Greetings, this is my first FAQ attempt. This FAQ will cover the basics of the
game mechanics, walkthrough of the game modes, and general to specific details 
on characters/assists. I have enjoyed DBZ: Extreme Butoden very much, but have
seen relatively little content for it. Hopefully, this FAQ helps people enjoy
and understand the game more. 

I plan on making specific character tutorial or analysis videos, as well as
match videos. I will post those on my channel on youtube. Please check out the

[1] Introduction
================
Dragon Ball Z Extreme Butoden is a 2D fighting game for the Nintendo 3DS. The
game features 25 playable characters with many more characters as support 
assists. The game features a story mode, a mission mode, tournament mode, 
local multiplayer versus, and StreetPass functionality. 

The gameplay mechanics are simple which allows players to learn to play the 
game quickly. Each character has the same movement options and input 
requirements for their respective attacks. However, each character’s design is
different enough that the characters play differently. The assists also add a 
layer of depth to the game.

Health - Orange bar at the top of the screen. Health is depleted as a 
character is hit by attacks. Can be regenerated by assists.

Guard Meter - Green bar located under the Health bar. Represents how many 
attacks you can take while Guarding. The bar depletes while a character is 
blocking attacks. If it is completely depleted, then the character is stunned 
momentarily. The bar regenerates after the character is no longer being 
attacked. 

Dragon Power Usage - Blue bar located below the Health bar. It is broken up 
into 7 segments. Each time an assist is called, the assist’s DP number is 
depleted from the 7 segments. The segments regenerate after the assist leaves 
the screen.

Spirit - Black and light blue bar at the bottom corner of the screen which 
represents the character’s Ki. Spirit is used to perform special and ultimate
attacks.

Awakened Mode - Allows the character to perform “Sparking” and “Dragon Soul.” 
Activates when character’s (or the team of characters’) total health drops 
below 50%.

Bottom Screen Characters and Assists
Characters and Assists on your team are displayed on the bottom 3DS screen.
Tap the character/assist icon to tag-in a character or to call an assist.

[2.2] Movement Controls

Up - Character jumps
Down - Character crouches
Right - Character moves forward (when opponent is to the right)
Left - Character moves backwards (when opponent is to the right)

Special Controls
Guard - Hold the direction opposite to your opponent; Guard can be performed
on the ground or in the air
Super Jump - Press Down, then Up consecutively; causes character to jump 
higher than usual
Double Jump - Press Up during a jump
Dash (Backdash) - Double Tap Right or Left to perform a Dash; can be performed
in the air.
Hyper Dash - Press Right + R (When the character is facing right); Uses 50% of
your spirit gauge
Z Cancel - Press Right + R (When the character is facing right); Uses 25% of
your spirit gauge. Can only be performed after a Z Combo.

[2.3] Button Attacks:

Y - Light Attack; Character performs a quick but weak attack. Can be performed
during a jump.
X - Strong Attack; Character performs a slow but damaging attack. Can be 
performed during a jump.
A - Special Action; Character performs a special action. Can be performed 
during a jump.
B - Emergency Evade; the character performs a dodge which makes it invincible 
to attacks.
    Perfect Dodge; the character performs a teleport that evades the 
opponent’s attack and leaves the opponent open to counter attack. Must press B 
right before the opponent’s attack hits; can be done consecutively. 
R - Charge Ki; Character powers up causing the spirit gauge to fill. Can only 
be performed while standing.
L - Used in combination with Y/X/A/B to perform special moves.

Special Moves:
Surprise Attack - L+Y
Character performs a short jump attack that hits characters that are crouch 
Guarding.

Blitz Attack - L+X
Character consumes 25% of spirit gauge to perform a special attack that has 
unique properties. The attack is unique to each character.

Sleeper Hold - L+A
Character consumes 50% of spirit gauge to perform a special attack that does 
more damage and has unique properties. The attack is unique to each character.

Sparking - L+B
Character performs a burst that pushes your opponent away. Can only be 
performed while awakened and while being attacked. Can only be performed once 
per battle.

