Question for Ninja Gaiden

Ok, I'm on the 10'th chapter on ninja gaiden, and I want to know if there's an easy way to go back to the main menu.

Every time I get something wrong I just run blindly into enemy fire so they would kill me, and I would be able to get into the main menu / load screen.
How the hell do I do that??????

I heard about something you can do by pressing start + back to get into the main menu, but I
just can't get the hang of that goddamm thingie.
Is it a false cheat, or is it possible to perform.

Also if you have any other Solution, ANYTHING faster to load the game, instead of killing myself.

It does work, just hold both start and back buttons, first your inventory menu will come up but after 4 seconds or so you will go strait to the Main menu.
