Iron Jaw Gulch
When you have activated and crossed the bridge in 10,000 Gallon Hat, you will enter a large battle near a Life Elemental Gate. Defeat the enemies and use a Life Skylander to open the gate. Bounce on every platform inside to open the gate.
Motleyville
You will come across a dual Air/Water Elemental Gate when you progress through The Secret Way. Use a Swap Force character with these attributes (or two appropriate Skylanders, if you're playing co-op) to open the way. Then complete the course inside.
Twisty Tunnels
When you have defeated the Boom Bosses in Perilous Plateau you will be near an Air Elemental Gate. Use an Air Skylander to open the way, then clear the course inside.
Boney Islands

Fantasm Forest
After you have battled the Tech Gear Golem in Fantasm Village you will come across a Swap Zone. Use a character with the Rocket Ability to complete the course.
Kaos' Fortress
When you have escaped from the second Sheepshooter explosion go directly ahead to reach a Swap Zone. Use a character with the Climb ability to complete the course.
In addition to the Magic Gates from the first two games this edition of will introduce Dual Element Gates and Swap Force Zones.
Dual Element Gates:
These magic gates require two elements to pass through instead of one. You access them, you can either have two players (one of each required element) pass through, or you can use a single Swap Force character (top half one element and the bottom with the other element).
Swap Force Zones:
These deal with the different movement types, each Swap Force character has a bottom half that corresponds to one of these types and you will need to have the right bottom half. There are a total of 8 movement types (two Swap Force characters per movement type) which are: Teleport, Stealth, Climb, Speed, Spin, Dig, Rocket, and Jump.
If you do not want to spend a lot of money getting plenty of figures you should aim to have at least one Swap Force character of each movement type and element. The following list is an example of 16 that you could choose which will enable you to access ALL areas in the Story mode.
1. Hoot Loop (Magic/Teleport)
2. Trap Shadow (Magic/Stealth)
3. Wash Buckler (Water/Climb)
4. Freeze Blade (Water/Speed)
5. Rumble Rouser (Earth/Spin)
6. Doom Stone (Earth/Dig)
7. Blast Zone (Fire/Rocket)
8. Fire Kraken (Fire/Jump)
9. Magna Charge (Tech/Speed)
10. Spy Rise (Tech/Climb)
11. Night Shift (Undead/Teleport)
12. Rattle Shake (Undead/Jump)
13. Free Ranger (Air/Spin)
14. Boom Jet (Air/Rocket)
15. Stink Bomb (Life/Stealth)
16. Grilla Drilla (Life/Dig)
Skylanders Swap Force's Starter Pack:
This pack comes with 3-Sticker Sheets with Secret Codes, as well as 3 In-Game Upgrade RFID Trading Card.
Skylanders Swap Force's GameStop/EB Games/GAME Exclusive Dark Edition:
This pack comes with 5-Sticker Sheets with Secret Codes, as well as 5 In-Game Upgrade RFID Trading Card. The Dark Edition also comes with 5 Dark Skylanders Figures (Dark Wash Buckler, Dark Blast Zone, Dark Ninja Stealth Elf, Dark Mega Ram Spyro, and Dark Slobber Tooth). These Dark Skylanders learned to control the pure Darkness power that infected them in Kaos' secret experimentation lair.
The Dark Edition pre-order also comes with a bonus Polar Whirlwind.
Set the difficulty setting to 'Hard' or 'Nightmare' and select a bonus mission. Then, when the mission starts change the difficulty setting to 'Easy'. The clock time is longer on the more difficult settings and changing the setting to 'Easy' makes the level time remain longer which will make defeating the enemies easier. When the bonus mission has been completed the 'Time Bonus' will also be very high.
For the following trick to work you must have the Pop Thorn Tower of Time Adventure Pack magic item (Sky Diamond). The Sky Diamond will gain you a lot of money as long as the powerup lasts when it is used in conjunction with the Training Attack Dummies in Woodburrow. Check out the video below to see how the trick is performed. The money which you gain at the Power Pod can then be used to buy upgrades for ALL your Skylanders.

Stuck in Muddy Marsh Village - Wii |
I had the same problem. For me it was an enemy (a chompy I think) that was hidden behind some trees in the North East part of the village. I think it got stuck somewhere and the trees blocked it from view. If you don't have a bad guy there move around the village edges attacking. You'll kill something eventually and unlock the gate. |
