One of the most famous is his quest to rescue his father from the Nazis and recover the holiest of holies: the Holy Grail, Jesus Christ's cup from the last supper. In this quest he travels to Italy, Germany, and the ancient city of Alexandretta all while fighting off Adolf Hitler's minions of evil and romancing a double-crossing (and quite hot) Austrian doctor. This version of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was released on the Game Boy in 1993. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.1 About the Guide ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's your basic text-only walkthrough, and luckily for you the game is rather short, which means this is a short walkthrough. To find a specific word in the guide, preferably by referencing the table of contents at the top, hold Ctrl and press F on your keyboard. That will open a Find screen that you can use to find the word you're looking for. =============================================================================== ===== 2.0 BASICS ============================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 Game Start ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Start Game ============ Select this to begin the game. Avoid the first falling spikes (a platform game classic), and grab the torch. From there you can make your way down to the bottom level using the ropes, and remember to duck under the goon's knives when you pass by him. He's out of reach, so don't bother trying to attack him. Once at the bottom head to the right. Duck under the guy's bullets and get close enough to punch him a couple of times. If you need health you can climb the short rope up to the rafters to pick up a heart. Beyond this you'll come across two more guys and your first hourglass, which resets your time. At the end of the path will find a stretch of water which for some reason hurts Indy. Jump and grab the ropes to cross over the water, but watch for falling spikes. You'll need to move down a bit to make the jump from one rope to the next. After this you'll find the end of the path and several ropes leading up to the top. From there you must turn left or right. If you would like some time and health powerups you can go to the right, however if you're confident that you have enough of both then you can make your way to the left. Watch for those two guys on the ropes and get on the path. Here you'll face more goons and find more powerups, but nothing new. Don't worry if the torch goes out while walking; there's a torch just below this level, after you pass a knife thrower. From that torch you must continue to the right until you see two ropes. Grab the heart on the platform between them then climb down, where you must walk to the left again. Walk and fight your way through. You'll pass some small platforms and climb over a mound of stones, but don't stop until you reach a solid wall and a long rope leading up. Climb up and then climb a few feet up the next rope. On this lone rope you'll face a climber moving up and down. Wait for him to come down, then follow him up until you have enough space to jump to the next platform on the left. Jump onto it and wait for the climber to descend then jump across the rope to the entrance on the right. Follow this path (and collect the torch and hourglass along the way) until you have to climb down a rope on your left. Here you'll find the glowing Cross of Coronado, an item that is required to advance to the boss of the level. After grabbing the cross you'll need to drop to the ground and walk along the same ground to the left until you reach that rope with the climber. Follow him up just like before but continue up the rope on the left this time. From there climb the rope on the right and enter the tunnel to move on to the boss. Boss: Man with 2x4 The guy wielding the 2x4 may seem tough, but his simplistic attacks are easy to avoid. First, his swings are slow and can easily be avoided by staying away when he gets ready to swing. The spikes he drops from the ceiling always fall in the same spot, so those aren't a problem either. To defeat this guy, wait for him to swing his weapon then approach and punch him. Back away and return to the left before he gets another chance to swing, then repeat the attack. It will take about 15 hits to defeat him but don't dawdle or you'll run out of time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.2 Escaping on the Train ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Required Item: None This one is as straight forward as they come. Proceed to the right while jumping between cars, jumping over rhino horns and giraffe heads, and killing goons. The gun goons are as simple as they were in the caves, but the knife throwers can duck which may put you at a disadvantage if you like to duck and wait. Get as close as possible when you see a knife thrower and duck to punch him, but don't sit still too long or they'll hit you. You should also pick up the whip along the way. Continue along until you reach the final car. Boss: Big Native with Arrows Whip out the whip and prepare for a more an easy battle. First of all, this guy's arrows inflict much more damage than the last boss, so avoid them at all costs. Next position yourself in the gap to the left of the native. You can duck down on the right side of that gap and whip away for massive damage, but when you see him duck down you'll need to jump onto the raised platforms to jump over his arrow. Continue whipping and jumping over the low arrows to easily defeat the guy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.3 Entering the Catacombs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Required Item: 4 Pieces of a Tablet, Cross Shield Head to the right and jump over all the gaps. You'll also want to avoid the drops of sludge from the ceiling. Eventually you'll find a rope leading down into the depths of the catacombs; Climb down the rope and jump out to the right when you see a platform appear. Grab the glowing item to get the first piece of the tablet. Continue down and grab the heart near the rope if you need it, then head left. Walk along the path and avoid the drops, and stop at every gap to make sure there isn't an obstacle on the other side that is going to knock you down into a hole. You can kill the rats by ducking and punching them, if you want to be cruel about it. You'll find the second piece of the tablet on a ledge at the end of this path. Down the rope to the third level, hoorah! Pick up the heart and walk along to the right. The sludge drops get more frequent in this area so watch your step. You'll also face pits full of bones... man, those old school guys sure were a macabre bunch. If you see your time ticking dangerously low don't worry about it. There is an hourglass on this level just past the first bone pit. Get to the rope at the end and climb down then turn left over the bones. A few more rats, a whip, and a rope later you'll be down on the fourth