A basic rule of thumb for life is that ninjas freaking rule. It's just one
of those things that can't be argued -- like how the sky is blue, or that
John Cena doesn't know how to wrestle. So when you take a video game based
around use of stealth and awesome kills, giving you control of a ninja and
all sorts of cool items it's no surprise that the game is good. However,
until now the Tenchu games have all been kind of missing something. It's
hard to say exactly what it was. Whatever it was has been fixed with Tenchu
Z. The story is kind of weak, but the gameplay is easily the best of the
series. And giving you 50 missions of assasination, item recovery, or other
such activities, it is also a rather long game.

Now it may not be the hardest game around, but sureley some people will
have trouble -- if only just looking for the location of the 50 Tomikichis
in the game to get those last few achievements. Whatever your reason for
looking at this guide, you should find an answer to your query. Note, that
all level guides are based on gameplay found in the Normal difficulty.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Antidote
Type: Healing
Description: Drink to heal poison.
Price: 50
Notes: It's useful I guess, but you can get the Venom ability so early
on in the game, which prevents poison completely, that it doesn't seem
worth having.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Blinding
Type: Escape
Description: Throw at enemy to inflict temporary blindness.
Price: 100
Notes: You can attack an enemy with this item when confronted in melee
combat to slow them down, but honestly, if you're in melee combat with a
regular enemy you should be running so you can get a stealth kill later,
and this just isn't effective on bosses anyway. Pass on it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Blowgun
Type: Ranged
Description: Defeat enemies with a single hit.
Price: 300
Notes: Now this thing is the real deal -- a must-buy! It does exactly as
it says it does, in killing enemies with one hit. It doesn't matter where
you hit them, any contact will cause them to become dizzy for a few seconds
and then fall dead. Combined with the Ultimate Arts, Eyes 1, 2, or 3, you
will be able to take out enemies from a great distance. These are always
a good decision to carry around with you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Bone
Type: Capture
Description: Summon a dog to distract enemies.
Price: 300
Notes: This one is very ammusing. You'll summon a dog which will run by,
diverting enemies attention. The dog isn't particularly smart, and will
often run into walls and what not. But enemies will turn, allowing you to
get by. Humorously, in a fight, the dog will attack your enemies, albeit
not very effectively. This item is fun, but not very effective.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: B Sword
Type: Special
Description: Makes it harder for enemies to spot you with your weapon drawn.
Price: 2500
Notes: The B Sword is extremely useful. I mean just having it in your
inventory makes it harder for you to be spotted. There's no downside to
having it at all. Equip it as soon as possible.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Burst Arrow
Type: Ranged
Description: Attack with a flaming arrow.
Price: 300
Notes: I'm not sure I'd waste an item slot on this, but it's not horrible
once you realize what it's used for; Don't go attacking enemies with it.
Instead, fire it off in the direction you want a standing enemy to look,
and when it strikes the ground or a wall, he'll turn to face it. This can
allow you to sneak past him. If there's only one, however, it's probably
best to go for a stealth kill anyway. This will appeal to the guard's
sense of Sight rather than their sense of smell (like the item, Stink).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Burst Box
Type: Explosive
Description: Fires small steel balls at enemies within range.
Price: 200
Notes: This is pretty much the exact same thing as a mine. So to reiterate:
Place it by pressing LB and if an enemy steps near it, they'll be an
explosion. Be careful though, because the same can be said about you. This
will generally put you into alarm status, but as long as you hide, it won't
be too bad. Stealth kills usually trump the use of this item though.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Caltrops
Type: Escape
Description: Spread on ground to stop advancing enemy.
Price: 60
Notes: Spread these on the ground by pressing LB and if an enemy steps on
them he'll go into a humorous hopping animation giving you a chance to run.
It's almost useless, in most situations though; Running away isn't hard.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: C-Rice
Type: Special
Description: Use to mark your trail.
Price: 50
Notes: Umm... I'm not sure what to say. This is about as useful as a
sandbox in the desert. Use it to mark your map. Ok.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Dazzle
Type: Confusion
Description: Creates a bright flash that temporarily stops enemy.
Price: 120
Notes: I wouldn't suggest filling your inventory with these, but maybe one
would come in handy. Using it will cause your enemy to be blinded for
several seconds. This is not enough to do anything on its own -- not even
enough time for you to run, really. However if your status indicates that
the guard hears, sees, or smells you, and you are real close to him, using
Dazzle will cause the status to change to alert. If you are really quick,
you can then get a stealth kill in, despite the alert status. Assuming
no other guards are around to see it, this will effectively keep you from
going into alarm status. It's a pretty specific situation, but it does
occur from time to time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Decoy
Type: Special
Description: Mimic an animal's call to fool enemies.
Price: 300
Notes: Use the item with LB and you'll make an animal sound. The usage
behind this, is if you are in alert status (signified by a blue icon) due
to an enemy finding a body, or you making noise, then using this item
will cause you to revert back to regular status.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Disguise
Type: Ninja
Description: You can describe yourself as the enemy you defeated.
Price: 400
Notes: This is kind of cool, but it needs some explaining. Basically you
have to kill an enemy (stealth kill works best) and then immediately use
the item. You'll then take the shape of the enemy you killed. In this form
you will be completely safe in walking past other enemies. The only problem
is that you can't draw your weapon when in this state. So if you have
enough points for a Ninja Rank 5 already, then by all means use it and
bolt for the goal. But if not, maybe consider using Vanishing instead.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Dragon
Type: Ninja
Description: Blow flames toward your enemies.
Price: 300
Notes: This is about as useful as a grenade in melee combat, but far, far
cooler! You freaking breath fire! You won't use this all that often, but
it's definitely a good choice for the forced battles -- particularly the
final one. It's extremely fulfilling to finish the final boss with a burst
of flame from your stomach!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Fireworks
Type: Escape
Description: Distracts enemies by making them look up.
Price: 200
Notes: There are worse items in the game, but the limited range of these
make them far from the best. If you can get it real close to a couple of
humans who are together, you should be able to get in two stealth kills
though. Simply press LB to place them, and then roll away. They blast off
on their own a few seconds later.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Grenade
Type: Explosive
Description: Explodes and damages enemy.
Price: 100
Notes: Grenades are no joke when it comes to battles. It's definitely a
better choice to stealth kill regular enemies, but in the missions with
mandatory battles (17 and 50) they are incredibly useful. They're simple
to use; Press LB to toss one while an enemy is targeted (hold RT to lock
on a target) and you'll hit them with the grenade, causing it to explode
and deal some good damage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Healing
Type: Healing
Description: Drink to heal wounds.
Price: 100
Notes: This will completely restore your health. It's always good to have
one in the inventory just in case, and in missions when there is a boss
battle, I like to toss in several. The benefits are great, and there's no
downside at all. Just make sure to be safe out of harm's way when you
actually use the item, because while you do you'll be vulnerable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Hook
Type: Special
Description: Use to temporarily cling to walls.
Price: 2000
Notes: The hook reaks of awesomeness! You don't actually have to use it
by selecting it. How it works, is simply having it equipped to your
inventory gives you the ability to cling to walls by pressing RB while
jumping near one. This can help you hide from enemies in some cases, but
in all honestly it's just really cool. It's a personal favorite of mine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Mine
Type: Explosive
Description: Explodes when stepped on.
Price: 150
Notes: These are pretty blunt; Place one with LB and if an enemy steps on
it, boom. This one isn't really very good though. Stick with stealth kills.
Also, be careful not to step on the item yourself.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Paralyze
Type: Capture
Description: Paralyze unconsious or sleeping enemies.
Price: 100
Notes: In areas with many innocents (such as many of the restauraunt
missions) this is very useful. You'll be penalized for killing innocents,
but if you grapple them and press B to knock them out, and then use this
item to really put them out, they should leave you alone for a good while.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Paralysis Cake
Type: Escape
Description: Enemies who eat this are poisoned for a certain time.
Price: 80
Notes: Don't even waste yout time. If an enemy eats this, yes they will be
poisoned, and they'll lose some health. But it won't kill them, it won't
knock them out, and it won't stop them from patrolling. So what is it good
for? That question beats the hell out of me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Pinwheel
Type: Explosive
Description: Throw at enemy, then press LS to explode.
Price: 250
Notes: These are fun items, and due to you not having grenades at the time,
useful for the boss fight in mission 17. You aim them like a shuriken by
pressing the right stick, aiming, and then pressing LB to throw. If it hits
an enemy it will remain lodged in them until you press the left stick. It
will draw attention if used on an enemy in a crowded area, obviously.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Purifying
Type: Healing
Description: Drink to wash smells from body.
Price: 50
Notes: This item sounds good in theory, but as you play the game you'll
notice just how little smell comes into play. You may want to keep one
handy, but in most cases enemies will not be alerted by your smell to begin
with, and if they do, you can usually just sneak up on them and Stealth
Kill them anyway as soon as the status color changes for a second.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Shadows
Type: Ninja
Description: Temporarily bind several enemies in place.
Price: 400
Notes: Shadows definitely have their uses. You use it by sneaking up on
an enemy as if you were going for a stealth kill, and then just press LB
to quickly paralyze them. In this state they can not fight back, call for
help or run. It's useful to use this on an enemy if he is close to another
because the animation for this is shorter than that of a stealth kill. What
you would do is paralyze one enemy, then quickly stealth kill the second,
before going back to stealth kill the first. Because when an enemy is binded
you can stealth kill them even when they're looking right at you!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Shuriken
Type: Ranged
Description: A deadly thrown weapon.
Price: 50
Notes: The description is highly misleading in exactly how "deadly" this
weapon is. Having a few around can be handy in case you want to take out
a guard dog, but as far as actual guards go, it will only bring trouble; It
will take more than one hit to kill them, but they'll go into alert mode
after being hit once. All-in-all, not a great weapon. To use them press the
right stick in, aim, and throw them by pressing LB. Note that if you have
the skill Shuriken 3, all this changes and the Shuriken becomes awesome.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Smoke
Type: Confusion
Description: Conceals you from enemy.
Price: 100
Notes: This item drops to the ground, and some smoke comes out. If it
touches an enemy they'll clutch their eyes and be effectively stopped for
a moment; But if you go to perform a stealth kill you'll go into the same
state of helplessness. I honestly can't see a single reason to ever want
to use this horrible item. The description has nothing to do with the
actual usage of the item.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: S-Shuriken
Type: Ranged
Description: Throw eight shurikens at once.
Price: 150
Notes: Almost completely useless, this allows you to throw eight Shurikens
at once. This could sound very useful, until you realize that you can not
actually aim them; They just go off in eight different directions in front
of you. Like the regular Shurikens, they are not strong enough to kill
humans in one hit, and I somehow doubt you'll ever be attacked by eight
dogs at the same time, all from different directions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Stink
Type: Confusion
Description: Throw to release a smell that lures your enemies.
Price: 100
Notes: This item does have it's uses. Toss it into the path of a patrolling
human, and it will appeal to his sense of smell. He'll stop his patrolling
and remain near the item for a moment. This can give you a chance to get
behind him for a stealth kill. After the smell wears off, however, he'll
often run off into a seemingly random direction. This can be a good way
for you to either sneak by him and do what you were trying to do, or chase
after him for a better opportunity for a stealth kill (for example, you
might have felt that he was too close to anotehr guard on his original
patrol route.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Trap
Type: Capture
Description: Entraps enemies temporarily.
Price: 150
Notes: The Trap is very similar in theory to the Caltrops, but it is
decidedly more brutal -- it's a bear trap! Place it with LB and if an
enemy is unfortunate enough to wander ontop of it, they'll be entrapped.
Like always, stealth killing is a wiser decision, however.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Wasps
Type: Confusion
Description: Throw to release wasps that attack your enemies.
Price: 150
Notes: If you're ever being attacked, and you want to make a run for it,
the Wasps will help you do it, guaranteed. Toss them down, and within
seconds the insects will be buzzing about causing any chaarcter they touch
to begin dancing in place unable to move. You'll be able to make your exit,
but be careful because the Wasps can affect you as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item: Vanishing
Type: Ninja
Description: Vanish with an explosion.
Price: 400
Notes: Right here -- this is it. This is the definitive stealth item of
choice. Use it, and boom. You'll become invisible! Not onlt that, you'll
still be able to draw your sword and stealth kill! Just be careful of
the limitations. It wears off after a certain amount of time, and if you
just rush in and attack someone while invisible, the effect will wear off.
Still, this is easily one of the best items in the game, rivaled by the
Blowdart.

