Question for The Sims 3 Pets

Ok, I want to be very clear here by saying I need this answer for the XBOX version not PC, they are very different. Only clarifying because a couple other sites I looked where people had asked this for xbox the answer was for PC.
I made 3 sims for my household two of them are married and for the third one she wants to be in a committed relationship, how do I add a sim to my current household for her? I tried making a new family but I only put one person in that family and then tried merging them together but couldn't figure that out either is there a way to do either of those?
