How do I get past level 1(get to church before he kills me)?

You fun away from him and whenever it says to press a button wait for the little circle to get inside the the bigger gray circle and you have to do it four times before you win

Just run towards the church and press what ever button pops up to break away from his powers until you reach a cut-scene.

Despite the vague answers - this was actually a legit question. I'm having the same question. I've tried doing the above but it still doesn't help me get past the second botton press. I believe it's a glitch - and since my console is not connected to the internet, I cannot get any updates for this game. Stuck.

When you run the button prompt comes up don't press straight away watch the ring go towards the middle of the letter and then press button promted

Dont hit it strait away, you see the grey circle near the letter? Wait till it is inside that little grey circle and press the button

U have to run, but not only forward(W), keep it a bit right(W+D) at the beginning, after the first explosion run forward, and when you lose your player from sight move bit left (W+A), all the time hitting the asked directions up, down, left or right, when it appears in the centre of the screen.