~= You are a Ninja, Not Terminator =~
-------------------------------------
One problem that people make when approaching a game like Tenchu, is trying
to go at it the same way as if it were Ninja Gaiden. Tenchu is not Ninja
Gaiden. You aren't an all around asskicker in Tenchu -- well you're a Ninja,
so I suppose by definition you ARE an asskicker, let's just say trying to
rambo through the game will not spell out success for you; And even if you
are able to run past enemies and just make a mad dash for the goal of a
level, you will not get a good rank, and frankly you will not have much fun.
Instead, you have to incorporate stealth, patience, and strategy into your
actions. Try and obtain stealth kills on all enemies that you can. Try and
move across the rooftops when possible, and drop in for your kills. Taking
advantage of your items is also a viable strategy; A blowdart can instantly
kill an enemy. If a particular enemy is in your way and you think it may
prove difficult to get close, just land a dart in him from across the area.
Basically, just use your mind, because brute force just isn't enough.

~= That's How I Roll! =~
------------------------
Running around is sure to get you seen, or heard; And running up behind
people in order to get close for a stealth kill is virtually impossible.
And walking while crouching is simply too slow to be of much use. The solution
to this dilemma is to roll around. Hold RB, move the Left Stick, and press A
to roll. You can roll in all directions. It's fast enough to make moving
around very simple, and silent enough to allow you to get right behind an
enemy -- actually touching them -- before they notice you. It will seem weird
at first, but after a few missions it will become second nature to you. You
probably won't even be using the wall clinging to move around anymore; You'll
just rolling along near a wall. Not only that, but if you roll off of a roof
you'll land far more quietly than you would have if you had jumped. Simply
put, rolling is the most efficient method of movement around.

~= Know Thine Enemy =~
----------------------
Enemies in Tenchu Z are not the smartest or most dynamic enemies to be found.
Once they've spotted you, rest assured that they'll come after you. However,
until that time they have a set path and course of actions. Some will stand
in place, turning to face a new direction every so often. Some will stroll
all about an area. However deep their course of action seems, though, it is
indeed a looped course. So if you find a perch such as a rooftop and watch
carefully, you can deduce exactly what their path is. And then when you get
a chance you can move in for the kill at the most opportune moment. There
are a few additional aspects worth mentioning, however. One are enemies that
appear to be conversing with one another. If you never get close, they'll
have their conversation forever. However, if you can get in close, where
they can't see you -- again waiting on a ledge above works well -- you will
actually hear an exchange of words. When they finish talking they will
actually separate, with either one or both walking away. They will then
turn to a set path like all other enemies. Finally, keep in mind that you
can see shadows of an enemy walking around inside of a room in many cases.
Use this to your advantage; Watch the path that the shadow moves around on
the wall. If it gets really close to a door you can actually perform a special
stealth kill. You'll puncture the door with the sword, and cause them to die
and have their body knock the door down!

~= They May Suck, But Don't Kill Them =~
----------------------------------------
Throughout the game you're going to encounter many annoying citizens, who
are technically innocent. They're extremely irritating, because when they
see you they'll go into alert mode, and they like to roam around areas just
like enemies. However, not only can you not stealth kill them, if you kill
them in a regular fight you'll lose 300 points for your mission score; So
if you are going for Ninja 5 Ranks, this is not a good idea. The best thing
you can do is just stay away from them whenever possible, and when you can't
hide: On a roof, under a building, behind a corner. It doesn't matter. If
your sword is away grapple them and press the B button to knock them out; They
will get back up later, but it should give you enough time to get by. Even
if you do get caught, don't fight them. Instead run until your alarm status
disappears. You can make up the 80 odd points from a detection with one extra
stealth kill. It will be a lot harder (or in some levels impossible) to make
up for the 300 points deducted due to killing one of them.

