I am so stuck, I got to the part where I just built the pirate/trade ship and the inventor asks me to find three items including "googly eyes." The eyes are on an island in the middle that I can see but have no metal to make a bridge to. I tried carrying metal from the ice land but was not able to. Without the eyes I can't trade? Without trading for metals I can't make a bridge? What do I do?

You have to build a metal trader!
The best ting is to find one of the ininite rock mines. Have some Kelflings mine the rock and deliver it to the metal trader. Once the metal trader has converted the rock into metal, send that to the Architect and you can build hte bridge.
