Research Credits: Basic Armor Tech

Latest update by CMBF on May 14th 2013
“Although gruesome and seemingly hobbled together, the Floater does have significantly better armor plating that anything currently available to our forces. Having completed the interrogation process on the subject, we've come to understand how this armor balances flexibility, weight, and damage reduction to suit the Floater's "unique" capabilities. With that in mind, we should be able to reduce the time to research initial armor prototypes.”

The Basic Armor research line takes into account the fundamental approach to adapting alien armor technologies for our use, following the KISS principles by focusing upon the cruder and more simple forms in use by the Floaters in order to use a greater understanding of that technology as a springboard towards adapting the more advanced forms of armor to our own uses.

Carapace Armor:We've continued our experiments on the alien alloys, and one of the proposed applications is a lighter, stronger form of body armor. Our early tests are very encouraging.

Our primary focus for the initial approach to reverse engineering this armor technology begins with the completion of the Alien Materials Research Project. Utilizing the knowledge that was gained from that to form a more complete understanding of the creation process for the Alloy materials that we have been recovering from the crash sites and through encounters with invading alien units, we have obtained a full understanding of the Alloy materials, and how we can utilize them through re-purposing to make armor for our troopers.

The completion of the prototyping for the Carapace Armor requires the following materials:

  • x10 Alloy from our inventory.

Completing the prototyped armor results in unlocking the Skeleton Suit and the Titan Armor research projects. In addition, completion of the Prototyped Carapace Armor adds Carapace Armor to the Engineering Workshop Catalog.

In addition to unlocking Carapace Armor as a selection in the catalog, the completed prototype also unlocks the Alloy S.H.I.V. thanks to the now complete scientific understanding of the alien Alloy.

Skeleton Suit:Although the weight of this suit has been substantially reduced, its defensive capabilities are still intact...and the reduced weight has allowed us to couple the suit with the climbing grapple we've been prototyping.

The creation of the prototyped Skeleton Armor requires as a prerequisite the completion of the Carapace Armor Research Project and the creation of the a Prototyped Carapace Armor. Once that prerequisite has been met, a prototyped sample of the Skeleton Armor can be created subject to the use of the following resources:

  • x15 Alloy from our inventory.

The completion of the prototyped Skeleton Suit results in unlocking the Skeleton Suit Armor from the Engineering Workshop Catalog.