~= Long Jump For The Win =~
---------------------------
Holding LT and pressing the A button will allow you to do a jump that gets
you further and higher than a regular jump. Not only that, you're landing
will be "guided", in that you'll get a sort of "cling" effect. If you land
close to the top of a ledge for example, you'll find that you land squarely,
even if the ledge is small. Not only that, you're landings are always
silent. This is the best way to get from roof to roof, and is also an
extremely good way to get to enemies from these roofs, or from the ground if
they are on a platform above you. If you can actually land on the enemy with
a jump and you press X just as you land, you can even perform a stealth
kill from mid air. Very useful stuff indeed.

~= Mission 01: Path of the Ninja =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Merchant's Manor
Requirements: Assassinate Rokube Echigoya
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Take a left right at the start of the mission, and remain agaisnt the
wall, making your way to the corner. Remain crouched as you look around
the corner. You'll see the first of the game's fifty Tomikichi walking back
and forth over there. Wait for him to get close to the corner, and then
when he turns his back to you roll around and stealth kill him. Once he
falls, take out your Tetsubishi (grappling hook) and grapple to the top of
the wall surrounding the main compound. Slowly crouch-walk along this wall
in the direction the Tomikichi was walking, so that you are parallel to a
building on your right. There should be a man walking down on the ground
next to the building. Wait for the proper moment, then drop down and kill
him. After he's gone, turn around and head back in the direction you were
coming from, but along the ground. When you reach the corner of the building
stay there, pressed against the wall. There's another guard patrolling
around the yard that will eventually get close to you. When he does, it's
another stealth kill.

Use your Tetsubishi to get to the roof of the house you are next to. Roll
over to the northern section of the roof and look at the yard below. There
will be a guard with a lantern wandering about. Wait until he stops, and
then roll off of the roof to the ground below. Quickly roll up behind him
before he turns around again, and kill him. If a guard hears you, quickly
grapple back to one of the roofs, and when he arrives, kill drop down on
top of him for the kill. If not, just grapple to the second roof, and look
for a small hole that leads inside. Crawl through, and you'll be in the
ceiling space inside the manor. Crawl to the hole in the floor farthest
from the entrance, and look down. You'll see a man standing there. Wait for
him to turn, drop down, and impale him. From there, take a left out of the
room, and wait on the sides of the doorway leading onto a wooden bridge
of sorts.

The house across the wooden planks contains Rokube, whom you have to kill.
However there are still guards outside so you'll have to be careful. Wait
at the doorway for a man wearing a straw hat, patrolling on the right to
turn his back to you, and when he does roll up to him and kill him. Now
further to the right you'll find another man walking around with a lantern
if you follow him carefully until you get an opening you can stealth kill
him, but you shouldn't have to. You shouldn't have to in order to have
enough points for a Ninja 5 Rank if you haven't been detected, and assuming
you take out Rokube without problems. Anyway, make your way back to the
house you just came from, and wait for the guard to the left of the wooden
planks to turn. When he does, roll up to him and get the stealth kill.
After that Rokube will be the only one left. Put away your sword and open
the door to his room, then immediately roll away. If you're in alert status
just wait to the side of his room until it goes away. Either way, once the
door is open and you are in normal status, wait by the side of the door
looking in, until he turns around. Roll and and assassinate him, and the
mission is over.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
~= Mission 02: Before the Wind Blows =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Restaurant
Requirements: Assassinate Izaemon Kimura
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Start by jumping onto the ledge in front of you. From there, begin making
your way around the outside of the compound, killing any humans there. You
can climb onto the outer wall and get a look on the yard inside, as well.
You should see a few guys with lanterns walking around there, that you
can stealth kill -- Long jump to them and try and get them from mid-air,
before running back to the outer wall and scoping out your next target.
Eventually, you'll find the Tomikichi on the outside of the wall standing
next to a few creates. Make the kill, then hop the fence again, and kill
the man with the lantern that is patrolling about the small house that's
there. Pull him back into the back of the house so that no one sees him,
and get ready to kill the next guy that walks by the front of the house.

Across a thin wooden fence on your right is a building with a wooden
platform surrounding it. Approach it carefully; There's a mean walking
around on it that you can kill, but make sure to get him when he's in the
back of the building, because there's another guy patrolling on the ground
to the right of the building that will see or hear you if you kill the
first guy while too close to him. Take out both of these guys, then move
to the front of the house, and wait in front of the door until a shadow
passes by. You can get a stealth kill right throuh the door for a cool
effect here. Do it, then jump to the ground and roll around to the right
side of the larger building. There's an entrance over there.

Stay against the wall as you peer into the building. There's a guard walking
inside, so wait for him to turn, then long jump inside and roll behind him
for the stealth kill. Make sure not to get seen by the woman in the room
on the right of the hall though; You can't kill her without losing points,
so it's best to just avoid her altogether. The guard in the room on the
left, on the other hand, is fair game. Just wait for him to turn his back
to the door, roll in, roll out, and he's gone. With these guys out of the
way, moe to the end of the hall. You should see a door with the silhouette
of a dancing man. There are two guards in there, that you can kill, but it
is kind of risky, and not necessary. Just roll around the corner to the
left and kill the patrolling guard, then continue onward.

You'll find another man wandering in the hall, but he's easy enough to
sneak up to and kill. The real challenge lies in two guards talking just
around the corner at the end of the hall. Wait at the corner until they
finish their conversation, and as soon as they turn around from eachother,
be quick to get a stealth kill on the one on the left. You can then take out
the one on the right immediately, and you shouldn't be seen. After that
simply move up to the screen door on your left, and wait for a shadow to
pass. The shadow is of your target, so wait for the stealth kill ring to
appear, and then take the bastard out to finish the mission.

~= Mission 03: Recover the Bombs =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Residential District
Requirements: Recover 10 bombs
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

You can press select at any time to view the map. Bombs will be marked
with stars. From the start, head up the ramp on your right, then at the
top roll around the fence on the left. In the corner you'll find the first
of ten bombs. After collecting it, jump back down to the bottom of the ramp,
and climb up to the ledge on your right. Make your way around the back of
the house, and then to the right side of it. You'll find the second bomb on
the ground next to a pile of logs. Now climb to the top of the building on
your right and take a look out. You should see a few guards in the area.
Jump from roof top to rooftop, and wait for them to separate. You should be
able to jump down on one as he passes between the leather racks. The second
will then be easy pickings for you as he makes his way over towards where
the first bobm was. Sneak up on him and drop him with a stealth kill. With
them out of the way, take a look at your map. The next closest bomb is to
the right of where you saw the two guards. Grab it, then quickly get to a
roof, and wait for another man to walk by. When he does, jump down and
take him out.

The fourth bomb will be completely in the open on the left side of the
area, on the ground behind a wooden fence. Pick it up, then take to the
roofs again. Make your way towards the opposite side of the area (the right
side) and you should be able to clearly see the fifth bomb on the ground.
Wait for the man patrolling the area to get below the roof you are on,
drop down and kill him, then collect the fifth bomb. Again head to the
roofs, and from there make your way north towards the bridge. Drop down and
kill the guard standing there, but then quickly roll over to the left and
hide behind a wall; Someone will likely quickly spot the body, putting you
in alarm status. Wait for the status to clear then just quickly head back
to the bridge, roll up behind the guy that was searching, and kill him.
You can then just pick up the sixth bomb from the left of the dumpster
adjacent to the wall attached to the bridge (in other words: on your left.)
After doing that, carefully make your way across the bridge, and peer
around the left corner. A tomikichi is walking over there. Wait for him
to turn around, and then make the kill. The seventh bomb is to the right
of the bridge, just around that corner.

