Can't play multiplayer

When I go to Xbox live and try to pick a game mode all of the modes are dark grey and not white like they are locked but no matter what I do it won't let me select a game mode. Split screen and campaign both work perfectly.

If the master and authentication servers are offline this can happen. Check the network and server status report on the main site to see what the deal is. If they are NOT down and you are still having this issue chances are pretty good that what you actually need to do is reset the router on your home network to clear the PnP buffers.
