While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game, Desert
Strike: Return to the Gulf. A game based off of the Persian Gulf War, like its
counterpart Jungle Strike; that, or just coincidentally in the Middle East.

Yeah, I don't have much to say about this; not real good with this, you know.
But try to enjoy.

--------
Controls
--------

Note that directions (forward, clockwise, etc.) are respective to the pilot in
the helicopter.

~~ D-Pad : (Up) Move forward; go through area detailings when paused.
(Down) Move backward; go through area detailings when paused.
(Right) Rotate clockwise; go through detailings when paused.
(Left) Rotate counterclockwise; cycle detailings when paused.
~~ A Button : Fire H-Fire missiles; hold and use D-Pad to slide left/right.
~~ B Button : Fire Hydra missiles; hold to use the Chain Gun.
~~ Start Button : N/A.
~~ Select Button: Use to view Map/Status screens. Use B to switch between them.
~~ L/R Buttons : These only have functions on the GBA SP and GameBoy Player
ways of playing the game. They will widen/narrow the screen,
                  respectively. Otherwise, N/A.

-----------
Starting Up
-----------

At the main menu, you'll three options. The first option allows you to start a
new Campaign. If you want to restart an old one, use the Password option - use
A, B, or Select to reach the password screen.

The second option allows you to choose your co-pilot. He is responsible for
aiming guns and operating the winch. The more capable he is, the better it is
for you.

The Options option lets you mess with the controls' defaults. One notable
option is the Momentum setting. As always, any heavy, moving object, such as
your Apache helicopter, has momentum; that is to say, inertia; that is to say,
it will keep moving after you lift off of the D-Pad Up/Down Button. If you do
not want this, opt to use "From Cockpit".

-----------------
Gameplay Overview
-----------------

Once you're ready, choose Campaign to begin. Before each mission begins, you
will receive a briefing from the Commander in Chief, who will end up telling
you the mission objectives.

While you play the mission, you'll want to meet each objective in the order
they are given. It will be of great benefit to you to use the Map and Status
Screens - use Select to bring them up, and B to swap between the two. Don't
worry if you do this in the middle of a fire-fight - it pauses the game!

The map will show the area, and the spinning plus (+) sign is you. You can
cycle through the various targets and items by using Left/Right on the D-Pad.
The flashing icons represent where they are.

The Status Screen will show stuff. First, you'll receive your Chain Gun,
Hydra, and H-Fire stocks. These are your weapons. Below that, you'll find
your number of lives, your "load" (the number of civilians/MIA's on-board, of
which you can have up to six), your fuel percentage, and your armuor. Your
armour is your Apache's health or HP - it has a max of 600 units, and you lose
a life when it hits zero as a result of enemy fire. Fuel runs out over time,
and you lose a life when it hits zero.

When at the Map Screen, hold A to find the Mission Information screen. It has
data files on most of the items, targets, and so on. You'll get a picture and
corresponding info. Note that Armour Points are like your Armour, and Power
Points refer to the power of the enemy's weaponry.

Anyways, you'll pretty much navigate yourself manually through the missions
using these tools, as the targets' information is too randomized and too
move-on-your-own for a regular walkthrough. Sorry.

---------------
Apache Overview
---------------

FUEL: Each helicopter, be it 1992 or 2012, tends to require gasoline to fly and
generate the power to power the rotors. The Apache carries up to 100
units of fuel; therefore, you can pretty much look at the fuel left and
view it as a percentage. This will get lower over time until it hits zero
and the helicopter hits the ground, causing a loss of life. To refill it,
      pick up some gas barrels.

AMMUNITION AND WEAPONRY: There are three weapons you can use. The Chain Gun,
which has the highest amount of ammo, causes 3 points
of damage with each bullet. Hydras have less ammo, but
cause 25 points of damage per missile. H-Fires (or
Hellfires) have even less, but cause 100 points of
damage. Respectively, you can have a max of 1,178
bullets, 38 missiles, and 8 missiles. The ammo crates
you can pick up will fully replenish them all.

ARMOUR: To use the non-American spelling of the word. Armour is your HP; it
will go down as you take hits. Once it hits zero, you will lose a life.
You can have up to 600 units of health. Pick up cases of armour to
refill it. Additionally, you'll also be able to fix extra lives, which
look like crates with an X on top.

This first section concerns how much health and power the enemy has.

This section section is merely for the curious: how long it would take for you
or the enemy to die when under constant attack. Note this assumes you have max
Armour (600) and the enemy has their own max Armour. Given that I've yet to
time your own weaponry, I'm just using the number of shots...