Wait by the location of the seventh bomb, looking under the elevated
building in the center of the area, until you see a man's feet pass. When
this happens, roll under the building and wait for the man to pass between
two of the other buildings. That's where you should kill him. After doing
that, the eight bomb will be just to your right. Once you have it head
back to where you killed the tomikichi and jump to a roof. JUmp to the
next roof to the north, and look down. You should see a guard walking about
down below. Wait for an opportunity, then jump down and cut him. You can
then just run to the next bomb; It's between the building you were just on
the roof of and the next building to the north, on the ground. There's one
more enemy roaming the area, on the street to your left. You can kill him
if you like. The tenth and final bomb is in the upper-left corner of the
area, on the same street. Grab it to end the mission.

~= Mission 04: Gather Information =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Village
Requirements: Find the informer
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Move forward at the start, then wait at the base of the ramp in front of
you until the man at the top turns his back to you. Quickly roll up behind
him and make the kill, then jump onto the roof of the building. Crouch
walk to the right side until a man walks just below where you are perched.
Drop down and make the kill, then if necessary, drag and drop the body so
that it is next to the fence, where no one can see it. Now carefully look
around the back of the fence. There will be a man in the yard there, as
well as an archer walking around in the next yard. Wait until the archer
is out of site, and the man has his back turned to you. That is your cue;
Roll in and kill the man in the yard, then long jump to the second yard
and kill the one with the straw hat. From there, make your way towards the
right-edge of the yard the first man was in, and wait for a guy to walk
by, on the path below. When he does drop in and stealth kill him.

Make your way to the edge of this path, and look for a guy patrolling
down below. Long jump behind him, and take him out. Next, head back onto
the path that you leaped from, and long jump to the first building on
your left. From the roof of it, you should be able to spot another guard
walking around below. Wait for an opportunity to present itself, then
make the jump and kill him. Keep an eye on the ledge above, because a
woman should be walking by soon. Wait until she does, and then heads back
into the upper area of the village. When she does, climb back onto the
path, and from there onto the wooden fence surrounding the village area.
Head to the side of the village right of the entrance from the ramp, and
look for an archer standing on a ledge. Long jump for the kill when you
get a chance, but be careful of a trip wire in the grasses that will alert
him of your presence. With him out of the way look down below on the left.
You should see the tomikichi. Drop onto him for a stealth kill.

If you're aiming for the Ninja 5 rank and you've been spotted, there's a
fenced off building just past where the tomikichi was, that contains a few
guards. Stealth killing them will get you some points if you need them.
If not, you should have enough points now for the rank as it is. Make
your way back to the roof of the first building you climbed onto at the
bottom of the ramp, and from there long jump towards the next building to
the north, jumping to the top of it as well when you get closer. There may
be a guard or two walking around below. Drop down for the kills if you'd
like. To finish the mission just walk up to the woman in a straw hat who
is standing just past one of the buildings, in plain sight.

~= Mission 05: Cross the Bridge =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Bridge
Requirements: Reach the target point
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

In this mission you'll start on a roof. From it, long jump to the next
building in front of you, and from there all the way out of the compound
you are in, landing next to a tall white building. There's a man in the
street over there, so keep an eye on him. The goal is to roll up behind
him and land a stealth kill, but there's a woman walking around the area
as well. Make sure she isn't around before you do this. Drag the guy to the
side of the white building while in a choke hold, and then kill him. Another
guy should hear you; Immediately jump onto the wall next to you, and drop
down and kill this guy as he comes running. After doing all this, long jump
to the top of the white building from the wall, and keep an eye on the woman
walking around. When she turns her back, long jump across the street as
far as you can, and then head down the alley to the right of the building
she is next to. You'll find a man in a straw hat (do not confuse him for
being a tomikichi) there. Roll up behind him for a stealth kill.

From where this man is, climb onto the fence on your right. Then on top of
the fence, walk as far north as you can, along it, and remain there until
you see a man walk by some distance ahead of you. Wait until he turns
around, and then long jump as close to him as you can, roll in to close the
distance, and then take him out. There's another man nearby, next to some
stairs. Wait pressed against a wall until he gets as close to you as he is
going to get, then when he turns around you can kill him; Don't risk being
seen by being ambitious and going after him while he's at the stairs. Now
if you're feeling really bloody (or arrogant) there's a total of five guards
wandering in the field just past the fence you jumped from. If you take it
slowly and carefully you can get them all. Go for the one closest to the
fence first, and then the archer. All of the rest are far enough apart so
that it doesn't much matter the order you take them out in. You're reward
for taking them all out is easy access to the river's base, where you'll
find the tomikichi walking. You definitely want to kill him.

Once you have the tomikichi climb back up to the top part of the bridge,
and when you chance roll up behind the man guarding it and stealth kill him.
Then, climb up onto the gateway above the bridge and wait there for a moment.
Soon enough a guard will begin walking towards you from across the bridge.
Wait for him to stop, and then when he turns around long jump, roll, and
slice him. There's a cat on the bridge that will be moewing, but there will
be nobody close enough to hear it left. Walk across the bridge, and the
mission will end.

~= Mission 06: Punish the Greedy Merchant =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Mine Facility
Requirements: Assassinate Moichi Tanbaya
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

There's an enemy a bit in head of you that you may be tempted to kill
right away; But don't do it. Instead roll backwards, and stand there
watching for a moment. A second guard will walk up to where the first
guard is -- he would have seen you. Wait for him to turn around and walk
back down to the base of the hill, then roll up behind him for the kill.
By this time another man should be coming out from a tunnell on top of
the hill. Wait for him to head back to the tunnell, then take out the
first guy you saw before quickly rolling up to him for your third stealth
kill of the mission. With these guys gone, head into the tunnell making
your sway slowly up to the left. You should see a man standing a bit
ahead, at the top. Wait for him to turn around and then make the kill.
If he approaches you before you can do this, just roll down the hill a
bit until he shows you his back. He'll do it sooner or later. Just past
where you first saw him, you'll find another guard. Roll up behind him
for the kill, however, and you'll most likely be heard by an enemy. Do
it anyway, and just roll away though. An enemy will be coming from across
the small river of water in the cave. Wait until he gets across, then
long jump onto him and deliver a kill from mid-air.

There are a couple of more enemies in the cave that you can hunt down,
but it's not necessary. Head north of where you are to reach the outside
area, where you'll find more people to kill anyway -- plus doing this
brings you one step closer to your target. You'll find a man with a
lantern just walking around up ahead, on your left. He's easy to sneak
up on and kill. After doing this, hop onto the boxes in front of you, and
climb onto the top of the wooden fence that's there. There's a man
waiting on the other side. When he turns around, long jump onto him and
make the kill. If you'd be more comfortable rolling, that works too. Roll
to the other side of the yard's entrance, staying behind the fence, until
another guard passes just outside. As soon as you can, kill him, then
get back into the yard and climb onto the opposite fence that you entered
by. Walk towards the back of the house on this fence until you are next
to a man on the ground below. When you are drop in and take him out.

From there you should see a large house over to the right. Make your way
to the side of it. There's a man pacing back and forth behind the house.
When he turns his back just at the corner, that's your chance to get him.
Run all the way to the other side of the house, from behind it, and wait
up against the corner. Another guard will walk past you in a few moments.
Roll out to make a stealth kill. From there you'll be able to see the
tomikichi ahead, standing next to a fence. He's kind of out of it so you
can easily roll up to him and kill him. If you're feeling cautious, you
can just stay against the side of the house, roll up behind the fence
he's leaning against, and then crouch walk around and stab him. Either
way works. After getting the tomikichi, the only thing that remains is
your target -- he's inside the main building. Remove your sword, and press
X to open the door, then slowly roll to the side and if you are in alarm
status, hide behind the building. Once the door is open you'll be able
to see him. So take out your sword, and wait next to the door, looking in,
until he turns his back. When that happens roll in and assassinate him.
Boom, mission complete!

