Metro Exodus is a first-person open-world subterranean survival-horror game which picks up two years after the events of Metro: Last Light. In Metro Exodus, Artyom, his wife Ana, and a crew of surving Spartan Rangers led by Colonel Miller must flee the shattered ruins of the Moscow Metro and embark on an epic, continent-spanning journey across the post-apocalyptic Russian wilderness.

Walkthrough, Guide, Strategy

Read the Journal

You will recieve a map from Colonel Miller when you first exit the Aurora. This map is automatically updated with your primary objective and a few optional ones. If you turn the map over you will find that hidden on the back is Artyom's journal, this is also updated regularly and the journal entries will give you more information about your next location as well as other useful circumstances about the mission and how you should approach it. Make sure you read this journal before every big mission.

Use your Binoculars

When you enter the icy Volga you will find the engineer named Krest, who will give you a pair of binoculars that you can use to scope whatever lies ahead. This is particularly useful for confirming enemy locations so you can mark it on your map. If you hear a click when using the binoculars to scan your surroundings it is to indicate you have found an optional objective and a question mark will automatically appear on your map.

Craft the Compass

Once you have found Kress holed up in the crane overlooking a mutant-infested warehouse you will be able to make a compass on the crafting bench that is in his abode. This compass is attached to a brace on Artyom’s left arm and it points you in the direction of your main objective.

Changing Time of Day

You can jump between day and night by sleeping in the beds that can be found in various safehouses. This will allow you to choose the time of day to suit your next objective. If for example you need to trek through open territory it is best to make it a daytime journey as mutants tend to be more active at night and you will be able to see where you are going and what is coming your way. If on the other hand you need to infiltrate a bandit camp you will be better resting until nightfall so you can then use the cover of darkness to your advantage.

Tihkar Rifle

Always make sure you keep the pump and ammo of the Tihkar Rifle topped off. More commonly known as the Air Gun, the Tikhar Rifle has been cobbled together using spare parts and duct tape. What it lacks in polish it more than makes up for in effectiveness and usefulness. It is the only weapon in your inventory that you can craft ammo for on the go and the steel balls it shoots are relatively cheap to craft.

NPCs

Not all of the people you encounter in the wastes are hostile so before you open fire you should look at your reticle to see if they are enemies (red reticle), friendlies (green reticle), or neutral (yellow reticle). If they are friendlies or neutral a simple show of peace to let them know you are not looking for a fight is to holster your weapon before approching them.

Early Suit Upgrades

As you progress through the game you will naturally acquire upgrades for your weapons and attachments. Three of the most impactful upgrades you can get are for your suit and you can get those in the first area, the Volga.

• Enhanced Flashlight Battery:

Found in a shed next to the safehouse northeast of Krest. The safehouse is on a tiny island surrounded by mostly shallow water.

• Metal Detector:

Found in a small house in the southeast corner near a broken crane. Look to the west of where you find the teddy.

• Night Vision Goggles:

Found in the final room of the Tsar Fish's warehouse.

It is advised that you pick these up before you head to the Caspian Sea. Check out our Where are the Equipment Upgrades to learn the location of all the suit upgrades.

Weapon Silencer

Gunshots will attract every mutant and bandit in earshot so you cannot overstate the importance of having a suppressor fitted to your weapons whenever possible to muffle the sound of the shots. You will find that most weapons, including shotguns can have a silencer fitted to them so make sure you check for one at your crafting bench.

Armoured Bandits

Don't waste ammunition shooting at fully amoured bandits. The most effective way to take them out is to shoot the back of their kneecaps out with a shotgun. You will not be able stealth kill them but you will be able to sneak up behind them to get to their legs.
