Sponge can be used as decoration also can be used to make end featured worlds enjoy
Nothing for the PS3 version yet, in the PC version they are used to suck up water while placed down... The water will come back when they are picked up. I think it works on an area of 9 by 9, great for mining anything under water, or building under water.
Right now on xbox sponges do not have a real use except decoration. On PC minecraft they suck up water in a 5x5x5 area. The plan is flr 1.8 update in PC sponges have a change of spawning in underwater temples. The block will be slightly retextured and there will be a new block from it. A wet sponge a wet sponge will store the water and it will have a dripping animation. To get rid of the water just put the sponge in the furnace. This is just what will most likely happen in the 1.8 update. Hope it helped!
