

Each given hole will have a set "par" on it. The par is the number of shots it
ideally takes to finish a hole. If you go under this, you earn points (your
score is negative, but that's good), and if you go over, you lose points (you
gain positive points). Hitting exactly par neither hurts or helps you.

The number of shots you take can also be affected by two other things - water
hazards and out-of-bounds area. Both are considered out-of-bounds. This bad
shot will count against you, and you'll be penalized an additional shot. For
example, if you hit the water on your first shot, consider the next shot you
take your third and not the second.

At the end of the hole, the number of shots you take, minus the par, is your
score. If such is positive, you went over (bogey); if negative, you did good by
going under (birdie, eagle, albatross). And, of course, par is neither good or
bad.

In Match Play, your record is based on the number of "wins" per hole. If you
have the best score of the participants, that is one win and there's nothing
else to it. This can mean that someone did three shots better than you, but you
still won more holes overall and are still the winner.

In Stroke Play, your score is based off the number of strokes you took total
across all 18 holes of golf. Therefore, it won't matter if you're beaten on ten
holes if you took 70 strokes and your opponent took 72 - you still won.

To the curious, the relatively official names for various shots:

                     O----------------O-----------------O
                     | Name of Shot | Score Changes |
