1.) Introduction
===================

Howdy and welcome to my Walkthrough for Dragon Warrior I for the Gameboy Color
Handheld System. This walkthrough is specifically for Dragon Warrior I from
the Dragon Warrior I and II cartridge, meaning you won't find any walkthrough
information about Dragon Warrior II in here, just information on Dragon
Warrior I.

Dragon Warrior was a game that was released for the NES way back in 1986 in
Japan, and 1990 in the States. This game was a huge hit, and if you
subscribed to Nintendo Power back then, you'd get a free copy of the game.
This is pretty much how it became a huge success, and one of the first few
RPGs to hit the United States. To many, this game completely revolutionized
RPGs as we know them today, from the standard turn based battle system.

This game had everything gamers wanted back then; a character to play as that
travels to other cities in a fantasy world that was just engrossing back then
to play. This will certainly be a Nostalgia trip for those that loved the
original Dragon Warrior game.

Watch the little opening cinematic involving a Dragon taking away a sphere and
the Princess from the castle. Once the game begins, you'll be in front of
the King. He'll describe the situation. The King will then tell you to open
the chests, containing 120G, a Torch, and a Key. Head down to the door and
Push A to open it with the Key you just got. A key disappears once you use
it, so you can't open any more doors for awhile. Go down the stairs here.

Talk with all the Soldiers to learn about the situation, and then head for
the fountain and go east to find a Solider crying over the abduction. Check
the pots near him for an Herb. Go back up to the Throne room to save your
game. Now head back down the stairs, and exit the castle.

Head east to find your next destination, the Town of Tantegal.

Explore the town for a bit and talk with the commonfolk. If you fought a few
battles outside and need to heal up, there's an Inn to the south. Check the
Dresser in here to find a Warp Wing. Exit the inn and go North to find the
Weapons and Armor shop. A Club and Clothes should do you good for now. Now
exit the Weapon/Armor shop and head southeast to find the Item shop. There's
nothing else to do here, so exit the town.

Do a little building up here. I'd recommend about Level 3 or so. If you
want, you can try to gather the Gold for the Copper Sword, as it's pretty
powerful for this point of the game, but that's up to you. Make sure to buy
a Torch and an Herb before leaving, and then head West from the castle. Once
you spot the ocean, head to the North until you spot a desert. There's a Cave
here which is our next destination, Loto's Cave.

You'll notice it's extremely dark in here. It would be wise to use a Torch so
that you can see your way through without bumping into every wall you see.
Now then, from the entrance, head to the right and then go down. Keep going
down and then take a left and head down. Go right and then down. Go as far
right as you can, and then go down, right, and then go up. Head to the right
and go down the stairs here.

From here, go up, left, and down the first path that you come across. Go
left, up and then left again. Now head up and go left and then up again.
From here, go right, up, left, up, right, down, right, and up. You'll find
a Tombstone here, which belongs to Loto. Read it and you'll learn more about
what you need to do.

Make your way to the exit and head northwest to find your next destination,
Garinham.

Walk around and talk with all the people to learn about Princess Lora.
There's a locked door here, and we can't get in there yet, so ignore that for
now. Check out the weapons shop to upgrade your equipment. I recommend
fighting monsters outside until you have enough money for the Leather Armor
and Iron Axe. It doesn't take as long as you think it would. If you need
any items, use the Item shop to buy whatever you need. Once you're ready,
leave the town.

Head to where Tantegal is, but don't enter. From the castle, go North while
moving to the east as you get the chance to. Keep moving North and cross the
bridge on the right and keep going east while going down at certain points.
You'll eventually reach another bridge. Cross it and head up to find your
next Destination, Kol.

If you need to rest, use the Inn. Talk with everybody in the town to learn
some more information and about a new town. As you explore the town, you'll
come across a pool. Check the Dressers above them for a STRSeed and a Cloth.
Now go three steps down from the pool and check underneath your feet to find
the PixyFlute. Keep this in hand for now, as it'll become important later.
Once you have everything done in here, exit the town.

From here, head south through the Poisonous Swamp and enter the cave here.

You can find Princess Lora in here, but it would be wise not to yet, as you're
no match for the enemy that guards her. Just head south, then a few steps
east and south again. Go to the east again, south, west and then north and
go up the stairs.

Head Southwest and go south from the passage way between the mountains. Once
you see some mountains, go east and then south, and then go northwest once you
get the chance to. Follow this path to find your next destination, Rimuldar.

Explore the town for a bit and talk with all the people. When you find a
woman telling you that she's changing, check her Dresser for a Warp Wing.
It's a good idea to buy the Steel Sword and the Steel Armor here. The enemies
outside give good Gold, so it won't take that long.

Before leaving the town, go the east exit, and cross the bridge but stop after
you do, Go up and hug across the water, and follow the path the water goes
and go into the house you come across. Check the pots for 123G and a DEFSeed.
Talk with the man behind the counter to buy some keys. You can only buy 6.
Now go back to the inn and open the doors and open the chest containing a
Life Acorn. Go buy two more keys.

