Question for The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening

I have all 8 instruments and have gone to the egg. Nothing happens. I went to the library in the village and read the southeastern most book. Which staircase do I climb? The one leading to the egg or the one to the east of it, leading to the first cave with the 3 bolders in front of it? I fell in the hole in that cave and only lost 1/2 heart. Nothing else happened. I must be in the wrong cave. I know that this is a *Spoiler Alert* question, but I can't figure it out. I must have missed something. Did I?

The owl appears and talks about the wind fish.
Who is sleeping in an egg! The big massive egg you can't miss it.

You need to equip the ocarina with Marins song chosen. Go up to the egg and play it. The egg will crack leaving a small gap for you to crawl through.
Now using the directions given to you by the book you read earlier, follow the path and you should come to the *Spoiler Alert* Final boss Nightmare. If you need any help with the nightmare ask me!
(P.S do the color dungeon and get the blue tunic FIRST.)

I thought I had the ballad of the wind fish but I had manbo’s mambo. Go back to mabe village after the last dungeon and speak to Marin again