level. Kill the gun-toting shriner and then grab that heart on the left before you continue. After facing another shriner you'll find a rope. Jump past the rope to find the third piece of the tablet. Down the rope and to the left you'll find another shriner and the second hourglass in this level. Climb down the next rope and jump to the left to find the final tablet piece tucked away in a corner below a rock overhang. Head down and to the right from there to find oil pools and burning rats. Avoid both types of obstacles and get to the ropes at the end. You'll have to climb the ropes and make your way to the left to find the Cross Shield. After that simply punch the wall protecting the knight's tomb to proceed to the boss. Boss: Fire Breather This fat guy's not a problem. Wait on the left and jump over the fireball when he blows it out, then whip him two or three times and return to the left. Repeat that incredibly simple attack pattern to defeat him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.4 Assault on Castle Brunwald ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Required Item: 4 Pieces of a Diary Proceed to the right from one platform to the next. You'll want that whip along the way, of course. Climb the ladders to find your first Nazi. These guys move and attack just like previous gun enemies, however their bullets inflict more damage than previous versions. To avoid getting hit you should try and pounce on these guys when their backs are turned, so you can punch away without the risk of injury. Walk to the left and make a long jump to the next rope. From there you can climb up a bit to find a platform with a Nazi and the first piece of the diary. Return to the long rope and climb to the top where the open door is. Use your whip to grab the wood on the right and whip across the gap. Kill this Nazi quickly and jump up to a small platform on the right to find the second piece of the diary. Jump onto a small higher platform on the left and then follow this path as it ascends to the right. At the end of this path you'll find the third piece of the diary on a lone platform to the left. Quickly return to the long platform just below a door and look for a wooden hook that you can whip on the left. Swing across the gap and kill the Nazi to find an hourglass. Climb up via the ladder on the left and kill yet another Nazi, and just past him you'll find the fourth and final piece of the diary. Continue up a ladder, through a few more Nazis, and across another gap to reach an open door in the top-right corner of the level. You're clear to finish the level by walking to the right. Boss: Giant Toy Nazi This guy might as well be a toy soldier because his attacks are regular and his movements are stiff as a board. Like the native back at the train this guy has a high shot and a low shot. You can duck under the high shot and attack while he shoots, then back up a little bit and jump over the low shot. Use the gun if you like for massive damage then finish him off with some whip action. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.5 Escape the Airship ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Required Item: Biplane Key Follow the path by climbing up one ladder and then halfway up the next ladder. The Nazis here are real tough and I suggest avoiding them altogether, so wait for him to walk to the left and then quickly climb up and get to the next ladder on the right. From that point simply follow the path and go up ladders until you see a ladder leading down to a lower level. Skip that ladder and proceed to the next one on the right that leads up. Wait on the ladder until the Nazi appears and turns left then quickly follow him all the way to the left where you'll find a key. Grab it and return to the ladder. Climb down and then climb down that other ladder that leads down to a lower level. Wait on the left and whip the Nazi to his doom then continue along up the ladders along the path. When you reach a long stretch of walkway wait for the Nazi to turn right and then follow him all the way to the next ladder. He'll walk far enough to give you time to climb down. Continue climbing down at this point and you'll reach what appears to be an eating hall with black walls and windows. Kill the Nazi with a few whips and walk to the left through more sets of ladders. You'll also find an hourglass and a gun between the short ladders. Below that will be a sitting area with black walls. Proceed to the right and climb up the long ladder to fight a few more Nazis. Make sure you head all the way to the right to find a Nazi and a gun powerup nearby. Head down more ladders from there to reach the biplane at the bottom of the airship. Boss: Plane Pilot Start by using all of your gun ammo to inflict the most damage, then get close for some more whip action. His attack pattern is just like nearly every other boss thus far, so jumping and ducking is the order of the day. The one note here is that his low bullets are higher than usual so you'll need to make sure to time your jumps to make the bullet pass under Indy just as he's at his highest point. After a relatively short battle the pilot will be dead and you'll be on your way to the final level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.6 The Three Trials ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Required Item: None The final level is in a cave near the ancient city of Alexandretta. But this isn't any old cave - it's the cave the houses the Holy Grail! Indy's goal is to get past three trials and prove he's worthy of the Grail. Walk along until you see a gap and a Nazi on the other side. You can't touch the Nazi without getting knocked into the pit, so wait for him to turn his back then jump onto the platform and get whippin'! Once he's dead you'll come across a platform with two circular blades slicing through it. Wait for the blades to be at the top or bottom before walking through. Keep jumping over gaps and whipping Nazis from a safe distance. You'll see some platforms spelling out IEHOVA ("God" in Hebrew) at one point. There's no puzzle here, but keep that word in mind for later. Simply walk across and keep going to the right. After more platforms, Nazis, and blades, you'll find another set of spelling platforms. This time you'll need to remember to only step on letters that spell out IEHOVA in that order. Continue along to the black abyss and then keep walking to find an invisible platform. Get past the final blade to complete the trials. Now you must make a choice. Which chalice was the one Jesus and his crew drank from at the last supper? The answer is the plain-looking cup, the "cup of a carpenter," second from the left. Make sure to choose the correct one or you'll be forced to start the game all over again! --- If you chose wisely you'll see the ending and the names of all the fine folks who developed the final version of the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade video game.
