When he throws the purplish block at you, once it gets close enough, you'll see the wingardium leviosa circle of the same color appear. Most people just tell you to press the spell button when you see it, (depending on your system the button varies) but people still have trouble with it. That's because there's a trick to it. After trying many things myself and experimenting, the trick is to stand at the back opposite the troll slightly to the right. Then, when he throw it it will always be thrown to the spot you're standing. The trick is to move to the side and use the spell button to catch it rather than while it's coming straight at you, which will cause you damage. It worked on the first try that way for me after many deaths trying to stand in front of the block.
