Top 10 Playstation Games that need to be on PSOne Classics

9. Azure Dreams

Azure Dreams is a bit of an odd title for the PlayStation that combines the Pokemon monster collecting theme, some rouge-like gameplay involving climbing a tower, and… relationship building? It's a rather unique mix of elements and mechanics, and the type of game that can readily be enjoyed in short bursts on a Vita.

In Azure Dreams, you star as Koh, who lives in the town of Monsbaiya. At the edge of the town is a mysterious tower, wherein people come from all around to search for Monster Eggs, which are worth a pretty penny. When Koh was younger, his father was one of these egg hunters, but one day he entered the tower, never to return again. Since then, Koh's family has been struggling to get by, and on Koh's fifteenth birthday, he begins to search the tower himself, for both clues to his father's disappearance and to try and make a better life for his mother and sister.

Most of Azure Dreams takes place in the Monster Tower, which is… a tower full of Monsters. Instead of fighting them in a normal fashion, though, Kou has to gather Familiars (friendly monsters) to fight battles for him. This is because every time he leaves the dungeon, Koh's level reverts to 1, but the Familiars will keep the experience and levels they earned. So, instead of the typical role you would play as the hero, attacking and using flashy skills, your main task is to support your Familiars while they are battling the monsters of the tower, while keeping yourself alive.

Also, every time you enter the Monster Tower, the layout changes. This helps to keep the trek up the tower from being too boring, as you'll always have to start from the bottom floor and keep working up. Koh can also only hold twenty items while in the tower, and only bring in five, leaving for a fair bit of rouge-like strategizing.

Finally, some of Azure Dream's has some more unusual additions to help distract you from the main grind that is the Monster Tower. You can invest your money back into the town of Monsbaiya, improving the lives of your family and the town's citizens, and unlocking various buildings that provide mini-games to enjoy. You can even woo the ladies of the town, for those interested in building a romantic relationship.

However, the title can get a little tedious at times, with the core of the game consisting of climbing a tower over and over again, but that's what makes it good for a portable PSOne Classics release: It's easy to pick up, play for thirty or so minutes, and put back down again.