Dragon Soul - L+B
Character gains electricity effect around their body. 
Increases the character’s damage output, decreases the damage the character 
takes, but the character’s life slowly drains down to 1HP.

[2.4] Chain Combos
-----------------------------
Chain Combos: 
Combos that are programmed into the game. They are performed by pressing the 
normal attacks in sequence. The sequence is listed within the “{ }” brackets. 

Strong Combo - {X.X} 
Character performs a combo using strong attacks. 
Hold down the second X button press to power up the attack; when fully charged 
the attack causes a wall bounce on hit or a guard break when opponent is 
Guarding.

Blast Combo - {X.A} 
Character performs a combo that starts with a strong attack and ends with an 
energy attack.

Z Combo - {Y.Y.X} (or {Y.X} while crouched)
Character performs a quick combo that launches the opponent into the air.
Character can perform a Z Cancel to continue to combo the opponent.


Super Combo - {Y.Y.A} (or {Y.A} while crouched)
Character performs a quick combo that ends by blasting the opponent away with 
an energy attack.

Neo Combo - {Y.Y.Y.Y.Y}
Character performs a long combo that sends the opponent flying towards the 
corner of the stage. It causes the opponent to bounce off the wall. 
Can continue to combo the opponent after the wall bounce.

Meteor Combo - {Y.Y.Y.Y.X}
Character performs a long combo that will cause a stage transition.
When performed on the Ground: Opponent is launched into the Air Stage. 
Character can continue to combo the opponent.
When performed in the Air Stage: Opponent is sent hurtling towards the ground.
Opponent recovers upon hitting the ground, and the combo ends.

Ultimate Combo - {Y.Y.Y.Y.X.A} Uses spirit gauge
Character performs a long combo that leads to a signature attack and a stage 
transition.
Can be performed while in the Ground or Air Stage.
100% Variant: Character consumes 100% of the your spirit gauge and performs a
signature attack. Can be countered by the 150% variant.
150% Variant: Character consumes 150% to counter the 100% Ultimate Combo. 
Performed by pressing {A} During your opponent’s Ultimate Combo. Triggers a 
beam clash mini-game; must button-tap faster than your opponent to win.
200% Variant: Character consumes 200% of your spirit gauge and performs a 
signature attack, that deals massive damage.

[3] Z Story Walkthrough

This mode is an arcade mode that has you play through the Dragonball Z story 
and “what if” stories. Each story consists of 10 battles against various CPU 
teams. Completing Dragon Team in Story mode unlocks Adventure Mode and Quest 
Mode.

[4] Adventure Mode Walkthrough
================
In this mode, you will play through multiple worlds with missions. Each 
mission will force you to battle a variety of team compositions and complete a
special requirement. By successfully completing each mission you will be 
rewarded with Zeni (in game currency) and you will unlock Assists. Each stage 
will give upto 3 rewards based on the ranking that you receive; S-Rank, 3 
rewards; A-Rank, 2 rewards; B-Rank, 1 reward.

[4.1] Ranking System
-----------------------------
After each mission, the battle will be ranked based on the quality of the 
battle. Rank is based on the total points accumulated.

S-Rank = 400-700 points + Complete Mission Objective 
A-Rank = 250-399 points
B-Rank = 1-249 points

Points are accumulated as follows:
Remaining Health: Every 1% of remaining health = 1 point
Time Bonus: Every 1 count of time that remains = 1 point
Rush Bonus: Get X points; X = highest combo. Max of 100 points
Technical Bonus: Get 10 points every time you call an assist. Max of 100 
points.
Special Bonus: Get 30 points every time you land an L+X/L+A attack. Max of 100 
points.
Ultimate Bonus: Get 50 points whenever you land an Ultimate Attack. Get an 
additional 50 points for performing an Ultimate counter. Max of 100 points.
Perfect: Win with 100% health = 100 points