~= Mission 07: Steal the Matchlock Gun Designs =~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Castle
Requirements: Recapture the matchlock gun blueprints
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Start by heading up the stairs in front of you and then jumping onto the
fence to the left of the gate. There's a man standing on the ground on the
other side. Wait for him to turn his back, then drop, get behind him and
kill him. You can then cross the bridge and jump up to the wall on the left
side. From this spot you can see a man with a lantern walking around. Wait
until he's gone as far as he is going to to the right, and he stops. When
this happens long jump as close to him as you can, roll to close the distance
and then kill him. Immediately after doing this jump onto the wall on
your right, and hop down on the other side killing the guy that's standing
there doing nothing. From there, wait for the woman who's walking around on
the porch of the house in front of you to go inside. You can jump over the
wall to the right of the house to find the tomikichi on the path below. Kill
him, then get back up and wait for a second opening where the woman goes
inside the house. Quickly roll along the ground past the door she entered,
to the last door on the house. Inside that room you'll find a guard. Just
roll inside and stay behind the paper obstacle until he has his back turned,
then roll out and stealth kill him.

You'll next want to head to the backside of the house, jump to the wall
next to it, and make your way to the house's roof from there. Walk across
the top of the house until you get a clear view of a guard standing near
the gate that lead's to the castle. Get close to his left side, and when he
turns to face the right, long jump onto him and drop him as you land. After
doing this jump up onto the wall on your right, and when the guard on the
ground on the other side is not facing you, long jump close to him, roll in
and lay him out. Next, make your way towards the front of the house, but
don't approach the stairs yet. Make your way to the wall across the yard
from them, and hop up onto it. Soon, a ninja will come running by. Wait
until he starts walking, and has his back to you. That's your time to strike
and take him out. You can then climb back onto the wall that you hopped
down from, and from there drop in on and kill a man standing in the next
yard. If you want a few more kills, you can take a left at the stairs that
lead into the castle, and look for the entrance to another building. There
is a man marching back and forth inside, that you can get. And then for
one further, you can cross a bridge that extrends from this building to
another. It leads you right up behind a man that will be sitting down, nice
and defenseless. To get closer to your target, however, head up the
stairs at the base of the castle.

Immediately after reaching the top of the very first set of stairs, hop
onto the wall on your right, and begin crouch-walking forward along the
right side of the wall. There's a guard ahead that you want to drop behind
and stealth kill. There's another guard at the very top of the stairs.
Before you just kill him though, make sure no guard is looking from the
inside of the doorway. When it's all clear, kill him, but then quickly put
away your sword, and drag the guy that you've just killed's body away from
the doorway. You should then press agaisnt the left side of the door and
wait for a guard to begin walking by from the right. As soon as he's within
distance, roll in and kill him quickly. If you got him quickly enough, the
guard in the next room shouldn't have heard; if he does, just run down
the stairs and wait until the other has cooled off. When all's clear, roll
from the hallway, into the next room and kill the guard standing there,
when he faces his back towards you.

Make your way to the bottom of the stairs on the right side of the castle,
and look up for a man at the top. When he turns around, quickly roll up
the stairs to get behind him, then stealth kill him. Afterwards, make your
way around the corner slowly, and you'll see a ninja girl standing in the
next room. Roll up behind her for the kill as well. This will gain you
access to an item box, which is in fact, the matchlock gun design. Touch
it to finish the mission.

Location: Temple
Requirements: Assassinate Jukichi Otowa
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Just ahead of where you start out, you'll see a man in between a fenced
off area. Right at the start, roll forward, and grab him in a choke hold,
drag him back to the bottom of the hill behind you, and take him out
down there. You can then roll forward and kill the guy that walks by
the torches just ahead. From where he is, jump up to the wall to the
left of the big gate ahead. Run along this wall, turning around the
corner as far as you go. On the ground on the far end of the wall, is the
tomikichi of the mission. Drop behind him and cut him open, then jump
back onto the wall, and from there onto the roof of the building on your
right. There are a few men walking around in the court yard that you can
drop down on from there to stealth kill, if you're careful. One should be
close to the gate of the area (so it may be easier to come at him from
that direction) but one is real close to the left side of the building.
Definitely get him. There will be a man approaching the building on
the right too. You can get him when he has his back to you when he gets
to the stairs, but be careful because there are a few other guys walking
around the building too, and they might see you.

One of the men walking around the building is on the wooden platform. One
is on the grass. You should probably get onto the wall nearest the house,
and wait for them to separate. Then, take the guy on the grass first,
before jumping onto the wooden platform and carefully rolling up behind
the second guy. Stealth kill him as well. With both of these guys out
of the way, carefully wait in the back of the house, looking at the stone
steps on your right, until a man comes walking down them. Long jump behind
him when he reaches the bottom, and give him a stealth kill. Then head
up the stairs while crouch-walking. At the top, move forward and jump
onto the wall, and walk across the top of it until you reach the end. At
this point you should see a man below on your left. When he turns to face
the gate behind him, drop down and make the kill.

In the next yard, hop up onto the wall on your right. Walk along it until
it splits into two directions. Take the path to the right, and at the
end, drop down and kill the man that's standing there. There's a man
walking around on the left as well, and you need to be weary of him. But
he's an innocent so don't actually kill him. Instead, turn your interests
over to your right. A bit ahead there's a guard walking around. Wait for
him to stop, and turn around and as soon as he does that, begin rolling
until you get close enough to him to inflict a stealth kill. Further
around the back side of the house you'll find another guard that you can
take out in the very same manner. Keep running around the house further,
and youll eventually come to an entrance.

There will be one man waiting at the entrance, and another roaming the
hall. Wait until the roaming man walks away, and the guy guarding turns
his back on you. When he begins walking, long jump into the house, and
slash him open. Then quickly leave, and hide outside. Wait until the
other guy finds the body, and then wait out your alarm status. Once all
is clear, wait for the guard that just found the body to show his back
to you, and then take him out with a stealth kill as well. Now this only
leaves your assassination target left. He's in the room directly to the
left of your entrance. Just stay against the wall to the left of the
doorway to his room, keeping an eye on him until he begins walking away
from the doorway. Roll in and to the left when he does this, and get
behind him for the stealth kill. Mission complete.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Gambling Den
Requirements: Assassinate Tatsuichi Sgimizu
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Start by running forward and hopping onto the wall in front of you. Then
wait for the man walking around on the other side to approach the wall
and turn around before you hop down and kill him. From there climb onto
the wall ahead of you and use it as a stepping stone to reach the roof of
the house on your right. A guard will walk by along the right side of
this building. Wait for him to pass, drop behind him, and make the kill.
Quickly get back onto the roof though, because there's another guy walking
by the north side of the house as well. Dropping in on him from above
also works well. After taking out these guys, head to the opposite side of
the area and climb to the roof of one of those buildings. There's an
archer that will pass by between the two of them. Use the time-tested
method of dropping down behind him and making a stealth kill. That will
take care of the lower section of the village.

Climb onto the roof of the house to the right of the stairs, and look
ahead to find a man standing there. When he's not facing you, long jump
directly behind him and quickly kill him. Then stand back for a moment,
keeping an eye on the next set of stairs ahead. Wait for a man with a
straw hat on his back to ascend these stairs, and when he does long jump
over to them, roll behind him and cut him open. You can then climb onto
the roof of the house on the right, and drop down to kill a guy that
stops in front of it. If you do this, however, you'll probably be heard
by another guard. So high-tail it back to the roof and wait for things
to settle down. You can then kill your pursuer, before heading to the
left side around the enclosed compound. Around the first corner you'll
find a guy walking as if he has a rash that you can kill -- and a second
guy not much further past him. From there you can continue ALL the way
around the back of the compound, to the other side, to find the tomikichi.
Wait at the corner for a chance to roll up behind him, and when you see
that opening, take it.

You can hop the fence from where you kill the tomikichi and look for a
guard walking around in the back of the area that you can kill. There's
one in the front that you can get as well, but there's also a dog there.
And unless you have a shuriken or a blow dart, it's not worth trying to
stealth kill anywhere near a dog. So wait for him to approach the side
wall (preferably waiting from rooftop) before you make the kill. Then,
make your way towards the west side of the area, along the back wall. You
should see a guy strolling along against the wall there. Stay up against
the building where he can't see you until you get a chance to kill him.
Once you've done that, jump onto the wall and then from there onto the
roof. Make your way towards the small building connected to the main one
by a wooden platform. When no guards are outside, drop down, hack open
the doorway and roll in. You don't even have to kill the guy standing
there to finish the mission. Just get close to him.

