Although you can start completing the side quests that are known collectively as Paris stories from the start of the game it is advised that you avoid them until you become a fully fledged assassin because without the assassin skills, weapons, and abilities you will find them difficult. Also, once you become an assassin you will be able to earn Experience and Creed Points as well as cash when you play the side quests.
Take advantage of the poison tipped darts you can fire from your wrist-mounted crossbow that cause whoever they hit to attack the nearest NPC when you are in an area crowded with enemies. The best tactic is to aim for the biggest or most skill fighters which you should be able to distinguish by the clothes they are wearing and let them fight your battles.
Consider becoming a locksmith early in the game as doing so will enable you to avoid hunting down the NPC harbouring the keys to unlock windows and doors in the missions that are set in buildings. Being a locksmith also enables you to unlock chests that contain large amounts of cash and weapons that are off-limits to players that do not choose the lockpicking skill.
Early in the game you will be able to get away with a full frontal assault with your pistol in one hand and sword in the other but as you progress you find that moving stealthily through assassination missions is the only way you will succeed. With this in mind it is advised that you unlock a couple of the stealth skills in the game’s talent trees as soon as you can.
The city of Paris where this game take place is huge so it is advised that you open the game's Eagle View Points as soon as possible. Doing so will not only open up the map and show you where all the activities and trinkets are but also provide a fast-travel option across the city which will cut down on travelling time.
