Version 0.9 - Removed the walkthrough (it's unnecesary and wordy). Switched
to a FAQ and appendix style. PC version's exclusive equipment
to come next.
Version 0.4 - Only thing left is Chapters 2 and 3, and the Gems and
techniques. The format of the walkthrough was changed to
a precise and spoiler-free format. The next update will be
complete.
Version 0.3 - More things added. Many contributions sent to me. The
layout has been finalized. One the Appendix is all

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE [JEGG003]

Using the "page numbers" in the Table of Contents and your browser's Find
function (usually Ctrl+F), search for the page number of the section you
want to view and you will jump to that section.
Windows users, if you download this guide and it looks funky in Notepad, it
is because Notepad does not understand UNIX text format. Use WordPad,
MS Office Word or Open Office Writer instead.
This guide assumes you will explore around each area you enter, and talk
with each person you meet to obtain as much information about the storyline
that you'd like. Explore every cask and chest, talk to everyone and fight
every enemy at your own pace. I should not have to stop and tell you to look
around and check every chest at every event of the game.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS [JEGG100]

1. Can I have both Fortune's Favorite and the Golden Star/Tien's Justice?
A. No, you must choose between the sword or the staff, but you can switch
between them until Gujin is unavailable. You can, however, still buy the
artifact version of the weapon you did not select from Gujin later on.
2. How do I defeat Mother?
A. You cannot beat her conventionally. You must destroy the stone pillars
surrounding her lair and crush her.
3. How do I defeat the Emperor (Sun Hai)?
A. The Emperor changes his immunity frequently. You must change styles as
often as he does in battle to be able to hit him. Or, just use a
transformation style if you have the Chi.
4. How do I enable Monk Zeng and Tien's Justice in the LE version?
A. You must first load the bonus disc and choose the option to patch
the game with this content.
5. Is the Golden Star permenantly gone if I enable the LE bonus content?
A. Unfortunately, yes.
6. Can I have Monk Zen or Tien's Justice without the LE disc?
A. No. But you can borrow the bonus content disc from someone who has
the LE version and enable them on your regular edition.
9. Can I have both Chai Ka and Ya Zhen?
A. Only during Chapter 3 will both be available. In Chapter 4, you will
have to choose between them. I personally find Ya Zhen amusing during
camp events, and Chai Ka annoying with his old tongue speak. I rarely
ever use Wild FLower in battle anyway.
10. Is it possible to reach Level 30?
A. Yes but it takes a very long time. The best way to do this, even
though it is pretty slow, is to fly back and forth between cities
in the Dragonfly. You will gain experience based on your score on
each run. Other even slower methods are defeating the respawning
Lost Souls in the Necropolis or the infinite enemies that appear
if you use a wrong configuration at Lao's Furnace.
11. Is it possible to have all of the styles in the game?
A. No. Twice you will have to pick one of two options. Particularly, you
have to choose between Stone Immortal or Tempest, and between
Paralyzing Palm or Hidden Fist.
12. Is it possible to maximize all of the styles?
A. There is a max of 467 style points in the game (if you manage to reach
the Level 30 max). It takes 69 points to fully maximize a style, so
you will have to pick and choose. If you reach Level 30, then you will
only be able to maximize 6 styles fully. You will most likely only
be able to maximize four. If you'd like to spend your points wisely,
do not bother increasing Chi Damage for Support styles. I wouldn't
waste them on Chi Damage for Martial styles either, unless you're
playing on Grand Master mode.
13. How should I spend my style points?
A. I say you should maximize four styles. One martial, one weapon, one
support, and one of either a magic or a transformation. I reccomend
Storm Dragon or Hidden Fist for your support style. For the weapon,
I'd pick the long sword or Mirabelle. Pick only one of a magic or a
transformation as both use up your Chi. I suggest Red Minister, but
most people tend to like Jade Golem even though I think it's too slow.
Spend any extra points in other Martial or Weapon styles, but do not
bother with other Support styles as they basically all do the same
thing.
14. How can I master Jade Golem or Red Minister?
A. Red Minister arrives late in the game. You will have to save your style
points instead of spending them as your get them. Remember you do *not*
have to spend them as you get them. You can stockpile and save them
for later styles in the game. If you followed my advice above then you
should be able to level them up. Do not waste points in styles you do
not intend to use.
15. How many ending are in the games?
A. Three. See section [JEGG290] in the Appendix regarding them.
16. Can I see all three endings in one run through the game?
A. Yes. Just load your auto-save from before choosing what to do with
the body of the Water Dragon.
17. Does Open Palm, Closed Fist or being neutral affect the ending?
A. No, they only affect the rewards of some side-quests.
18. Does anything else influence the ending other than the main three?
A. Small text changes can be made, depending on if you sided with Chai
Ka or Ya Zhen, what you did with Death's Hand, how you dealt with
Sir Roderick and if you've finished Kang/Lao's Furnace side-quests
to completion.
19. Can I complete Zither's side-quest as a follower of Open Palm?
A. No. It will disappear from your journal after Chapter 4.
20. Do levels for Charm, Intuition or Intimidation really mean anything?
A. Yes. Your conversation skills can have a [Success] or [Failure]
during events that bring them up. Usually, this amounts to either
getting extra silver from humans, or making enemies run away (and
taking their experience points with them, which is bad). Do not
waste too much money with Gems/Techniques that affect these skills
especially if you want maximum experience points.
21. Which gems are the most useful?
A. Definitely the ones that increase Body, Mind and/or Spirit. Like
mentioned above, do not bother with conversation skill increases. Gems
that increase experience or silver from enemies do not give that much
extra.
22. Can I wear more than one Damage Shield gem?
A. No. There's one in the game for each alignment. You can, however, wear
the Celestial Aura gem with a Damage Shield gem if you're Open Palm.
23. How do I visit Lao's Furnace?
A. You need to actively talk with Kang at camp during Chapter 3 to enable
the chain of events which will bring you there. You only have one
chance to complete each Flyer mission that may appear during the talks
with Kang (you will be able to keep retrying if you die, but if you
choose to give up, it's gone for good if you refuse Kang's request to
try it again).
24. When does Hin Goo appear?
A. He will appear at camp during Chapter 3 if you completely finish off
all of the Lao's Furnace configurations and Flyer missions.
25. Once I close the dam, can I open it again to complete its missions?
A. No. Once the dam is shut, it's done. Missions such as the orphans'
are gone for good.
26. Once the Lotus Fortress falls, can I go back for items I missed?
A. No. Including the Configuration of the Rabbit, if you've missed them
before escaping the Lotus Fortress, they're gone for good.
27. Will Chai Ka/Ya Zhen, Sagacious Zu or Abbot Song ever return?
A. Unfortunately, when they leave your party, they're gone for good.
28. Do followers ever gain levels?
A. Their HP levels are proportional to yours. You can only increase Dawn
Star, Silk Fox and Black Whirlwind's weapons.
29. Where is the Blacksmith that upgrades the weapons?
A. He is behind a large wooden door with a big X on it, directly to the
left of the entrance to the Black Leopard School.
30. Weapons upgrade, but can Martial and Magic styles upgrade too?
A. Yes. They involve rewards from Lord Lao's Furnace. Like the weapon
upgrades, you will recieve a 25% bonus in damage. See section
[JEG252].
31. Is it possible to have a same-sex romance?
A. Yes, but only with Sky and Silk Fox. Dawn Star is seemingly exclusively
heterosexual... unless you go for the threesome. These are actually
very hard to pull off unless you know how to do it from the beginning.
See section [JEGG330].
32. Is it possible to have a three-way with Dawn Star and Silk Fox?
A. Yes. This is slightly easier than the same-sex relationship. See
section [JEGG330].
33. How could I afford one of Zin Bu's expensive (50000SP) techniques?
A. Simple. Save your money. Do not buy gems of negligible power,
especially conversation skill gems. In fact, I wouldn't buy most gems
at all; the best ones are found in chests or battle. Do not buy
techniques of negligible power either. Do not waste any money that
affect only Health, Chi or Focus. Only go for the ones that raise
Body, Mind or Spirit. Each point of Body is worth 10 points of Health,
for example. Do not buy any extra styles you will not use. You probably
shouldn't buy any styles, other than the weapon upgrades, since you
will most likely stick with your original martial style, original
magic style and original weapon style. All Support and Transformation
styles are found, except for Storm Dragon (which would be a good idea
to buy). If you're playing Grand Master mode, the Body +50 technique is
almost a necesity to beat the later bosses.