You'll start off on the roof in this mission. Make your way to the front-
center of the building, and look down. You'll find a guy with a strange
straw-helmet on his head. Drop down on him for the kill, then roll away
into the grass on your left. Soon, a monk will come by and see the body.
Wait for him to run towards it, and immediately roll up behind him for a
stealth kill while he's panicking. From there jump onto the wall to the
left of where the monk came from, and watch the archer that's standing at
the gate in front of you. When he turns around long jump to him for the
kill. Just after going through the gateway, crouch walk to the edge of the
platform on your right. There will be a guard standing below. Roll off of
the platform, landing behind him, and take him down. Just to the right of
where he was, in an open area you'll see two more targets just asking to
be killed. One is to the right of a building over there, and one is in the
middle of the court yard. Take the ladder out first, and then go for the
guy near the building. They're far enough apart for this to be easy.

From the side of the building, make your way to the back, and you'll find
another guy to kill. By this time, however, a new guard may be entering
the area, and he'll see the body of the first guard you've killed. Simply
stay back where he can't see you until he gives up, and then go and take
him out with a stealth kill. Once all is good in the hood, make your way
to the back of the building once more and hop up onto the top of the wall
behind it. The tomikichi is on the other side. Drop down and kill him before
you get back onto the wall and from there jump to the roof of the building.
Watch for an archer to walk out from behind the larger building ahead.
When he turns around to head back to where he came from, long jump as close
to him as you can, then roll in for a stealth kill. Hop onto the wooden
platform surrounding the building, and make your way around to the other
side of it. There, wait for the woman walking around to leave, and roll
in and cut open the door. Inside you'll see a monk in a funny hat walking
around (actually he's trying to catch and molest a woman). Wait to the left
of the door, until he passes by, then roll in and cut him open for the
win. Mission over, good game.

him out too, before heading to the very back of the area, behind where
you started. There's a cliffside you can jump up on. Carefully roll along
this ledge, and you'll reach an archer. Long jump up right behind him
for the kill, then drop back down to the area below.

Head to where the tomikichi was from there, and jmup up to the ledge
above. Look carefully for a ninja girl walking around there. Roll around
the left side of the tree she is walking around to get behind, and take
her out with a stealth kill. From there, look over past the trees on your
left. You'll see a ninja standing near some boxes. If you have a blowdart,
now is the time to use it, since this part is tricky. If not, try to get
behind the tree closest to him by rolling whenever he is not looking, and
then with your last roll, get close enough to kill him. Once you kill him,
stand next to the boxes while crouching down. There, wait for the man on
the bridge to reach your side. Then when he turns around, take his ass
down.

Now keep a very, very close eye on the other side of the bridge. You're
looking for a ninja that's walking around. He'll go from the top level,
down the ramp, then back up the ramp, and off of your screen to the left.
Wait until he first turns reaches the bottom, and then begin rolling
across the bridge as fast as you can, turning left on the other side to
get to him before he sees you. Make the kill, and then jump up to the
top of the ledge in front of you. Your KI metere should be acting up,
and that will be due to a dog on the left side of the compound; Just don't
go over there. If you're in a bloody mood there are two guys on the right
side of this area that are easy to sneak up on; One, an archer, won't
even walk around. Watch out for trap holes in the area though, they are
an instant mission failure, and they really, really, freaking SUCK.

Anyway, climb up onto the wall to the left side of the camp's gate, and
watch below for an enemy walking around. When he isn't facing you, long
jump behind him, and roll up to him for the kill. After doing that, jump
up to the roof of the nearest building to you. Look down on the other
side, and you'll see a guard standing there. Long jump onto him and take
him out with a mid-air stealth kill. You can then just run through the
gateway in front of you to finish the mission. There's another guy's
life that you can take walking around the building on the right side of
the camp, but you should have more than enough points for a Ninja 5 rank
by now if you didn't get detected a bunch of times. If you did, then hell,
by all means take the guys life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Gambling Den
Requirements: Assassinate Tadaktasu Ito
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

At the very start of the mission you'll see a guard walking to the right
in front of you. Roll up behind him for a stealth kill, then continue
along to the end of the wall. Jump up on top of it from there, and you'll
see an archer walking by on the other side. Roll off of the wall, get
behind the archer, and kill him. From there jump up to the roof of the
building in front of you, with beads hanging off the roof. Peer over the
top down on the other side, but don't move to the other side of the roof.
There's a guard below that you won't to drop down behind to kill, but you
don't want him to spot you. From there, quickly climb onto the next
building in front of you -- and try not to get seen by the chicken. The
poor thing will go crazy. Drop down from the back side of the building,
and sneak up behind the man walking around down there. Stealth kill him,
and then jump up to the next "level" of the village, by climbing onto the
ledge in front of you.

Immediately climb onto the roof of the building closest to you, and look
for two men walking by on opposite sides of the fence below. Wait until
the one on the side closest to the stone wall gets close to you and turns
his back, and then long jump as close to him as you can. Close the gap
with a few rolls, and then take him out. From there, imemdiately retreat
back to the roof of the house you jumped from. This time keep your eyes
on the man that was walking around closest to the stairs, on the right.
Wait until he heads down the stairs, and then when he's about to head
back up them, drop down from the building, roll down to the base of the
stairs, and then get behind him for the stealth kill. Try to get him
quick so that the asshole standing on the next ledge above doesn't see
you.

If all is clear, head to the base of the stairs leading to the next level
above, and stay to the right of the against the wall. Watch for the archer
above to head past the stairs to the left. That's when you roll up the
stairs to get close enough to kill him. Next, climb up to the roof of the
house to the right of the stairs. You'll see a guard standing in place
from atop this roof. Wait for him to turn away, then long jump to him and
do a mid-air kill. With him out of the way you can easily sneak up on the
next guy on your right. Wait for him to turn around at the top of the
ramp he's on. Then when he begins to descend roll behind him and cut him.
You'll find your next target from there to the right of the wall that is
surrounding the main compound. Wait for him to reach the corner, then
take him out as he turns. There's a similar man that you can, and should
take out, on the opposite side of the compound.

After killing the second guy, jump onto the wall of the compound, and
from there onto the roof of the large building inside. You'll then have a
few people to drop down on and kill. One will be the mission's tomikichi,
who is standing in the north-west corner of the map. Kill him, then make
your way back to the roof. The next guy you can kill is an archer hanging
around near the wall of the house, to the left of the main entrance to
the compound. After doing this, roll across the roof, so that you are
above the wooden platform below. Drop down, and get to the side of the
building with a shadow on the screen door. Wait there until another guard
comes out onto the platform from the larger building. When he does, wait
for him to stop then quickly roll up behind him, and get back to the roof
as quickly as you can. The shadow inside the house isn't your target, and
more than likely a regular enemy heard you make the kill anyway, so its
not worth taking him out.

Once everything is calm down, you can use your vantage point to drop down
on a guard walking around to the left of the smaller building, and kill
him. There's a similar guy you can find walking around on the other side
of the campus. Kill him too. Once they're both out of the way, head into
the larger building from the wooden platform exit. There stay against the
right hand wall, heading into the first open room on your right. Approach
the screen door in this room, and then cut it open before quickly rolling
to the left. An enemy is inside, and he'll be scared by this, sending
you into yellow status, but you won't go into alarm. As he goes to check
the door, roll around to the left side of the room (which is completely
open) and get right behind him. Before he notices a thing, kill him. The
target is in the very next room from there. Cut open the screen doors to
your right, roll in and kill him as he sits there to finish the mission.

Location: Adminstration Offices
Requirements: Steal Ronin list
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Ahead of you at the start you'll see a guard. Wait near the wall, and a
man with a lantern will come out of the village area. Wait for him to go
back in before you make any attempt to take out the first guard. Once
lantern-guy is gone, roll behind the first guy for a stealth kill. Then
lift his body, and dump it in the bushes over to the right. You can then
wait on the wooden platform near the body until the man with the lantern
comes by again. This time when he turns to head back into the compound,
you can stealth kill him and then drop his body down next to the first
one. Just keep moving forward from there until you see two dumpsters on
your right. Stand behind them, out of sight, until another dude with a
lantern comes from ahead. Like always, stab him up the moment he turns his
back to you. Just keep moving until you reach a large gateway area. When
you are there, hop the fence leading into the compound, and immedaitely
kill the guard standing on the other side.

