How do I change to a small character

In story mode {if you get a small character to use}just go into him or her. In free play mode (if you unlocked any small characters} just click RT or LT to change into him or her.
P.S.
You can tell that they are small because they are shorter than the normal characters.
P.P.S. If this does not work your controller may be broken or you are questioning the wrong system.
