Shenmue Dreamcast Walkthrough by wardles_tollbar

Key:

U = Up     D = Down     L = Left     R = Right
QTE = When a certain letter or direction flashes on the screen and you have to quickly press the 
corresponding button on the game control.

This walkthrough does NOT tell you everything you need to do in the game. If you are told by a game 
character to go somewhere or do something then you must do what they say unless you are told not to by 
this walkthrough or by another game character.
Also remember to read ahead so that you know what is coming up so that you are ready and in case the 
walkthrough has told you not to do something that you have just been told by a game character to do.
This walkthrough is designed to be used with my "Shenmue Dreamcast Directions Booklet by 
wardles_tollbar".

Disc 1

"Dead Daddy" Scene.
"Mail" Scene.
"Dead Daddy" Nightmare.
Once you are in control of Rio go out of the door in the top left hand corner of the room.
"Keeping" Busy" Scene.
To find Fuku-san once the scene has finished walk forwards by about 2 or 3 paces and then turn left. Go                                                                                                       
out of the door straight ahead.
Follow the footpath the long way round (turn left instead of going straight ahead).
"That Man" Scene.
Go back along the footpath until you can either go left or right, go left and go out of the gate. Now 
follow the main road until a scene starts.
"Kitty" Scene.
When you have the choice of Dried Fish or Dried Tofu for the cat choose Dried Fish.
Once the scene has finished turn left and continue to follow the main road until you are in 
Sakuragaoka.
Now turn right as soon as you can and keep going straight ahead until a scene starts.
"Lost Old Lady" Scene.
To find the Yamamoto's house you turn around and then go straight until there is a turning on your 
right. If you turned here you would be going the "Road Way to Doubita". If you turned here there would 
also be a yellow and pink sign on your left. This is what the maps in Sakuragaoka look like. Zoom in on 
the map and you will see where the Yamamoto`s house is. You will also notice that behind this map there 
are a lot of trees, these trees mark the edge of the park where the old lady is waiting. Go to the 
Yamamoto's house, zoom in on the nameplate and press A. Then go into the park and keep the low-down 
yellow railings on your left until a scene starts.
"Found It" Scene.
"Old Lady's Thankyou" Scene.
Now go straight ahead until you come to the last house on your right. Talk to the old man in the 
garden.
Once you have finished talking to him exit the garden, if you turned right here you would be going the
"Forest Way to Doubita". Go the road way to Doubita and go to Funny Bear Burgers.
LAB (QTE - To beat up the two guys in black).
Go to Itoi-san at Mary's Patches & Embroidery, not Manpukuken Ramen or Maeda Barbershop.
Even though in the Ajiichi you were told that the Lui Barber and Hair Salon would be closed it has now 
just opened.
Ask Tom about sailors.
The bar you need to go to first is Yokosuka Bar.
You can go to MJQ Jazz Bar before you go to Heartbeats if you want to but there is no point as you 
don't get any futher into the game. However, if you go to Heartbeats before 7pm you will be sent away.
"Go home" Scene.
BA (QTE - To beat up the guys who are blocking you from entering Heartbeats Bar).
"Schoolboy" Scene.
BABA (QTE - To beat up the guys inside Heartbeats Bar).
"Charlie" Scene.
You don`t need to talk to the owner of Knocking Motorcycle Shop, just go straight to Hirata Tobacco 
Shop.
A (QTE - To catch the football)(THIS HAPPENS ON THE SECOND DAY OF THE GAME - IF YOU DO NOT MANAGE THE
ABOVE ON THE FIRST DAY THEN YOU WILL DO THIS EARLY AND IF YOU DO ALL OF THE ABOVE AND MOVE ON TO THE 
BELOW THEN YOU WILL DO THIS LATER).
"Vending Machine" Scene.
Buy him the drink or he will just bug you about it later on.
Once you have been to Nagai Industries then go up the stairs and through the door on the right. Once 
you are in this room talk to the guy with the brown top on.
Head towards the You Arcade from no closer than the Tomato Convience Storeat 7pm or later.
"Impressed" Scene.
Free Battle.
"Tattoo Parlour" Scene.
Ask the owner of the You Arcade about the Tattoo Parlour.
Talk to the customer nearest the arcade owner first.
Say yes to joining the gang.
Look at a map to find Okayama Heights, but you won't get any information if you go tonight so wait 
until tommorow.
The tattoo parlour is the second room upstairs.
"Tough Tattoo" Scene.
LA (QTE - To stop the guy in the tattoo parlour from stabbing you).
"Wrong One" Scene.
"Orientation" Scene.
You do not go to the arcade at 3pm because the guy from the tattoo parlour brings himself and his mates
to you as he cannot wait to try and beat you up.
Now you can just do what you like for the rest of the day.
"Promise" Scene.
Spar.
"Too Dangerous" Scene.
"Don't Do It" Scene.
"Chinese Letter" Scene.
Once this collection of scenes has finished then you head towards Doubita as you normally would and a 
scene will start just after you have entered Sakuragaoka.
"Construction" Scene.
Free Battle.
A (QTE - To stop the guy with the ball from stabbing you in the back litterally).
Go the forest way to Doubita.
Once you have gone down the steps you go go straight ahead until you have to turn either left or right, 
turn left and go straight ahead until Gao Wen starts to talk to you.
"Master Chen" Scene.
The nearest phone is at Hirata Tobacco Shop.
When the person on the phone says "Father's Heaven" you say "Nine Dragons" and when the person on the 
phone says "Mother's Earth" you say "Comrades". It is not always that way round.
Once you have called look in the phone directory next to the phone.
Now talk to the owner of Hirata Tobacco Shop.
The main street is on your left. The bus comes every half an hour at 00 and 30 on a weekday and at 15 
and 45 on a weekend.


