You mine it. Redstone ore is found in the bottom 16 layers of the map and is most common at layer 10 (for reference, bedrock is found only in layers 1-4). Redstone ore requires an iron or diamond pickaxe and drops 4-5 pieces of redstone dust when mined properly. Be cautious, there are many lava lakes at the same depth.

And, a reply to that answer, you HAVE to use an iron pickaxe crafted with 3 iron and 2 sticks. Like this: I I I

What I do is just look in caves and you will have MILLIONS of redstone, or you can just mine down and find redstone or caves with the ore
