In sims 3, when you create 2 adult dogs, how long do you have to wait until you can gift them to someone?

To give a gift you have to dig up something (with a dog, with a cat you have to hunt something.) And go into your inventory and click on whatever insect/gem/rock/etc. You wish to gift and click "present to" and they have to be in the same household/area as you. Oh.... That's not what you asked. Just kidding. Well that's how to give someone a present. I wrote too much to delete that. To give pets away you have to befriend someone and ask them to move in! Instead of having them move in, move the friend back over to their household, and your pet too. Make sure the right side (your side) has only the people and pets you want. Unless you want to give someone a pet like a person you know through xbox live, that's far too difficult though.
