Far: Changing Tides Cheats and Tips

Far: Changing Tides is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. Take a look at our cheats and tips to get help in the game.

Far: Changing Tides is a side-scrolling adventure puzzle game in which you assume control of an unnamed diver of a large boat and then explore a post-apocalyptic world. This game features no combat, instead you must drive the boat and manage its sail, solve environmental puzzles, and gather resources. As you progress in the game the ship will be upgraded to include a steam engine, and you must keep the ship powered by burning fuel, and prevent the engine from overheating by spraying water on it.

FAR: Changing Tides Cheats, Tips Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include how to get the Heart Core Achievement/Trophy and How to get the Salvage Hunter Achievement/Trophy. As well as these hints and tips, we also have a Beginners Guide here which goes into more details on some of the tips we have below:

How to get the Steady as you Go Achievement/Trophy

In order to get the Steady as you Go Achievement/Trophy you need to navigate the underwater caves near the waterfall without bumping into them. Select Chapter 51 from the menu and then with plenty of patience and car control the speed and direction of the ship with the two levers in the middle of the boat. If you are always moving forward in first gear the engine will never overheat, and you will be slow and steady.

How to get the Heart Core Achievement/Trophy

To get this secret Achievement/Trophy you have to install the engine module. You won't be able to do this until you have made it past the sawmill and entered the trainyard. When you enter the trainyard move the train to the right, then left, so you have the crane in place over the floor hatch. Then use the crane to lower the engine down into the boat. Throw all the trash down the hole for fuel and then jump down and push the engine down into the boat, so you install it. Take a look at our How to Complete the Sawmill Puzzle guide to find out how you get past the sawmill.

How to get the What Now? Achievement/Trophy

To get this secret Achievement/Trophy you have to leave the floating city. You will be able to do this once you have raised the ship out of the water. Go to the far left and climb the ladder. Then jump on the button. Now that it's day time, raise the sails, launching the boat, unlocking the Achievement/Trophy.

How to get the Going Green Achievement/Trophy

In order to get this Achievement/Trophy you must burn the flower. The earliest you will be able to do this is in Chapter 13 where you just need to load it up into the furnace. If you miss it, load up Chapter 15, grab the flower pot from the room above the vessel up a fight of stairs, then bring it back and burn it.

How to get the Salvage Hunter Achievement/Trophy

To get this Achievement/Trophy you need to salvage the contents of 6 containers in a single journey. Two of these containers are part of the storyline and can't be missed as they hide access to buttons you need to press to progress. As you advance through the game you will notice buoys on the surface (Chapters 20, 31, 32, 39, and 51). What you need to do is follow the chain, attached to the bottom of the buoy, to the ocean floor. When you do so you will find a cache at the base of the chain, and it is four of these caches you need to collect to unlock the Achievement/Trophy. There are 5 or 6 Buoys in total.