Now inside the walled area, head around to the left side of the building
in front of you, staying close to the wall. There's a man on the other
side that shouldn't prove too difficult to sneak up on and kill. You can
then cut open the screen door he was standing next to, and stand just to
the right of it. Soon enough a man will see his body from inside, and come
running. As soon as he reaches the door, bang: stealth kill! You can then
make your way down the hall, inside. Stay against the wall to the left,
and you'll come to a room with a guard in it. Wait until he begins walking
away, and then carefully roll into the room behind him for the kill. Move
carefully into the next hallway, and stealth kill the guard coming from
the left. You can then roll up to the back of the guard hiding the room
on the right, and kill him. There's a box on the floor of that room, and
approaching it will complete the mission for you.

If you're after the tomikichi, you should take him out before picking up
the item. He's inside the smaller building connected to the longer
building, in the bottom center of the map, inside the compound. He's in
a room all alone, and you'll have to cut open the door, being careful of
a woman on the wooden platform. You may wish to choke her out before going
after straw hat.

Roll to the back of the roof that you start on, and look down. You'll
see a man walking between the building and the wall. Drop down on him
and take him out, then grapple back onto the roof. This time make your
way to the top-right corner, and look down for a guard standing just past
a gate below. Long jump in his direction, then roll through the gate and
deliver a stealth kill. Next, wait at this gate way until a guard from
inside the compound walks towards you and then turns to the right. As
soon as he turns, roll behind him for a kill, and then, if you go into
alert status, just hang out past the gateway for a bit, until things cool
down, so that you remain undetected. Once all is clear, just head left
from the gate, along the outside of the compound. There is a man holding
a lantern just around the corner, and you can easily get a stealth kill
on him.

Follow along to the end of the path there, then grapple back onto the
wall, and jump to the roof of the nearest building (the same one that you
started on.) Now from there, look to the ground. If you have a shuriken
or a blowdart, take out the dog. If not, long jump to the man and kill
him with a mid-air stealth kill, and just try not to be seen by the dog.
Once he's out of the way, wait against the wall of the building in front
of you. The tomikichi is walking by on the left side of it. Wait for him
to turn around, and roll in for the stealth kill like always. Just past
the tomikichi, on the right, is an open entrance to the building. Wait
on the right side of it until a guard inside gets close. Then when he
motions to walk away, long jump inside and stab him. There, wait against
the corner of the right hand wall, so that you can see the next guard
around the corner. When he's not facing you quickly make the kill on him.

There's a room on the left with a guard inside that you can easily kill.
Do this, and continue along to the next room, where you'll find a screen
door. Cut it open, and quickly roll to the side. If no one has seen you,
wait for the guard to pass by the screen outside, and then roll out and
get him. From there, there's a few more people you can perform stealth
kills on in the yard: One further ahead of you, one walking behind the
houses against the wall beyond that, and an archer over on the right,
between the pond and the bushes. Once they're all gone, grapple to the
roof of the building to your front and left. There keep a very close eye
on the building next door. There are two targets to be watching. One left
of the building, and on the wooden platform. Wait for the one on the
wooden platform to be walking TOWARDS the screen, and then drop to the
ground, long jump behind him and make the kill. You can then go after
the other guy with less pressure on you. You target is the guy inside
the shack. Either open the door and run up behind him, or stab through
the screen when his shadow is close. It doesn't matter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Inner Mansion
Requirements: Assassinate Lady Miyabi
Failure Condition: Death of Main Character

Grapple onto the wall in front of you at the start, and from there long
jump down to the ninja girl standing by the building ahead. Stealth kill
her, and then head to the left to where there's a wooden gate. Jump onto
this gate and from there to the roof of the building on your left. Run
along the rooftop until you are close enough to the ninja girl below to
drop down on for a mid-air stealth kill. There's another woman to kill
in the first of the three doors on your left. You can open it, and roll
to the side so she doesn't see you, then roll in for the kill -- or you
could just ignore her completely if you like. Note that the tomikichi is
in the third door. You should definitely take him out, even if you don't
want to go after the woman in the first room.

Next, wait on the right side of the entrance to the main building in front
of you until a woman in purple approaches the side of the house. Wait for
her to turn around, then long jump into the building and kill her. Wait
up against the left-hand side of the hall, afterwards, until another
woman makes her way towards you. She'll get close, but don't freak out and
move; Stay put and she won't see you. When she turns around, drop her
with a stealth kill. To reach your next target, walk across the small
patch of stone ground (past the lantern) and get against the wall over
there. In the next room on your right, on the wooden floor, is another
woman. Wait for her to turn around, and then step onto the wooden floor,
and quickly roll in for the kill. From there, make your way back to the
lantern and take a right. Far ahead, you should see another woman in
purple walking on a wooden platform. Wait until she's walking away from
you, then roll to the base of the platform, long jump onto it, get real
close to her with another roll or two, then stick your sword into her.
You can then simply roll to the room next door when you see a woman
walk past the door. That's an easy kill.

Make your way to the next room from there, and you'll see a guard at the
entrance to the smaller hut. She will never move, or turn her back
completely. So if you have a blow dart, now is the time to use it, and
just take herout without effort. If not, it will be tricky, but it IS
possible to get close for a stealth kill. Wait until she's facing the
left of the door, then jump out of the building you are in, onto the
ground, and then from there immediately launch at her and get her before
you even land. It's hard, but possible. Alternately, try and simply sneak
around her -- there's a door on the back of the hut as well! The target
for assassination is inside. Like always, kill the target, and the
mission will end.

~= Mission 16: Pursuit of Echigoya =~

Location: Merchant District
Requirements: Follow Heisuke Echigoya
Failure Condition: Losing sight of target

Ah, I'll be honest. This level is a real bitch. Getting through it isn't
so bad -- just stick to roofs and follow the guy without being seen. But
to get a Ninja 5 rank? That takes some work. That's what this walkthrough
assumes you're going for. Amyway, start by rolling across the roof you are
on, and long jumping to the next. There make your way to the edge, and
look down at the man below. Wait for him to wave to another guy that's
passing by, then drop down behind him and stealth kill him. After doing
so, jump up to the roof of the next building (you can make it up by jumping
towards the left side.) Jump across these roofs, and on the other side
look for a man walking by. Long jump behind him for the kill, then quickly
head to the right. The timer should have appeared, but you have plenty of
time at this point to catch up. Just head over and jump to the roof of
the greenish building that Echigoya passes. Wait there until you see a
man come down the hill past Echigoya.

Drop down and kill this man, but be quick. Then quickly get back onto the
roof, long jump onto the fence, from there to the next building across the
yard, and from there, long jump AGAIN to the next building. This is the
trickiest part of the mission by far; you're time should be getting low,
and missing a ledge can quite possibly mean being seen by a woman below.
Assuming all is good, long jump over Echigoya's head, landing on the
building on the left. Roll down to the next roof below, and then take a
moment to breathe. Wait for Echigoya and another man to pass eachother in
the alley below. Once Echigoya passes him and takes a few steps, drop down
and take the guy out. Then -- and this is important -- drag the body to
the edge of the alley, in the direction that Echigoya left. If not he WILL
be seen. After doing this important task, jump back up to the roof on your
right, and from there, long jump back to the first roof you were on. A
man will pass by, giving you the perfect opportunity to drop down and
stealth kill him.

Now look up towards the end of the street, and you'll see Echigoya head to
the back of a wooden fence. Roll over to the opposite side of the fence,
and from it jump to the roof beyond. Crouch-walk to the opposite side of
the roof, and watch the ground below. Echigoya will pass by the mission's
tomikichi. Once he's done that and taken a few steps, drop and take out
the tomikichi, then run across the path and climb onto the roof of a building
on the other side. There, move along in the same direction as Echigoya, only
high above ground. Wait until another guard begins walking away from
Echigoya. Then, when he stops moving, drop in for the kill. You'll then
want to hightail it to the end of the walkway, and hop onto the wooden
fence there. Long jump from there onto the building on your left, and then
across the path below to another ahead. A man will be walking around on
the ground behind this building: An easy stealth kill.

