I have two questions: 1) do you get something for placing in the top three, or any other placement?; 2) sometimes I receive free credits in my game summary, but can't figure out why. For example, I just lost a round, but still earned 20 credits despite not opening a treasure chest or passing the credit marker on the xp line. Is there any other reason why I would receive free credits out of nowhere?

You will also receive credits for leveling up. The higher the level the more credits you get.
Hello, you get credits in chests sometimes. I've noticed since the new update the amount of credits received in 1 chest had improved significantly-at least in seasonal area. Anyways, yea-chests may contain credits.
To answer your 1st question: yes you do get something if you place in the top 3. You get more credits, experience, coins than if you don't place. AFTER 3rd place is filled, it's silly not to wait until about 10 (in a small room) and about 20 (in a room with 100+ or - a little either way) Bingos are left. Why? From 4th place down to last place you receive same prize for a bingo. If you bingo asap even though the top 3 is filled you could miss a chest you would've daubed, and in that chest might have been a super rare & hard to get item that you've been trying to get for weeks! So, yea. Once top 3 are filled relax & bingo closer to end. Just make sure you're watching the patterns towards the end of a round, as far as when the other people who are waiting to call bingo all start doing it at once & it ends in a rush.
During card discounts the rewards don't get discounted so it can really pay off if you have the great combo of placing in top 3 + an activated x2 power up. 36 credits can turn into 360 in a single round!