Now that we have some keys, exit Rimuldar and use a Warp Wing to get back to
Tantegal. Enter the Castle.

Head up and west of the fountain and unlock the door here. Open the chests to
obtain 350G, an AGLSeed, a MysticNut, and a Key. Exit here and head northeast
to find another locked door. Unlock it and enter it . On the right is a Key
Shop, but these ones cost more. Buy some still. Talk with the lady and head
for the side of the castle and walk along the side until you reach some
stairs. Take them and talk with the wizard for a chest. Open it to obtain
the Sun Stone. Check the Dressers for a Life Acorn and an Herb.

Well, now that we have the Sun Stone, it's time to get another artifact we
need. Head for Garinham and head for the locked door and enter through. Open
the chests here for 630G, a Copper Sword, and a Torch. Now go behind where
the old lady is and go up against the wall to find a passage. Follow the path
and talk with the Wizard at the end and he'll disappear. Go down the stairs.

You should have the spell Radiant by now. Use this to light your way through
the tunnels. From where you start, go north and then head to the east and go
north again. At the intersection here, head east and go north as far as you
can. Then go west, north, and west to find a few treasure chests containing
537G, a LifeAcorn, and a Key here. Now go back to the east, going northeast
and then south until you reach some pillars. Keep going south and use the Key
you just got on the door here. Follow the linear path here and take the
stairs to the next level.

Instead of going up these stairs, head west until you find some more stairs.
Go down them. Now from here, go west and then south. Follow this path until
you can head north. Go North to find a chest containing 343G. Now go back
to the stairs and go up them and head south. Go down the stairs here and then
go north. Head east once you can and go north, going past some pillars. Now
go east and then north and then east again and go down the stairs you come
across. Follow the path and go west once you get the chance. Go down the
stairs to find the ShinyHarp. Now exit.

Now that we have the ShinyHarp, you're probably wondering what to do with it.
Well, head to Kol, and go west from Kol, going between some mountains. Go
north once you get the chance and then go east to find the Rain Shrine.

Enter and talk with the Wizard here. He'll notice that you have the
ShinyHarp and will grant you passage to the Rain Staff. Grab it. Now we have
the Rain Staff and Sun Stone, but we need Loto's Seal still.

Well, there are two things we can do right now. We can save Princess Lora,
but the Dragon guarding her is pretty strong, so let's get a few more levels
while getting some treasure. So where to?

Go to Tantegel Castle, and head west, going north around the mountains. Head
West and South around the water you come across and go across the bridge,
going south. Go east once you get past the mountains and keep going east
(while avoiding the Poisonious Swamp) to find the Mountain Cave.

Make sure you have a good amount of MP, as this place is pretty big. Use the
Radiant Spell and go west, south, and then east when you reach an
intersection. Keep going east and then head south, going west at the
intersection you come across to find some water. Go north and west around it
and follow the path to find a chest containing 350G. Now go back to the water
and go south from there. Then go west, north, and then west again, going
nort at the intersection you come across. From there, go west and then south,
going west once more and open the door here with a Key. Go down the stairs.

Go east and then south at the intersection. Once you can go east, do so and
then go north as far as you can, turning west once you can. Go as far as you
can here, and then go south and then east. Open the chests here for a STRSeed
and MysticNut. Now go north as far as you can and then east and then south.
Open the chest for a War Ring and then east as far as you can and then go
south. Grab the chest here containing an Iron Shield. Go west and then south
at the intersection. Go south as far as you can, and then turn east and then
go North. Keep going and go west at the second intersection you come across
and then head north again for a chest containing a Choker. From here, go
west and go south at the second intersection. Keep going south until you hit
the third intersection and go east and go up the stairs. Now exit out of
here.

Now that we have that out of the way, it's time to rescure Princess Lora. So
where are headed off to? The Cave Passage, which is South of Kol, so make
haste.

Once you enter, get some light and head east, south, east, and south again and
keep going south until you can't go south anymore. Now go west, south, and
west again, and then go south and unlock the door at the end. Turn the corner
to find a sleeping Dragon with Lora behind it. Time to beat some sense into
the Dragon. Approach it and Press A.

This fight is pretty difficult, but as long as you keep your health up, you
should be able to win. Just wail away on it until it falls. You get a bunch
of Experience Points from it. Lora will then be in your arms, but the enemies
don't care that you have someone in your arms. They'll still attack. Make
your way back to Tantegel Castle and put her where she belongs. You'll then
get the item LoraLuv. Save your game while you're here.

So now that the Princess is rescued, we don't need to worry about that. We
also have the Sun Stone and Rain Staff, so where do we go next? Let's head
southward.

