Question for Halo: Combat Evolved

On AOTCR after the first brigade there is a shortcut to go down but I can't figure out how to make it down.

Will somebody please help me ?

Thank you, OK. Do the thing on Co-Op that gets you no covenant for the rest of the level, you must hurry! If you are quick and lucky enough, you can get a ride on the pelican and zoom down to the ground.

This is actualy pretty worthless Because you want someone to kill, right? And why would you do that with the fact that you, your pal and the marines are the only people in the level? Why would you want to kill them?
