You need something to save the game to, whether that be memory cards, or a hard drive, that's up to you. It's worth it though, I tell you.

I think he might have meant to say xbox live and if so the answer is yes.

You will need a hard drive to save your game but you can use a memory card also because to save your game it require 1MB.

It's not actually required, although it would be preferred.
If you were to want to play on Xbox live, then yes you would need to have a hard drive.
Other than that, your fine with just a memory card.

You can play it as long as you have someway to save progress. A hard drive or a USB drive.
