Campaign Scoring

I don't really know what skulls to use or what diffulculty to put it on. So what skulls and diffulculty would you recommend.

The way in which that I completed the missons with competitive scoring is by having all the gold skulls on except for the first two which are Iron and Black eye, don't bother about putting the silver skulls on and do it on normal difficulty. This way worked for me doing it on my own, and another thing use your grenades as much as possible as the enemies are little bit harder to kill due to one of the skulls. This method should help you complete it on Competitive scoring and get the achievements.

Take legendary and all gold skulls and try not to die and you get much campain score I died some times but well got MUCH compain score (played first map and last :P

Skulls in Halo 3 only make the game harder. Its all up to your personal preference, but they don't really do anything for you. The silver ones add effects but the gold ones make it harder.
