Depending on how you have the controller settings setup, you get a lead off your base by pressing the Right Trigger once you get the lead you want you hold down said Trigger until the controller vibrates (about one second). Make sure your lead off is not to far out from your base and make sure you are aware of the situation with Fielders and Base Runners. Make sure you watch the Pitcher! Once the Pitcher starts his motion ( I have found any where from 3-10 seconds, best to count One-one thousand or One-Mississippi, for the Pitcher to start his motion to pitch.)release the Right Trigger and hopefully you timed it right. Do not slide in to base unless you have to, it slows you down. The only reason to slide in to base is to try to get under the tag, I have not had any success in the game to avoid the tag. On another note if the Batter manages to make contact with the ball and it grounds towards the base you are trying to steal, slide feet first in to the bag to try to disrupt the play if you are going to be tagged out. I know that is contradictory to what I said about sliding but it is an effective method to disrupt a potential Double or Triple Play. It can also injure your players too so be careful with it.
