I use this strategy all of the time and it takes some patience to do. It doesn't matter if you are serving or not as it works both ways. So you make a return backspin shot to one side of the table and you repeatedly do this until you see that your opponent isn't moving towards the middle of the table and is staying to the side you are hitting it towards. Use the backspin shot because it is defensive and gets your opponent thinking that you are very conservative. So when the opponent doesn't cross that is when you load up and power a topspin shot to the opposite side that they are on and they will not expect it at all causing them to lose the point.