At this time, Echigoya will begin running for no apparent reason. Just
hop onto the wall on your right, and from it, onto the next roof ahead and
from there to the next one. By now, you should have cought up with Echigoya
enough for the clock to have disappeared. Whatever you do, however, do not
drop to the ground below -- Echigoya will see you, and all of this will have
been for nothing. Just crouch-walk to the top-right corner of this roof, the
one closest to the gate Echigoya walked through -- and wait there. After about
thirty seconds Echigoya will finally leave, and the mission will be complete.

Mission 01: Head left once the mission starts, heading along the wall in
front of you to the left. Once you reach the corner, wait there until he
walks towards you, down the path on your left. Wait for him to turn his
back to you, and take him down.

Mission 02: Hop onto the ledge directly in front of you at the start of
the stage and follow along the path until you reach a few crates against
the compound wall, in a corner. The Tomikichi is in front of them.

Mission 03: Just after crossing the bridge, the tomikichi will be on your
left, pacing back and forth. Wait for him to turn aroudn and he's yours.

Mission 04: On the left side of the upper-village area, you'll find a
ledge with some leaves, and a trip wire on it. There should also be an
archer there. From this ledge, look down at the path far below, on the left.
You should see the tomikichi standing in place at the bottom. Drop ontop
of him for the stealth kill.

Mission 05: You'll find him walking around at the base of the river, on
the right side of the bridge.

Mission 06: He's leaning against a fence to the right of the building
that your target for assassination is in. He's not moving around much, so
there's a few ways to get to him, such as rolling up behind the fence, and
crouching walking to the corner.

Mission 07: From the building with the innocent woman walking around, hop
over the wall on your right. There's a path below, and the tomikichi is
walking back and forth on it. Wait for him to walk past you, then drop
down behind him, roll up to him, and make the kill.

Mission 08: Take a left at the gate to the first compound area, and head
all the way around to the side of the area. Keep going until you reach a
stone wall, and you'll find the tomikichi. It's probably best to approach
him from on top of the wall, however, so that he doesn't spot you and you
can easily make a stealth kill.

Mission 09: You'll find him walking around on the right side of the large
compground on the upper level of the area.

Mission 10: Across the yard from the house that the target "shameful monk"
is in, you'll find another building. Behind this building is a wall. Hop
the wall, and you'll find the tomikichi casually pacing back and forth on
the other side.

Mission 11: He's down the path on the right as soon as you start. You can
actually see him. He's not hidden at all.

Mission 12: He's inside the main compound, outside of the building. More
specifically, he's in the upper-left corner of the map. Climb over the wall
to get behind him, or dropping down on him from the roof for a mid-air kill
both work well.

Mission 13: He's inside the smaller building attached to the longer building
in the bottom center of the compound. Look at your map, and it will be clear
what building I refer to. Now there's a woman walking around the outside of
this building so you may want to choke her out first. You'll then want to
open the door and wait to the left of it until he turns around, before you
roll in and kill him.

Mission 14: You start out on the roof of a building, facing another building.
The tomikichi is walking back and forth on the ground, to the left of that
building.

Mission 15: After hopping the wooden fence on the left side of the front of
the area, you'll see three doors on your left, all leading into separate
rooms. The tomikichi is behind the door furthest to the north.

Mission 16: After passing the area where Echigoya passes another guy in an
alley, he'll loop around the building past a wooden fence. Hop onto this
fence, and then onto the roof of the nearest building. The tomikichi will
be walking by on the other side. Wait for Echigoya to pass him, then drop
down for the kill.

At the end of each mission you'll be given some special bonuses, each with
a designated point value, for meeting certain requirements. Some bonuses
contradict eachother, and it is apparent that some are better than others.
For example, you earn more points by stealth killing everyone than you do
for not killing anyone at all. The entire list of these bonuses is shown
below.

Boss Normal Kill .... Fight the target normally ........ 800 Points
All SK .............. Stealth kill all enemies ......... 400 Points
Total SK ............ Total Stealth Kill all enemies ... 800 Points**
No Kills ............ Do not kill anyone ............... 100 Points
Mission Failed ...... Fail the mission ................. 100 Points***

* I'm not sure how much damage you can take, but it is possible to get
this bonus even if you lose some.

** A total stealth kill, or TSK, is a stealth kill in which you hear your
enemy's heart beating before you kill them. One easy way to do this is to
hold them in a chokehold for a while before you actually kill them. Just
wait for the sound.

10) 100 Stealth Kills .................................. (30GP)
11) 300 Stealth Kills .................................. (30GP)
12) 500 Stealth Kills .................................. (30GP)
13) 700 Stealth Kills .................................. (40GP)
14) 1000 Stealth Kills ................................. (50GP)
-> These take a while to do, but they're pretty easy because enemies are
so numerous. If you try and go for the Rank 5s as you play, you will
probably have this by the time you finish the game on a single difficulty
mode. As for how to perform a stealth kill, get close behind an enemy
when your status is in the green, and without them detecting you. When you
are close enough a circle will appear: Orange or Red depending on how close
you are. Press the X button to grab them, and then X again to kill them.
There are also some other situations, such as jumping off a roof, and
pressing X just before you land on an opponent. I'm unsure whether or not
Blowdart kills count towards this count yet.

Rank Based Achievements
-----------------------
15) 10 Ninja 5 Ranks .................................. (20GP)
16) 30 Ninja 5 Ranks .................................. (30GP)
17) 50 Ninja 5 Ranks .................................. (30GP)
18) Ninja 5 All Easy Missions ......................... (30GP)
19) Ninja 5 All Normal Missions ....................... (40GP)
20) Ninja 5 All Hard Missions ......................... (50GP)
-> Getting a Ninja 5 Rank (the highest rank possible) is easier on some
stages than it is on others; To get it you need roughly 900 points. The
biggest way to get points is to perform stealth kills -- Especially on the
target of an assasination mission. You also get bonuses for not taking
damage or being spotted; You lose 1 point for each second in Alarm status
though, in addition to losing 80 points for each time you are spotted. So
try not to get spotted. You'll also lose a huge amount of points for
killing an innocent; So definitely don't do that. In some stages you can
afford to mess up; Some are stricter. With patience you should be able to
get the 10 and 30 Rank achievements over the course of a regular game. To
get the 50 Rank achievement will take some effort; but if its done on the
same difficulty you'll also pick up one of the difficulty achievements.
Once you have one, begin work on the others. Getting all three will take
many hours, but it's certainly doable.

Tomikichi Based Achievements
----------------------------
21) Killed 5 Tomikichi ................................ (20GP)
22) Killed 10 Tomikichi ............................... (20GP)
23) Killed 20 Tomikichi ............................... (30GP)
24) Killed 30 Tomikichi ............................... (30GP)
25) Killed 40 Tomikichi ............................... (40GP)
26) Killed 50 Tomikichi ............................... (50GP)
-> In each level there is a single Tomikichi -- an enemy that wears a
conical straw hat, but is NOT an archer. This adds up, over a course of
50 missions, to 50 Tomikichi. As you move along, try and keep track of
which you have, as the same Tomikichi can only count towards your total
once. To get all achievements you'll have to find one in each level and
kill him. Their locations are listed in that section of this guide.

Secret Mission Based Achievements
---------------------------------
27) Completed 1 Secret Mission ........................ (20GP)
28) Completed 2 Secret Mission ........................ (20GP)
29) Completed 3 Secret Mission ........................ (30GP)
30) Completed 4 Secret Mission ........................ (40GP)
31) Completed 5 Secret Mission ........................ (50GP)
-> There are five missions, when completed, that will offer you achievements.
These missions will only unlock when all missions prior to them have been
completed; They are numbered, but unless you have completed all necessary
missions, the count jumps right over them (For example you'll be able to
jump from mission 6 to 8.) Just play through all the missions, and you
will definitely pick up these 5 for an easy 160 points. The actual missions
    needed are 7, 15, 25, 35 and 44.