Note: You do not have to use these pre-made characters as-is. If you'd like
a character that is one type but looks like another, choose the
customize option and assign him/her the appropiate starting style and
distribute the starting points to the appropiate attribute. This is
the only way to get a Strong Female type.
Note: For example, if you want a Strong Female that looks like Wu, pick
Wu the Lotus Blossom, give her White Demon and assign her starting
attribute points to Body. If you want Furious Ming to be a Balance

Leaping Tiger: Medium speed, medium damage. Claws appear from your hands,
yet it is not considered a weapons style. Buy it from Zin
Bu or Darting Lynx.
Damage: 10HP(fast)/20HP(strong)
Legendary Strike: Medium-speed, medium damage. Classic punches and kicks,
balanced no-frills posture. Buy it from Zin Bu or Spear
Catches Leaves.
Damage: 10HP/30HP
Thousand Cuts: Fast speed, light hitting. You can hit your opponents so
fast, they may not have a chance to attack. Buy it from
Sweet Poison Lyn.
Damage: 7HP/32HP
White Demon: Slow speed, hard hitting. Use this style to pound your
opponents head-on with no regards of dodging. Buy it from
Zin Bu.
Damage: 20HP/30HP
Drunken Master: Slow speed, hardest hitting. Very slowly and clumsily fight
your way through enemies. Only available when drinking
Henpecked Hou's wine power-ups.
Damage: 30HP/60HP
Weapon Styles [JEGG222]

