I was never one who would "do" the missions in GTA games I just like to mess around, but do you get more than one safehouse?

Yes.
You get about 3 overall, but it depends on what descisions you make throughout the game, as you can get more.

For sure, homeboy. You should end up with about 3 or 4 safehouses, in different areas. SPOILER (You may not wish to read on)
If you kill Playboy X, later on the the game you recieve his safehouse.

You have to have completed story missions to progress and unlock the other safehouses.
