Question for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
I'm having trouble with the mages guild quest called (Vahtacin's Secret) I've made it to where I have to cast fire, frost, damage magica, but the statagy guide controdicts it self it tels me to cast fortify magica but here is the kicker of it the speels that must be casted have to be targited on the stones,,,,,,and fortify magica is a spell that targets yourself so if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Plz tell me the correct spells to cast.

You need to use the following spells - fire, frost, sever magicka and fortify magicka. To get it right you need to use the spells in the chest next to Denel for the last two (fortify and sever), these are both spells which act on others rather than yourself. You should then be able to complete the quest. Extra tip for you though, when you go down the steps and through the door in the piller, watch out for the wraiths!!!

Ok, first of all, the order I had to cast the spells in was Fire, Frost, Damage Magicka then Fortify, not Fortify then Damage. Second, you can't use a Fortify that casts on yourself, and you don't need one that works on target, use a "touch" Fortify Magicka spell, that's what I used. The Elf near the door to the pillar has a chest next to his table, open the chest and a fire, fortify and damage magicka scroll will be in there, the only one you need to get elsewhere is the frost spell. The Fortify Magicka scroll is casted on touch so go up next to the pillar and cast it. Remember- Fire, Frost, Damage M., Fortify M.