Long Sword: The basic, balanced weapon. With medium range and medium damage
it is a perfect weapon for beginners or those who rarely use
weapon styles. You get it at the beginning of the game, as a
choice between it or the staff/spade.
Types: Fortune's Favorite, Dragon Sword
Damage: 20HP/20HP
Staff: Basically, a staff. It has long range, but does not hit hard. It is
for those who decide to use weapons styles more than average. Your
first staff is given to you in the beginning of the game. It does
not appear in the LE version.
Types: Golden Star, Tien's Justice, Flawless
Damage: 10HP/15HP
Dual Axes: Very strong but slow, short range and lots of focus. You get it
if you allow Black Whirlwind to fight Kai Lan in your place at
the arena.
Types: Tang's Vengeance
Damage: 20HP/30HP
Dual Swords: Very stylish, quick and medium strength. You win them in the
Imperial Tournament if you can defeat Crimson Khana on your
first try without poisoning her, and a more powerful set if
you warn her about the plot to poison her.
Types: Eyes of the Dragon, Crimson Tears
Damage: 25HP/44HP
Mirabelle: The only long-range weapon in the game. This is a gun taken from
the British outlander you'll meet in Chapter 3. It is the most
powerful style in the game, but uses lots of focus and is slow. It
is a choice among others if you can defeat the British outlander.
Types: Mirabelle
Damage: 80HP/125HP
Improvised Weaponry: Sometimes you may find a piece of a broken object as a
weapon during combat. These weapons disappear when the
battle is over. They appear like power-up orbs,
similar to the wine power-ups that enable Drunken
Master.
Types: Hams, Table Legs
Damage: 15HP/20HP
Note: Weapon upgrades provide a 25% bonus in damage caused, and uses more
focus. All Style points applied carry over to the new weapon.
Magic Styles [JEGG223]

Ice Shard: Water-elemental magic. It can freeze enemies in place for a
short while. You are offered it as a choice between it and Dire
Flame from the Water Dragon Goddess in Chapter 1, or buy it
from Acoyltye Trainer Guang.
Damage: 10HP/0HP
Dire Flame: Fire-elemental magic. You can shoot fireballs and summon a fire
dragon with the area attack. You are offered it as a choice
between it and Ice Shard from the Water Dragon Goddess in
Chapter 1, or buy it from Kia Jong.
Damage: 10HP/30HP
Tempest: Wind-elemental magic. You can stun and damage foes with its wind

attacks are fire-elemental charged. Defeat a Horse Demon in
Heaven to obtain it.

Jade Golem: It is very large, very slow and hits the hardest of the
transformation styles. As a Golem you are immune to magic
and martial styles. Defeat a Jade Golem in the Lotus Fortress
to obtain it.

attacks drain both Health and Chi from enemies. It is also
immune to weapons and support styles. Defeat a Red Minister

Storm Dragon: Attacks from this style shocks and stuns enemies, including
most bosses. Damage is also dealt to shocked enemies over

Paralyzing Palm: Attacks and area attacks from this style can paralyze
enemies all around you. Obtain it by siding with Master
Radiant in Black Leopard School.
Hidden Fist: Attacks from this style will paralyze and disorient your

Ya Zhen [JEGG321]

A sort of hidden character in the game. If you wish to enable Ya Zhen, you
must keep talking with Wild Flower during Chapter 3 to advance a sub-plot
between demons trying to take over her body. You will be forced to side
with either Chai Ka or Ya Zhen. Keep inquiring about talking to the
demons inside her, and speak in favor for Chai Ka or Ya Zhen.
If you side with Chai Ka, you will recieve Open Palm points and Ya Zhen
will bother Wild Flower no more. The bottom-middle box in the Followers
select screen will remain blank for the rest of the game.
If you side with Ya Zhen, then you will recieve Closed-Fist points and Ya
Zhen will be available as a follower in the bottom-middle box on the
Followers select screen.
If Ya Zhen is enabled before Chapter 4, a fight between him and Chai Ka
will ensure. You will have to side with one of them. The one you fight
against will be permenantly grayed out and unavailable for the rest of
the game.
Death's Hand [JEGG322]
............................................................................
Another sorta hidden character who can join your party is Death's Hand. If
you'd like Death's Hand to join, you must succeed in defeating him at the
end of Chapter 6 with Sun Kin. You will have a choice of what to do with
Death's Hand's spirit.
If you release him, you'll gain Open Palm points and the Way of the Open
Fist gem.
If you keep him, you'll gain Closed-Fist points, the Way of the Closed Fist
gem, and Death's Hand as a follower. You other followers will be *very*
upset...

In the Imperial Arena, talk to the Dice Rolling gambling man Daoshen. If
you can manage to win 20 dice tosses in a row, he will explode.
Quick Sex Change

At Lao's Furnace, activate the Water Wheel, Cranking Cauldron and the
Clapper Chimney. Press the Tiger button. You will briefly change to a
member of the opposite sex.

Finish the game, and the title's screen's background will change to Dirge.
This will change back if you delete the auto-save at the final boss.
