Swing Basics Guide

The video below breaks down the basics of the swing mechanics in The Golf Club 2019 to help you understand how to read the shot feedback meter and how to better manipulate your shots.

Swing Tempo:

Fast Backswing = Accuracy Penalty

Slow Backswing = Power Penalty

Fast Downswing = Draw / Hook

Slow Downswing = Fade / Slice

Swing Plane:

Left = Pull (right-handed) | Push (left-handed)

Right = Push (Right-handed) | Pull (left-handed)

Swing Difficulty:

Club set, surface type, lie angle, and shot type all impact the difficulty of a shot.

Partial Swings:

A partial backswing will reduce the carry distance of your shot. Be sure to reduce your swing tempo accordingly.

Pay Attention to Ball Lie

Whether you are trying to hit the ball out of the fairway, heavy rough, light rough, sand or even the cart path it is essential that you always pay close attention to how it your ball's lie will effect your shot.

If you look at the pecentage in the top right corner and then multiply it with your club's expected carrying distance you will be able to determine the sort of distance your shot will reach. It is important to remember that different types of clubs face varying levels of adversity on different surfaces.

Customize your Golf Bag

Different player styles and courses will determine what combination of clubs you need to use. If you are new to The Golf Club 2019 it is recommended that stick to Beginner Clubs as they are more forgiving than the Pro and Master clubs.

You can carry 14 clubs including a putter and you should experiment with the different irons, hybrids, and woods available in order to get the best ones for your playstyle. You can customize your golf bag by clicking on the 'Edit Golfer' tab in the main menu.

Taking Shots on Slopes

Make sure you always take into account the slopes on greens, even if they are not indicated with yellow or red gridlines as underestimating them can be the difference between a great or poor final score.

When you do encounter gridlined slopes on the course it is essential that you make the adjustment in power accordingly, whether it's a more powerful stroke to go up a red-labeled slope or a slight tap if it is a slope going downhill.

Check your Clubs

You are not always given the best-possible club and told the ideal shot type for each hole like in previous games in the PGA Tour 2K series so it is essential that you always check the club and shot type you are 'given' before each stroke in order to determine whether or not you have been given the best options.

Add Ghost Players as a Guide

The Golf Club 2019 has a feature that enables you to add a ghost player to accompany your golfer through each hole of your round on a course. You are able to select the ghost player through a leaderboard from players who have completed the course with various scores.

It is recommended that you take advantage of this feature as it allows you to watch the trajectory and landing points of ghosts' shots which will give you some idea as to what is the best way to approach each of the holes. It is also possible to set your own past performance on the course as a ghost player in order to determine how much improvement you have made over time.
