Buy Every Ability
There is enough Quills in each World to buy all of the abilities on offer there and you will discover that you will need every one of them at one point or another during the game. Therefore make sure you buy all the abilities before you move on to the next world otherwise you will regret having to return there later in the game to unlock one you left behind.
Where to Find the Play Coins for the Arcade Machine
In order to play the arcade machine found in every World that is manned by Rextro the dinosaur you must first find that world's Play Coin which is hidden somewhere in the level. Don't venture off on a lengthy search as the Play Coin is always found in close proximity of the arcade machine. If you check for hidden routes above and below in the area you shouldn't have any problem finding the Play Coin. Once you have it you will have two chances to win a Pagie from each one (one for winning the game at hand and one for beating the high score).
Unlock Abilities in Order
Although you can unlock the additional abilities and upgrades in any order you want it is recommended that you pick them up in the order they become available as their necessity in challenges crops up around the same time they appear in the shop. Doing this will keep the game straightforward and won't complicate things.
Know How to Use the Butt-Laser
Make sure you know how the butt-laser works in Yooka-Laylee as you will need to redirect beams of light for various purposes, these include melting ice and activating switches.
In order to use the butt-laser you use the invisibility ability and manoeuver yourself into a patch of concentrated light or the path of a laser. Once in position you need to crouch so you refract a beam through your body and out your ass. At which point you turn on the spot and redirect it for your intended purpose.
Complete Impossible Challenges Later
There will be instances in Yooka-Laylee where there will be challenges that appear to have objectives that are impossible to complete. Instead of repeatedly trying to find a way to complete a task or pass an obstacle you should leave it for the time being and continue as it is more than likely that you will need to have a special ability which you don't know exists yet in order to complete the challenge. Don't waste time, return to the challenge later when you are better equipped with higher level abilities.