From the Mountain Cave, go south from the Poisonous Swamp until you reach some
water. Go east from here and south to find a bridge. Cross it and follow the
mountains south and into the desert. Search around here for a city. Enter
it.

The ruin is in complete ruins, and there are random battles with some tough
enemies, so be careful not to explore for too long. As you explore the town,
head to the lowerright of the city and look for a broken down building with
some Poisonous Swamp areas. Cross this, and you'll fight a MadKnight. Like
with the Dragon, this will be tough, but as long as you can keep your HP up,
you'll win.

Once you win, cross over and press A to find the Loto Armor. Equip it and you
will no longer be harmed by the Poisonus Swamps. Plus, you'll regain 1 HP
every step you take.

There's nothing else to do here, so leave. From Domdora, head south until you
reach some water. Go west a little then south and east and cross the bridge
here. Follow the mountains going north and east and cross the next bridge
you come across. Go south from the Poisonus Swamp to find a Golem in front
of a town. Approach it for a battle.

Extremely easy battle here. Just use your PixyFlute to put it to sleep and
wail on it. Once it wakes up, use the PixyFlute again and wail on it some
more. Repeat until the Golem falls. Now enter the town.

This town is pretty big. For starts, head into the inn and check the Dresser
for a DEFSeed. Head south to find the Item shop, and head further south to
find a door. Use the Key and grab the Key from the Dresser. If you head into
the central house in the town, there's an old woman who will tell of a man
who knows about Loto's Seal in the South. So head south and use a Key on the
Door and talk with him. In order to find Loto's Seal, you must be 40 West and
70 North from Tantegel Castle. Now find the Repellent Shop and head North to
find a MysticNut in the Dresser. Open the door here to find a Key Shop and
the Weapons/Armor shop. The Flame Sword and Silver Shield are very expensive,
but are worth it, so train outside until you get the money for the items.
Now that we know how to find Loto's Seal, let's do so.

Exit Mercado and head back across the bridge and follow the field southwest
and cross the bridge going east. Now keep going southeast until you find a
massive Poisonous Swamp. Now pull out LoraLuv and use it until you see 40
West and 70 North of Tantegel. Once you're in that spot, check underfoot to
find Loto's Seal. So where to now?

Head all the way back to Rimuldar and head south from there to find a shrine.
Enter it and the wizard will recognize the Seal. Open the chest for the
Rainbow Drop. Now go back to Rimuldar, and head Northwest as far as you can.
You'll then use the Rainbow Drop to form a bridge. Cross it, and enter
DracoLord's Castle.

This is it. One thing to note is that you should fight any random encounters
you get into, as the experience is very good here. Anyways, from the start,
head to the left side of the castle and go past the door here. Go to the
Throne Room and check behind the throne to find a hidden staircase.

Open the door here and head south. Keep going and go west from the
intersection that you come across. Keep going and at the next intersection,
go northeast and take the stairs going down. From here, go west and north at
the second intersection you come across. Once you reach the third
intersection, go east and then south at the fourth intersection. Take a south
at the last intersection and take the stairs here. Head west from here to
find two chests containing 502G and an Herb. Go back to the stairs and head
east from them. Go north when you can and ignore the stairs you come across.
Go west and take the stairs you see here. Go south and then east at the
first intersection you come across. Go north and take the stairs down. Keep
going down the stairs you come across and open the chest containing the Loto
Sword. Equip it and head back up the series of stairs. Head south and until
you hit a wall, and then east and north, then east again the first chance you
get. Take the stairs here and follow the path until you find some more
stairs. Take them and head all the way to the east, taking these stairs as
well.

Go north and make your way to the east and open the door you come across on
the west. Open the chests for a Key, DvlBelt, Warp Wing, 535G, 417G, an Herb,
and a MysticNut. Now go back to the entrance here and go west, and then
north. Go east at the intersection and follow the path here. You'll find
yourself outside of the castle. Walk across the bridges here and you'll
re-enter the castle. You'll find DracoLord sitting on his Throne. Choose
your options and be ready to fight.

DracoLord isn't all that hard. Firebane has no effect on him, so don't waste
your time with it. Just keep wailing on DracoLord, keeping your HP above 65.
He'll fall eventually.

Looks like peace has returned... or has it?

DracoLord will then transform into his real form, and it's time for the real
fight. This fight is much tougher, as DracoLord can hit you for about 50
damage with his Fire Breath. Keep your health up with HealMore, and keep
wailing on him. As long as you keep your health up, you'll come out
victorious.

DracoLord is dead. The land will become purified and the poisonus swamps will
turn into Flowerbeds. For epic sakes, make your way back to Tantegel Castle
on foot. Now talk with the King, and he'll offer his Kingdom. The Hero will
say no, and Princess Lora will ask to go with you. You have to say yes, so
say it. The Hero and Lora will walk off, and the credits will roll.

Congratulations! You beat Dragon Warrior I.