Disc 2

"Harbour" Scene.
Go straight ahead and turn left, keep going straight ahead until a scene starts.
"Mugging" Scene.
LAB (QTE - To beat up the muggers).
"Warehouse No. 8" Scene.
Try to enter warehouse no. 8 by the main entrance.
Now walk around the warehouse until Ryo sees the open window.
There are a stack of brown boxes and there is an orange block nearby them. Push the orange block 
towards the stack of brown ones and climb through the window.
Once you are inside the warehouse turn right and keep walking until a scene starts.
"Old Warehouse District" Scene.
Ask the security guard guarding the old warehouse district about the old warehouse district.
Now try to get inside.
Whilst you are waiting for 7pm go to Hisaka-san's stall.
"Money" Scene.
Choose to help, it will give you something to do and if you manage to do everything fast enough then 
you will get help in getting into the old warehouse district.
"Old Man" Scene.
The coffees are the two cans at the bottom of the vending machine. Make sure that you get him one 
otherwise if you buy a drink later on you might end up automatically giving it to him and he helps you
later on. If you buy him any other drink apart from a coffee then he just goes on about how stupid 
young people are. 
"Homeless Old Man" Scene.
LAL (QTE - To beat up the two schoolgirls with Mai).
Now go back to Hisaka-san, don`t worry if she isn`t there, just leave it if this is the case and go to 
the old warehouse district. If she is there you will get the following scenes:
"All Right" Scene.
"Delivery" Scene.
"Guard Shortage" Scene.
"Thanks" Scene.
Then you would go to the old warehouse district.
R (QTE - To catch the torch).
Once you are in warehouse no. 8 you will find a white plate roughly straight ahead on one of the 
shelves that stands out from the rest, pick it up and a scene will start.
"Master Chen Introduction" Scene.
Once you have woken up the next day you are going to collect some items from around the house. You will
start with your bedroom. When you wake up there is a desk on your left and on the top there is a 
cassette tape, in the top drawer there is a cassette player, in the middle drawer there is a photograph
and in the bottom drawer there is another cassette tape. 
Before you leave your room you must remember that if you see Ine-san at any point of this "gathering" 
then talk to her and then continue with the game. 
Now exit your room and turn left. Enter the last room on your left. This is Fuku-san's room. He also 
has a desk and on top of his there is a pile of books with a moves scroll on top. 
Now exit this room and turn right. Enter the next room on your right. In the top, left hand corner of 
this room there is a cabinet. In the top, left hand drawer you will find some batteries. 
Now exit this room and turn right again. Enter the next room on your right. This is the kitchen, in the 
fridge there is a bottle of milk and on the side there is a bag of dried fish. You can not get the 
dried fish if Ine-san is washing up in the kitchen so if she is you will have to wait.
After this you are going to exit the room and turn right but this time enter the next room on your left
instead of your right. This is the altar room. You will find a box of matches on top of a desk. There 
are also four drawers in this room, 2 above a small cupboard and 2 bigger ones on their own. Open the 
right hand side one out of the ones which are above the small cupboard and you will find a box of 
candles.
Now exit this room, but not by the room you came in by, go out of the other one and there will be a 
hamper on the floor on your left, open this basket and there is a martial arts uniform and on top of it
there is a moves scroll.
Now turn around and go straight ahead until you can't anymore. Enter the room on your right. This is 
Ryo's dad's room. In here there is a low-down desk, just like the one in Fuku-san's room. Open the
drawer and you will find a key. 
Now exit the room, but again, not by the door you entered. Exit by the other door. Now turn right and 
and enter the second room on your left. You will find yourself back in the kitchen. If you have not 
already talked to Ine-san then wait for her here and then talk to her when she comes. If you have 
already talked to her/once you have talked to her continue with the game.
Exit the kitchen, turn left and and on the cupboard where the phone is on the very left side there is 
a flashlight. Take this and exit the house by the front door, which is now on your right.
Follow the footpath the long way round to get to the dojo until a scene starts.
"Tell-Tale" Scene.
"Eavesdropper" Scene.
The antique shop you want is Bunkado Antiques in Doubita.
"Sword Handguard" Scene.
Go to the Tomato Convenience Store and buy a light bulb before you go home.
Now you can go home, as you enter the gate a scene will start and as you are just about to leave 
Sakuragaoka one will aswell.
"If I Was" Scene.
Free Battle.
"Bodyguard" Scene.
"My Inheritance" Scene.
Once you are in the main house, turn left and then right and then left again. Enter the first room on 
your left.
"Hazuki Family Crest" Scene.
Exit this room, turn right and exit the house (turn right instead of going straight ahead when you have
that option).
Follow the longer footpath and enter the dojo (go to the very back). There are two wall hangings here.
Take the one on the left down and then put the sword handguard in the space. 
There is a box to the right of the right hand side wall hanging, open it with the key you found 
earlier.
Now take down the wall hanging on the right hand side and put the sword from the box in the slot. The
Wall will now open and you can go down to the basement.
Once you have gone down the ladder into the basement switch on your torch. Go down the corridor until 
you come into a room. Go to the middle of this room and stare at the ceiling until you find a 
lampshade.
Put the light bulb in here. Now turn around and go to the right of the entrance. Turn on the light and
then turn off your torch.
Now go over to the top, left hand corner of the room. If you stare at the floor to the left of the 
shelves you will find some scratches. Now stand behind the shelves on these scratches and press A. You
will drag the shelves backwards. Now go over to where the shelves where before you pulled them back and
you will find a section of the wall that looks different from the rest. Zoom in on the section and 
press A. 
Once Ryo has finsished talking go over to the left of the entrance and you will find an axe, pick it 
up.
Go back over to the piece of wall and press A. You will smash open the section of the wall.
Congratulations! You now have the pheonix mirror.
"Possessed" Scene.
Go to Russiya China Shop before you give the mirror to Master Chen.
"Bird of Fortune" Scene.
Now you can go to Hirata Tobacco Shop and phone Master Chen and go see him.
Make sure that you talk to the security guard guarding the old warehouse district before you try to go 
in otherwise he will stop you going in. This time it doesn`t matter if any of the security guards see 
you.
"Pheonix Mirror" Scene.
L (QTE - To stop chai, the skinhead, from running off with the pheonix mirror).
"Wasting Your Life" Scene.
"Two Mirrors" Dream.
"Bank Statement" Scene.
Talk to Fuku-san, he is in his bedroom.
"Cheap Travel Agencies" Scene.
"Persuasion" Scene.
Exit the house and go to Asia Travel Company, it is above Yaokatsu Vegetables on the map.
"Hong Kong" Scene.
"Pretty Expensive" Scene.
Before you go back to Asia Travel Company to ask about boat tickets make sure that it is no later than 
3:50pm, if it is then wait until tommorow to ask.
Three or four hours means four hours.
"No Ticket" Scene.
Go back home now, you can`t do anything else until tommorrow.
"Shanhua" Dream.
"Phone Call" Scene.
If you go to the You Arcade early it will happen before noon.
"Lan Di Dream" Scene.
Free Battle.
"Interupted" Scene.