[4.2] How to S-Rank every mission.
-----------------------------
-Equip the items “Regenerate,” “Energy Sponge,” and “Senzu Bean.” These items 
can be purchased in the item shop found in the Adventure Mode menu. 
  Regenerate passively recovers your Character’s HP. 
  Energy Sponge recovers your HP when you deal damage to your Opponent. 
  Senzu Bean will completely heal your Character when your HP drops down to  
  25%.
-Use a team made up of 1 point character and 4 assists. You can use any point 
character, but use the assist Gogeta (Super Saiyan 4), and any 3 other assists
(as long as the total DP for the 3 assists is under 7).
-Register your team in the Extras menu, so that you can select the team 
quickly.

Steps to take:
1- Right as the battle starts call all your assists except Gogeta. Charge Ki
while the assists attack the CPU.
2- When the assists are gone, call Gogeta (Super Saiyan 4), and start 
attacking the CPU. Make sure that the Gogeta assist lands its attack. This 
will get you a high Rush combo.
3- After you use Gogeta, call your other assists until you’ve called your 
assists 10 times overall.
4- Land at least 1 L+X/L+A attack -OR- at least 1 Ultimate Combo.
5- Complete the mission objective
6- Defeat the opponent.

By following the steps, you should end each mission with:
Remaining Health: 100 points (items will regenerate any health you lost)
Time Bonus: X (doesn’t matter, the other categories will rack up the points)
Rush Bonus: 100 points (for SSJ4 Gogeta landing its attack)
Technical Bonus: 100 point (for calling your assists 10 times overall)
Special Bonus: 30 points (for landing your L+X/L+A attack once)
Ultimate Bonus: 0 points (not worth doing because it eats up a lot of time)
Perfect: 100 points (your health will be at 100%, doesn’t matter whether you
took damage during the round)
Total: at least 430 points

[4.3] Adventure Mode Menu
-----------------------------
Press X while in any of the Adventure Mode worlds to access the menu. In the 
menu, you can view how much Zeni you have accumulated and spend it in the item
shop. You can also access Character Chart to view the relationship between the 
characters of the Dragonball universe. Or you can return to the world select 
screen.

[4.3.1] Items
-----------------------------
You can equip up to 3 items at once that will help you in your battles in 
Adventure Mode. Items grant special abilities that activate during battle. 
Some items disappear after being used once, while others last in between 
battles. Items can be purchased in the Item Shop or Acquired through Quest 
Mode from Shenron.

Untold Energy    ||  1500  || Increases the number of times you can use    
                              Sparking.

Compete against local players. Create a room that others can join or search 
for other players nearby. When you create a room, you can set a limit on the
amount of Dragon Power that can be used to compose teams, and the time limit
for each battle.

[8] Quest Mode
================
Quest Mode allows you to collect dragonballs whenever you StreetPass with 
another Dragonball Z: Extreme Butoden player. You collect one dragonball for 
each StreetPass. Once all seven dragonballs are collected, you can summon 
Shenron. Shenron will grant one randomly selected item. 

Once Shenron grants a random item, he disappears along with the dragonballs.
You must then collect all 7 dragonballs again. However, you can exploit the 
mechanic to avoid losing all 7 dragonballs. Once Shenron grants a random item,
the item and its description will be displayed on the 3DS bottom screen. You 
can hit the “Home” menu on your 3DS while the item is displayed close the 
game. Open Extreme Butoden again and you’ll find that you still have 6 
dragonballs. This allows you to roll again for the item you want from Shenron
without having to collect 7 StreetPasses. Note; that you do not retain the 
item that was granted by Shenron when you soft reset.

Teams can consist of Assists. The assists are called by tapping their icon on
the bottom 3DS screen. Multiple assists may be called simultaneously. In order 
to call multiple assists, the total Dragon Power of the assists called must 
not exceed a total of 7. Once an assist is called, it will appear in the 
battle, perform an action, then disappear. Each assist has a cooldown period 
where they cannot be called for a some period of time after they disappear; 
cooldown time varies among each assist.
