ENCOUNTER/ COMPLETION ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHAECA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The achievements in this category are related to the main story. Each location represents a level that you need to engage in order to complete the game. HONG KONG MARKETPLACE COMPLETED (10) TAI O COMPLETED (10) THE MEGA RESTAURANT COMPLETED (15) ZAKAROV'S PENTHOUSE COMPLETED (15) CHICAGO HISTORY MUSEUM COMPLETED (20) SLUMS OF KOWLOON COMPLETED (20) WONG'S ESTATE COMPLETED (25) ------------------------------------- The easiest way to do the above is play through the entire campaign on casual on your first run through. The enemies and bosses on casual are pretty weak, and shouldn't prove much of a problem for most players. The difficulty level becomes higher at the later levels, but with some practice you should easily unlock all the above for a cool 115G. You can also use the casual playthrough as an exercise to familiarize with the maps, so that you know exactly where to go, and what to do, when you attempt the higher difficulty levels. GAME COMPLETED - CASUAL (40) GAME COMPLETED - NORMAL (50) GAME COMPLETED - HARD (60) GAME COMPLETED - HARD BOILED (70) --------------------------------- There are four difficulty levels in Stranglehold. The achievements for the different levels are not mutually exclusive. That means, if you happen to beat Hard Boiled on your first playthrough, the achievements for the rest of the difficulty levels will be unlocked as well. Similarly, if you only complete Hard on your first playthrough, the achievements for Normal and Casual will unlock. The differences between the difficulty levels are obvious. The enemies are stronger, and takes more hits to kill. Their firepower is also increased, so getting hit will punish you more on Hard Boiled than on Casual. Tequila bombs also take longer to fill, and the default number (that is, when you begin a level/ when you respawn after dying) of tequila bombs you have gets lesser. The default number of tequila bombs that you start with on the various levels are as follow. Casual - 3 Normal - 2 Hard - 1 Hard Boiled - 0 Due to the lack of bombs on the higher levels, taking cover plays an important role in keeping yourself alive while under heavy enemy fire. Get yourself familiarized with the various maps, and take note of where the cover points are. Also, find out where the paper cranes and health packs are situated in the levels, so that you can make a bee- line for them when you need them. I must also add that manual tequila time is the key to beating the harder levels. I cannot emphasize how important this is. Use it as often as you can. After you complete the game once, all the levels will be available for replay. You can choose to play any of them, in any difficulty and order. Therefore, if you somehow get majorly stuck on a map, leave it, and try another one. As long as you managed to get to a checkpoint, your progress for that particular map will be saved. As such, it's entirely possible to beat the final boss on Hard Boiled first, only to go back to (for example) Tai O to sink the four boats. There's also a glitch being mentioned on the GameFAQs forums from jeckelclow79. What happens here is he played through the game on Hard Boiled, up till the checkpoint when Dapang (fat bodyguard) jumps down from the balcony, He exited the game after this happens, and chose to "Continue Game". However, he selected "Normal", and proceeded to skin the bosses. After the credits, he chose to "Continue Game" again. This time, he selected "Hard Boiled", and the Hard Boiled achievement unlocks! So, if all else fail on Wong and Dapang, you know what to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. SKILLS ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHASKA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The achievements in this category require you to have some level of proficiency in the game. You will probably unlock some of them during your play through, but if you don't, here are ways to get them quickly. MASTER OF PRECISION AIM (25) ---------------------------- Load the level "Precision Aim" from chapter 1 on casual. You begin with plenty of tequila bombs, which allow you to perform the precision aim skill on the enemies ahead. There are also a couple of paper cranes lying around to refill the bombs. Once done, quickly head towards the next checkpoint, while precision aiming any enemy you see along the way (if tequila bombs permit). Once the game saves, exit and reload the level again. Repeat until the achievement unlocks. MASTER OF BARRAGE (25) ---------------------- Load a level that has many enemies on casual. The restaurant/ casino levels are good choices. When some enemies appear in front of you, unleash barrage on them. Do this a few times until the next checkpoint, and then reload the level again. Rinse and repeat till you get the achievement. MASTER OF SPIN ATTACK (25) -------------------------- Similar to the barrage achievement, the restaurant/ casino levels are obvious choices due to the large number of enemies avaiable in a some- what small, brightly-lit area. When the enemies build up, unleash a spin attack - hopefully it kills 3-5 people. Rinse and repeat. BARRAGE SPECIALIST (10) ----------------------- You need to use the barrage skill on the following weapons: - pistols - golden pistol - submachine gun - assault rifle - shotgun - rocket launcher - heavy machine gun Load the helicopter boss fight level on the last chapter (casual). Every weapon above can be found in the small houses here (yes, including the heavy machine gun). Ignore the chopper, and run to the various houses to pick up the weapons. Unleash barrage with each one - you don't even need to aim at the chopper. Once your tequila bombs expire, you can pick up some paper cranes around the map to refill, or simply let the chopper kill you (the game saves when you die). Retry same level and find another weapon