Don't waste ultra balls on unown Pokemon!

I have pokemon silver. When catching unown pokemon. I select ultra ball. The ball heads toward the pokemon and opens around it. Before the top half of the ball meets the bottom have I press the A and B button together. I hold them down until I have caught the pokemon. This has never failed for me. I am not sure if it works on other pokemon, because I have not yet tried it.
