While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game Hit the Ice,
one of the more unique sports games in that, for one, it's handheld, and, for
another, that it's on hockey. Except that it has no fouls, which, honestly, is
most of my fun in watching the game. :)

Yeah, I don't know much to say about this. But try to enjoy.

--------
Controls
--------

~~ D-Pad: - Move your player
          - Move menu cursors.

~~ A Button: - Pass the puck to a teammate.
             - Use special attack when not in possession of the puck.
             - Put Goalie in the Save position.
             - Make Goalie dive for the puck, when pressed with B Button.
             - Rapidly press to end a fight.

~~ B Button: - Shoot the puck.
             - Punch.
             - Put Goalie in the Save position.
             - Make the Goalie dive for the puck, when pressed with A Button.
             - Rapidly press to end a fight.
             - Hold the B Button for about six sections and, once the
player you're using flashing, release for a Super Shot.

~~ Start Button: - Pause the game.
                 - Confirm a selection.

~~ Select Button: - N/A.

~~ L/R Buttons: - These only have functions on the GBA SP and GameBoy Player
ways of playing the game. They will widen/narrow the screen,
                  respectively. Otherwise, N/A.

-----------------------------------
Playing the Game - Actually Playing
-----------------------------------

Again, the concept here is quite simple - so long as you know the controls, you
are pretty much golden.

On the defense, you want to attack your opponents with the A Button or B Button
to punch, slash, hammer, whatever, to make the opponents lose possession of the
puck (and a little blood, but it's a small cost). Should your opponents make it
to the goal, press the A or B Button to put the goalie in the Save position;
press both the A and B Buttons to dive for the puck.

Once you have the puck and are on the offense, you want to keep away from the
opponents as much as possible. Passing (the A Button) will help you out with
this. Eventually, once you get to the goal, take a shot (the B Button) and hope
it makes it in.

When playing an actual game, it is divided into three periods, each lasting
five minutes. You'll get to see the score between them.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll be able to see your scoreboard and vitals:

-- The top-left number is your score.

-- The bottom-left gauge is your fight meter. Should it empty, a fight will
break out. Rapidly press the A and B Buttons to stop it.

-- The top-central number is the period number; there are three in all.

-- The bottom-central number is a timer for the time left in the period; it
   goes down from five minutes.

-- The top-right number is your opponent's score.

-- The bottom-right number is your opponent's fight meter.

-------------------------------
Playing the Game - Championship
-------------------------------

Champsionship is a pretty simple concept. Like a typical tournament, you'll be
playing against lower-skilled teams as you proceed to the higher-ranked ones.
Your team is creatively named the Reds; you'll go against the Blues, Greens,
Yellows, and Blacks in that order.

Each hockey game will be fifteen minutes long, split into three five-minute
periods. The match will begin with a face-off. Your goal is to get possession
of the puck and shoot it into the goal of the opposite team, while also
stopping your opponents from doing the same.

You'll see the current score between each of the periods, with the final score
being seen at the end. If you win, you can press Start to go on to the next
team. Sadly, this also means that this game can only last up to an hour for
good players.

---------------------------
Playing the Game - VS. Play
---------------------------

This is an exhibition game, in essence. Like with the championship, you'll play
a game with three five-minute periods, and you're still the Reds.

However, you only get to play against the Blues, the easiest team in the league
of this fictional world. Therefore, the main purpose for this mode is either an
exhibition game or practicing with the various game characters.

----------------------------
Playing the Game - Shot Race
----------------------------

After starting this, opt to play a game to 3, 6, 9, or 12 points.

The goal of this is to basically try to make a goal. Whether you succeed or
fail, play passes to the opponent.

-----------
The Players
-----------

This section will detail the players and give descriptions as per the game's
manual. Just by reading this, you can truly understand the meaning of the
phrase "no limits".

-- Phil Bunger: "When Phil attacks, he swings two punches at an opponent, then
hits him in the head with his stick."

-- Ivan Yakashev: "Although he is rather mild-tempered, Ivan can get wound up.
Then he'll punch his opponent in the face."

-- "Battleship" Boyd: "The jump kick is an unusual and very difficult maneuver
in skates, but Battleship has mastered it."

-- Johnny Novak: "Johnny is very quick with his stick and will not hesitate to
smash an opponent in the shoulder if possible."

-- Reggie Marsh: "Reggie likes a little drama, so he goes into a big spin
before landing his stick against an opponent's head."

-- Al Gigliano: "With surprising grace, Al leaps into the air and then hammers
his stick onto the opponent's collar bone."

-- "Dicky" Fontaine: "When you push A, Dicky will deliver swift kicks, using
his skate blades, against an opponent's shins."

-- Bo Cleveland: "Bo doesn't like to waste time. He just slams his stick into
                  an opponent's stomach."

I have to say ... Fontaine is my favorite. :)
