Question for Grand Theft Auto 5

The mission numbers on the character radial wheel. Where are those missions?
When switching between characters, that radial wheel shows up and the number of available missions appears with them. My list will say 1 or 2 missions with some characters, but there is no visible mission marker on the map. Where should I look or what should I be doing?

It will probably random strangers/freaks, they count as missions as well I think

Strangers and Freaks count as Story Missions too, so look for the correct colour question mark to find the ones that the number is indicating you can do.
