Question for Halo: Combat Evolved

I am currently on mission objective "Locate Captain Keyes". When I reached Escape! I feel off the edge of one of the walk ways and seem to be walking in circles.

I am new to Halo and tried to use suggestions already posted but they seem to be for people who did not fall and managed to follow the path they where supposed to.

I am currently in the room with the busted door I entered earlier that you have to stand on the side of the pillar and jump to get on the extended landing.

What do I do to get out of here and to the door with the green symbols on the wall?