Go to Asia Travel Company and ignore the closed sign.
"Closed" Scene.

Disc 3

"Mad Angels" Scene.
Once you are at the harbour go to warehouse no. 18 and talk to the foreman inside.
The guy your age that the foreman was talking about was Goro. Walk past warehouse no. 13 to find him.
"Goro" Scene.
Find something to do until 8pm, then go to bed.
"You Have A Job" Scene.
"Training" Scene.
Work (PM).
"End of First Day" Scene.
"Starting Time" Scene.
Hang around near Alpha Trading Office after 7pm.
Every lunchtime and whenever you are waiting for 7pm then I would strongly suggest that you go to 
warehouse no. 4 and practise your fighting skills as in the near future of the game you will be 
fighting 70 men in one fight with only Gui Zhang to help you, and he dissapears half way through.
You should also know that when you are given a route map each day for your job ALWAYS follow the solid
line routes as this walkthrough has been written keeping in mind that whoever reads it will stick to 
the solid lines, and on the occasions were it doesn't matter the solid line is the shortest way.
"Leave Him Alone" Scene.
ADLR (QTE - To win the chicken race).
Go home (after 8pm).
MAKE SURE THAT EVERY NIGHT, BEFORE YOU GO TO BED THAT YOU REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE YOU SEND 
RYO TO SLEEP AS THE NEXT DAY RYO WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO TO WORK AND THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE
IT UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY.

on your last point to come over here. You could spend all of your time here if you wanted to.

SAVE THE GAME TO CONTINUE WITH SHENMUE 2 IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO PLAY IT.