that you've not used barrage on before. CHOW WOULD BE PROUD (15) ------------------------ Killing someone while swinging on a chandelier all but guarantees a five-star kill rating. Load the teahouse level (boss fight of chapter one) on casual, and start killing the guards here while swinging on the chandelier. It shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes to get 10 kills with a 5 star rating. You can also use this exercise to help achieve the "Death by Swing" achievement. RUTHLESS (30) ------------- I did this at the teahouse as well, just before taking on Kwong Fang. The number of enemies appearing here is sheer massive, and as long as you dive a lot while shooting at enemies, you should easily score three-four points per kill. Accumulating a streak of 50 points is simply a matter of trial and error. Or, you may want to load the first level "An Hour to Kill". Remember the part when you slide down the banister for the first time? Focus on shooting on objects above the enemies, so that you kill them in style. Towards the end of the staircase, dive towards the roll cart ahead. Use your left analog stick to control the direction of the roll cart, and then start shooting the enemies ahead. Once done, quickly slide up the banister ahead while shooting at objects above enemies' head to score more style points. If you do all of the above swiftly, you should hit a combo of over 50 points quite easily. Check out this YouTube video for how to do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqYSQlZlJcI NOBODY HAS THAT MUCH STYLE (60) ------------------------------- The 5,000 style points required is accumulative. If you play through the game two times, you should unlock this one. However, you can also speed up the process as you attempt some of the above stunts. UNTOUCHABLE (10) ---------------- The first stand-off sequence, in which you fight three goons, is the one that you need to unlock this one. Just ensure that you don't get hit by the incoming bullets as you kill them all, and you should be fine. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY THOSE (20) ----------------------------------- The guitar cases act as healing terminals for you on both the casino and restaurant levels. There's no health packs on these levels, so if you get seriously hurt, you may be tempted to use these cases to stay alive. Well, if you want this achievement, do it on casual at the restaurant itself. Go up the stairs, and place the two guitar cases on the second floor (anywhere will do). Do not ever go up there. Instead, crouch near the entrance, and wait patiently for the enemies to start swarming towards you. Use the assault rifle to kill them from distance, and the submachine gun to kill any that comes too close. Use tequila bomb to heal when health is low. You unlock the achievement at the subsequent checkpoint save. OLD SCHOOL (25) --------------- There's a well known glitch that allows you to get this 25G without even fighting any enemy. After you complete the game, press "back" to return to the main menu during the credits. Choose "Continue Game", and select any difficulty level. The final cut-scene in which Teko pushes Wong down the balcony loads, and you get the achievement just like that. Yay! THE KILLER (10) --------------- Fire 10,000 times? I got this on chapter three during my first play- through. I mean, I fired more than a million times over the course of the game, so what's 10,000? Easy 10G in my opinion. STAY DRY (10) ------------- Towards the end of the Slums of Kowloon level, you will reach an area with crumbling floor. The ground here has two colors - the white ones are solid ground, while the black one crumbles if you stay on them for too long. Simply get through this area without touching (or worst, touch them barely) the black parts, and you should be safe. At certain parts, you may have to dive across gaps to proceed. Also, found easy way to get this, thanks to The_Dark_Slay3r from the GameFAQs boards: ...load the checkpoint "Condemned" in chapter select and shoot-dodge to the corner where the Heavy Machine Gun is to grab the achievement. Sounds easy to me! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHAEVA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The achievements in this category could arguably be classified under "skills", but I list them separately anyway. DEADLY WORLD (25) ----------------- You will probably unlock this during your playthrough, but if you don't, the first chapter helps tremendously. Simply reload the levels, and start shooting at signboards, propane tanks, etc. to kill the enemies present. I believe that shooting objects to kill an enemy during stand-off also count as a kill for this achievement. ROLLING DEATH (25) ------------------ There are plenty of levels with roll carts around. Kill as many as you can while you are on one, hit the checkpoint, and reload. Remember that you can use the left analog stick to move the roll cart in your desired direction. Also, even when the roll cart is stationary, the kills count as long as your body is prowling on it. DEATH BY SWING (25) ------------------- First chapter teahouse, third chapter casino/ restaurant, etc. Plenty of places have chadeliers for your swinging delight. Like the roll cart achievement, load one, kill as many as you can, and then reload after the checkpoint. Both achievements require more persistence than skills. PALEONTOLOGIST (10) ------------------- I find the T-Rex an easier object to destroy. Shoot the bones to make them fall. You should also shoot/ throw grenades at its legs for max damage. Shouldn't be too difficult. MASSIVE D (20) -------------- You get this as you play through the game. Damages done to the world are accumulative. As with most of the other accumulative achievements, you can replay a level over and over again to get it. When attempting this, make sure you spend some time shooting at things around you. For example, if you are doing this at