Civilization VI: Gathering Storm Cheats and Tips

PC
Last Updated: by Dennis

Gathering Storm is the second downloadable add-on for the world simulation game Sid Meier's Civilization VI. In this turn-based strategy game one or more players compete alongside computer-controlled AI opponents to grow their individual civilization from a small tribe to control of the entire planet across several periods of development.

Civilization VI: Gathering Storm features two new systems, one is in the form of natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, river floods, rising sea levels, hurricanes, dust storms, blizzards, tornadoes, and droughts. The other is negotiating with the global community in the World Congress on critical issues. The choices you make will influence the world ecosystem and determine the future of the entire planet.

Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include avoiding warmonger penalties and how to get suzeraine bonuses.

Food Production

Make food production an early priority. Your civilisation needs food to stay healthy and encourage growth, so make the provision of it the focus of your early research and building efforts.

Settlers

Capturing an early settler from another civilization is often a good tactic, even at the cost of war. You just need to be careful of warmonger penalties.

Warmonger Penalties

Warmonger penalties decrease your reputation with other civilizations. Warmonger penalties can be avoided in the ancient era so try to take advantage of this.

Animal Husbandry and Pottery

These are both good early research options as they allow you to harvest both plants and animals for food.

Tile Improvements

Districts and some tile improvements (e.g. farms) benefit from other districts and improvements nearby. So by placing these in trianglular or diamond formation you can often maximise efficiency.

Envoys

Sending envoys to city states can provide several benefits especially if you manage to become the suzeraine of that city.

Suzeraines

Suzeraine status grants you very powerful bonuses such as taking control of city state's military, use their resources or unique diplomacy bonuses.

War

Before you attack another civilisation you should make sure you are educated in who is allied with whom and what kind of military each party has.
