While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game Championship
Pool. As you can guess, it is a game about playing billiards. You can't really
get much simpler than that, and yet, you also can't really get a much better
billiards video game anywhere.

Yeah, I don't know much to say about this. But try to enjoy.

A General Game of Billiards
---------------------------

Note that, later on, I'll explain game modes. This is based on what I've seen
in typical billiards games; the game modes section will make changes to this.

Each game will begin with a coin toss to determine who breaks -- that is, make
the first shot.

Afterwards, we'll assume you do the first shot. (If not, it's a similar
concept; you'll just need to wait your turn.) You see that flashing ball on the
table? That is your targeting cursor between the plain white (cue) ball and
wherever you want to go. Press A to see a path; use the D-Pad to move the
target around; press A again to make a shot. Before making the shot, you can...

-- Raise or lower your shot power by pressing B. This is a very significant
   matter; you may need a ball to bump into something to reach a pocket. If it
   doesn't hit with just the right amount of power, you screw up.

-- Set the amount of spin by using Select and B. As the cue is to the right of
   the center of the cue ball, it will move more leftward, and vice versa. You
   can move the cue up to increase speed with topspin, or down to slow down via
   backspin.

Sometimes, you may need to "call" (decide to go for) a certain ball and pocket.
You cannot shoot until you do so. To call, start the initial tracking, then
press Select and A to see the currently-called ball. To change the called
pocket, use the D-Pad to find the desired one, and press A.

Eventually, you'll pocket a ball and, in most games, now have to opt to go for
either striped or solid balls. Striped are #1 - #7; #8 - #17 are solid, but
#8 is usually not considered until near the end.

Beyond that ... it really depends on the game mode.

There are fouls, however. The circumstances vary, but they often include...

-- Pocketing a cue ball, also known as a scratch.
-- Not pocketing an object ball (any ball except the cue ball).
-- Failing to strike the edge of the table with a ball.
-- The first ball fails to hit the proper object ball.

Consequences also can differ, but ALWAYS involve...

-- Loss of the fouling player's current turn.
-- If resulting from a stroke, pocketed balls don't count and it is invalid.
-- Balls may be respotted (put back in proper location) or may not be; depends
   on the rules of the game.

----------------
The Title Screen
----------------

From here, you can select one of the methods of play:

-- Tournament: Play Eight Ball or Nine Ball all the way to become world
               champion! You'll need to win against five opponents.

-- Challenge: A mode designed for practicing six games and pool skills.

-- Party: A multiplayer pass-the-console mode designed for 2-to-8 players, all
          depending on the game mode chosen.

-- Freestyle: Just do what you want to do here.

-------------------------
Game Modes and Variations
-------------------------

~~~~~~~~~~~
Three Ball:
~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- You'll play with the cue ball and three object balls.
-- You want to sink all of the balls in as few strokes as possible to win.

Rules:
-- First player breaks any three object balls.
-- Shots are not called.
-- Misses result in raised scores (which is bad) and a reshot.
-- A scratch results in a raised score (which is bad) and all balls must be
   spotted that were pocketed. The stroke is reshot.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Eight Ball:
~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- Game is played with 15 object balls and the cue ball.
-- One person must pocket the stripes (#1 - #7) while another pockets the
   solids (#9 - #15). The choice is made by the person who pockets the first
   ball.
-- After a person has pocketed all their balls, the next goal is the 8-ball.
-- First person to LEGALLY pocket the 8-ball wins.

Rules:
-- All shots are called.
-- With the break, one ball must be pocketed or four balls must hit the rail.
   Otherwise, it is a foul. The next player will opt to take the balls as they
   are or rebreak.
-- If there is a scratch on the break, the balls remain pocketed. The player
   will get a foul, and the next player will be able to place the cue ball
   where they wish on the left third of the table.
-- If there is a scratch or foul after the break, the next player can place the
   cue ball where they wish.
-- If the 8-ball gets pocketed on the break, it gets spotted.
-- After choosing stripes or solids, you must hit your own ball first.
-- You continuously shoot until you foul, pocket a ball illegally, or pocket
   the 8-ball legally for a win.
-- You lose upon fouling when pocketing the 8-ball, pocketing the 8-ball with
   your last object ball, pocketing the 8-ball in an uncalled pocket, or when
   you pocket the 8-ball but it is not the last ball you have to pocket.

~~~~~~~~~~
Nine Ball:
~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- Played with nine numbered object balls and a cue ball.
-- Each shot must hit the lowest-numbered ball on the table first; pockets can
   be in any order, however.
-- Legally pocket the 9-ball to win.

Rules:
-- With the break, you must hit the #1 ball AND either pocket a ball or hit
   four balls into the rail; otherwise, it is a foul.
-- With scratches or fouls, the next player can place the cue ball wherever
   they wish.
-- The first ball hit in any shot must be the lowest-numbered ball, or it is a
   foul.
-- Three fouls in a row results in a loss.
-- You'll win upon legally pocketing the 9-ball.

~~~~~~~~~
Ten Ball:
~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- This is a variant of Nine Ball, but uses ten balls rather than nine.
-- Legally pocket the 10-ball to win.

Rules:
-- On the break, you must hit the lowest-numbered ball AND either pocket a ball
   or make one hit the cushion, or you'll foul.
-- You'll continuously shoot until failing to legally pocket a ball.
-- After legally pocketing a ball, you must shoot again.
-- Three consecutive fouls results in a loss.
-- Legally pocketing the 10-ball results in a win.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
14.1 Continuous:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- Each player must call every shot.
-- Points are awarded for correctly calling and legally pocketing a ball.
-- The game ends after a set number of points (15, 25, 50, 100, 150) is earned
   by a player.

Rules:
-- The first player must either call which ball will be pocketed, OR make the
   cue ball hit the balls, then hit the rail alongside two object balls. You
   lose two points for failing to do this.
-- Illegally pocketed balls get spotted without penalty.
-- Three consecutive fouls result in a 15-point deduction.

~~~~~~~~~
Rotation:
~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- Each ball has a number of points assigned to it equal to its number. The
   lowest-numbered ball must be hit first.

Rules:
-- The cue ball must first come in contact with the lowest-numbered ball;
   after that, it doesn't matter.
-- Shots are not called.
-- You continuously shoot until missing or fouling.
-- You'll lose upon getting three consecutive fouls.
-- 61 points or more gets you a win.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fifteen Ball:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- It is just like Rotation, except balls can be pocketed or hit as you wish.
   The rules are changes from it.

Rules:
-- There is no loss for three consecutive fouls.
-- The cue ball, after the break, must either hit an object ball to pocket it
   or hit the ball and then the rail.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Straight Pool:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- It's a mix between 14.1 Continuous and Fifteen Ball.

Rules:
-- Object balls are not called; the pockets are, though.
-- Pocket eight balls to win.
-- You'll shoot until you miss.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Equal Offense:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- You'll play a set number of games (1, 3, 5, 7, 10) and can earn up to
   twenty points in each by pocketing balls.

Rules:
-- You'll shoot until you miss, foul, or pocket every allowed ball.
-- You must call each ball and pocket; so long as that's right, anything else
   can happen. Extra pocketed balls do help your score.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Speed Pool:
~~~~~~~~~~~

Some Notes:
-- It's a race against the clock.
-- It's played with 15 balls and the cue ball.

Rules:
-- There is no need to call balls or pockets.
-- The first to pocket all 15 balls the fastest wins.
-- You'll get points based on the time taken; in Challenge, you beat the clock.
-- Each player shoots until all 15 balls are pocketed.
-- If you scratch, you choose where to put it and keep going.