the casino, destroy all the jackpot machines around to cause more damages. Should be quite a straightforward one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. MULTIPLAYER ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHAMPA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There's only deathmatch and team deathmatch, making the multiplayer element of this game a little cranky. Still, you want the achievements right? TEA PARTY Party (15) JURASSIC BATTLE (15) MEGA JACKPOT (15) LOUNGE LIZARD (15) GERONIMO! (15) SEA FOOD (15) MOVIN' ON UP (15) -------------------- Find a friend to go online together. After creating a player match (ranked match doesn't work for this), set the private slots to two. Go to your dashboard and look for your friend's gamertag, and press X to "invite to game". Once both of you are in, press RT to alter the match details. Select a map, set the duration to one minute, and press start to continue. During the match, do whatever you want. One minute later, the match ends. Play again for nine more times and the achievement for the map that you have chosen will unlock. Now, either quit and let your friend do the same, or continue on for the rest of the maps. Remember to return the favor when you are done. Including loading times, it should take about three hours for both players to unlock all of the above. It does get bored after a while, so get your headsets ready to chat when the going gets tough. You may even want to read a book or something. WINNER TAKES ALL (20) BULLET BALLET (20) BE THE MASTER (20) --------------------- You can do this while doing the maps achievements. Set the duration to longer, and set kill limit to 20. These are to ensure that more kills can be registered. When the match begins, the person dealing the pain should start hunting for paper cranes to fill up tequila bombs. During the process, watch your tequila time meter fills up. Now, with fully loaded tequila bombs, use precision aim to kill the other party. This count as one tequila bombs kill. Once the player respawns, get him to run towards your location quickly so that you can continue to pile on the precision aims until your bombs are used up. Now, as the player respawns again, shoot him with a strong weapon like the shotgun once or twice. Then, activate tequila time to deliver the killer blow (the tequila time should be active for no more than two- three seconds). This ensures that your tequila meter can refill quickly. At the same time, it also earns you tequila bombs. From here on, alternate between precision aim and the two-normal-shots, one-tequila-time-shot sequence. It takes about five rounds of this to ensure that both parties get the desired achievements. If you do the above with both of you in the John Woo skin, you should unlock "Be the Master" as well. HARDBOILED KILLER (20) ---------------------- As it is, you need to perform 307 kills in a multiplayer environment. This is as tedious as it can be. Thankfully, the 100 kills you gather for "Winner Takes All" and "Bullet Ballet" count towards the final number. As with these two, one player should be a punching bag while the other pile on the pain. Use a map like the casino so that you can meet at the jackpot machines in the middle of the area quickly. You can also do this when doing the maps achievements. Just set a duration and kill limit that both of you are comfortable with. Don't bother keeping count though. It hurts your brain. And, if you're wondering why "307 kills"? Dchan explains that it's the kill count in Hard Boiled, the movie in which Tequila made his debut. Thanks for letting me know! Also, many thanks to the following for helping in all of the above online achievements: - Cloverian - Hawkboy199 KILLING SPREE (20) ONE GUN TO RULE THEM ALL (10) ----------------------------- You can get both of this in one single session. Try to join a two- players game to avoid confusion. Ideally, the match is more than one minute long. Invite the other player to chat, and inform him of your intention to get these achievements. If he's agreeable, just kill him five times, and then wait for the game to end. You will win the match, as well as get five kills without dying, which unlock both at one go. It's more difficult to return the favor though, since you can't invite a friend for ranked matches. You can ask the other party to host a new two-players game, and then select "Custom Match" to go through a list of available games. Try joining games that are for two players, and exit (sorry, it's the only way) if it isn't the player who has helped you earlier. It may take some time, but as long as his session is on, you should find him eventually. Remembering his ping when you joined during the first match helps as well. To increase the chances of someone helping you with this, offer to let him kill you first... and hope that he honors his word. :) Many thanks to Tangy Oraguton for helping in these two. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. MISCELLANEOUS ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHAMSA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- These are achievements that don't fall anywhere. MEET JOHN WOO (5) ----------------- At the main menu, select "Unlock Shop" to, er, unlock this. Joke achievement. FREEDOM! (10) IT'S ALL MINE (30) ------------------ This requires more persistent than anything. You can keep replaying any chapter until after the end checkpoint. You will earn money after that. Money you earn can be used to purchase skins and items from the Unlock Shop. The list of skins and items available as as follow. ---------------------------------------------- | | | MULTIPLAYER SKINS | | | |--------------------------------------------| | LOU THE PILOT | $50 | |--------------------------------------------| | JUNK CAPTAIN | $50 | |--------------------------------------------| | THUG | $75 | |--------------------------------------------| | UNDERBOSS | $75 | |--------------------------------------------| | I9 