Last Updated: by Dennis

Dirt Rally 2.0 is a racing video game that focuses on rallying and rallycross. Set in real-life off-road environments in New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia and the USA you have to compete in timed stage events on tarmac and off-road terrain in varying weather conditions. To be successful you will have to rely on your co-driver and instincts to guide you as you compete against other drivers in the most powerful off-road vehicles ever made as you find yourself racing against the clock on tracks at day or night, in rain or shine. Check out our DiRT Rally 2.0 cheats and tips page to learn how you can become a better driver.

Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you improve your driving. These include accelerating and how to use the handbrake to drift around corners.

Co-Driver

It is important that you always listen to the advise that your co-driver gives you as his pace notes will allow you to anticipate what's coming up on the road ahead. Try to memorise the sequences of subsequent turns. Neglecting to pay attention to your co-driver will only result in dire consequences.

Accelerating

Just holding down the accelerator will not get you very far in DiRT Rally 2.0. To have any kind of success you will need to play cautiously making sure you pay attention to the ground which becomes looser particularly on dirt or gravel surfaces and more difficult to maneuver as the race goes on. It is better to slow down and complete a turn with lower speed than to crash and lose precious time.

Handbrake

In DiRT Rally 2.0 making handbrake turns so you intitate a drift is an important skill you need to master as you will be spending a fair amount of time drifting around corners. The handbrake only really needs to come into play to tighten a turn otherwise a combination of the brake and accelerator will get you around most bends. Only use the handbrake on turnarounds, 90-degree turns and in tight turns with the '1' mark. Activate it just before entering the turn.

Turns

Remember that it is better to brake too early than too late, what is important is how you exit the turn, not how you enter it. Start turning earlier, even before you enter the turn. Use the gas pedal to balance the car and counter it with the steering wheel.

Tyres

Make sure you have the correct tyres fitted to your wheels. In DiRT Rally 2.0 there are different tyre compounds you can choose from and the ones you select will be determined by what you are up against. The three types of tyres are soft, medium, or hard. Basically soft tyres will provide better grip in the short term but are not durable and hard tyres will last much longer than the other types.

Cars

Cars become unlocked using the credits you earn. You will start the game with a few cars in your garage and once you start earning credits you will be able to buy cars. You will be able to get some R2 or GT class cars early in the game if you have the money. Make sure you test drive the vehicle that's for sale before you buy it.

FWD, RWD, 4WD

Each car in DiRT Rally 2.0 will either be FWD, RWD, 4WD. This basically refers to which wheels of the vehicle are powered by the engine. Start learning how to drive with the front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) cars and then move on to the rear-wheel drive (RWD) ones.

Repairs

You will be able to make repairs to your car at the stations between stages. The amount of time you have to do this is restricted and going over the allotted time will result in a time penalty. Obviously the less you have to fix the better but if your car has sustained a fair amount of damage it is advised that you make repairing the internal organs your priority before mending the superficial damage to your car's body.

Extra Credits

If there is a particular car you want to unlock and it is expensive you may want to consider taking part in the daily and weekly challenges for extra credits. Remember though that car damages during these challenges translates to the career mode.