ASSASSIN | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | TEQUILA IN SWEATER/ JACKET | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | KWONG FANG | $200 | |--------------------------------------------| | LOK | $200 | |--------------------------------------------| | YUNG | $300 | |--------------------------------------------| | JERRY YING | $300 | |--------------------------------------------| | DAMON ZAKAROV | $400 | |--------------------------------------------| | VLAD ZAKAROV | $400 | |--------------------------------------------| | WONG | $500 | |--------------------------------------------| | TEQUILA IN SUIT | $600 | |--------------------------------------------| | JOHN WOO | $2,000 | |--------------------------------------------| Many thanks to Helen @ Silvernote.com for allowing me to load up my disk in their shop to find out the prices for the above skins. Her reward is 5G on her gamertag for my visit to the Unlock Shop. :) ---------------------------------------------- | | | ART GALLERY ITEMS | | | |--------------------------------------------| | HONG KONG MARKETPLACE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | TAI O | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | THE MEGA RESTAURANT | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | ZAKAROV'S PENTHOUSE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | CHICAGO HISTORY MUSEUM | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | SLUMS OF KOWLOON | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | WONG'S ESTATE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | ABANDONED LEVELS | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | CHARACTERS | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| ---------------------------------------------- | | | VIDEO GALLERY | | | |--------------------------------------------| | CHARACTER PROTOTYPES | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | LEVEL PROTOTYPE PACK 1 | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | LEVEL PROTOTYPE PACK 2 | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | LEVEL PROTOTYPE PACK 3 | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | STANDOFF PROMO | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | EARLY STANDOFF PREVIS | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | GAMEPLAY PREVIS | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | KILLER SIGN DEMO | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | PAPER CRANE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | FACIAL ANIMATION PROTOTYPE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| | ZIPLINE PROTOTYPE | $100 | |--------------------------------------------| ORIGAMI MASTER (35) ------------------- The number of paper cranes that you pick up is accumulative. A play- through typically brings in about 100+ cranes. You can then choose either to find more cranes while playing another difficulty level, or replay a level over and over again until you amass 250. If you choose the second option, you can consider using the whole of chapter one. This level is easy to get through, and has about 12 of those cranes lying around. There are other levels with more cranes, but you may end up spending more time because the later levels take longer to complete. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. DOWNLOADABLE CONTENTS ACHIEVEMENTS [ SHADLA ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In January '08, a downloadable maps pack is made available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for this game. It's ridiculously priced at 1,200 MS points, but I looked at the 250 additional gamerscore, and the possibility of getting them... and there was to be no return for me. All these achievements can be done in player matches, and you only need about half an hour to get them all with a boosting partner. BULLET PROOF (40) GOD OF GUNS (40) FISTICUFFS (10) DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY (20) ------------------------ You can get these 110 points in one short, five-minute session with a boosting partner. Create a player match in Naval Exercise, and set the kill count to five. Head straight to the hull of the nearby ship once you begin with your friend. Do not shoot him first. Instead, unleash the bullets on a nearby wall or something until your hands are bare. Now, get close to your friend and punch him to death. Fisticuffs and Diplomatic Immunity unlocked. When your friend respawn, get him to do the same thing to you so that he can unlock the above two achievements as well. Once you respawn, kill your friends four times without using any special moves. You can the five kills to win the game, and unlock Bullet Proof and God of Guns. Repeat the game and let your friend kill you five times without using Tequila Bombs to return the favor. BOOMTOWN (20) HAVING A BLAST (20) ASPLOSION (20) -------------------- Load the following maps: - Slums Courtyard - Slums Downpour - Fisherman's Cove Run around the area until you find some grenades. Take turns to unload them on each other to unlock these three. TESTIKILL (40) CASTAWAY (20) --------------- Load the Tai O Settlement map. You'll need to get your victim to stand on a rather stranded platform that has a Heavy Machine Gun on it. To reach there, get your friend to pass through a small hut to find a wooden walkway leading to the horizontal wire. Press LT to "slide" across to that platform. Now, go find a origami crane to build up one usable Tequila Bomb. From afar, do a Precision Aim and go for the crotch. Kill your friend this way to earn both achievements. You can now head towards that platform with the Heavy Machine Gun and let your friend do the same. DEATH FROM ABOVE (20) --------------------- Load the Kowloon Market map, and get your friend to stand below an air-conditioner unit. Shoot it until it falls onto your friend for an instant kill. Return the favor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.
